Ribena & Bellyache? Manchester City are having a laugh!
How much did that pair cost, close to a round £50million between them? What an absolute joke! Ashton, Cole, Green, Ilunga, Upson, Parker, Behrami, Collins, Dyer, Boa-Morte and Neill were all bought for less than the cost of those two! Now, I'm not saying that they were all great signings, but watching City tonight, you have to wonder at the decision making. There was one lovely moment second half when Robinho did his dance, feet going this way and that over the ball, and Benjamin simply put out his leg and took away the ball. £34 million plus? I'm not sure the guy is worth any more than £5million personally. How many goals is it in 2009? One? And wasn't that for Brazil?
And as for Period Pains, yet again a booking for dissent and, to my mind, he was very lucky to then remain on the pitch after yet more bellyaching when claiming a penalty for a perfectly good tackle in the box on Ireland. £14million pounds for him? You couldn't write it! Shay Given kept City in the contest first half and the 3-1 score flattered them on the night. They may yet pull it round in the second leg but the smart money will be on Hamburg getting a goal, meaning City need three just to take it to penalties. I can't see that happening!
The best thing about tonight though was to see Jol looking so chuffed. Tottenham treated him appallingly and it is deliciously ironic that he is now favourite to be in the semifinal of the UEFA Cup and within touching distance of Champions League qualification with Hamburg. Let's hope he has learned his lesson and gets somebody to test the food before he lets his players tuck in on the eve of any showdown battle!
As for Mark Hughes, surely it is only a matter of time now before he is shown the door? Certain players are clearly not doing it for him, whilst others are being ignored illogically. Why wasn't Petrov brought on? If City don't want him, I'd love to see him at West Ham!

and there was me thinking that this was a west ham blog
seriously, cut the crap
Thing is though, we can move players like Robinho on without worrying about the money.
West Ham on the other hand can now start planning for next seasons relegation battle.
LOL! Nice to have a member of the cast of Shameless posting on here! Robinho has real talent but he's too much show and not enough go. Personally, I think we totally mugged them selling Bellend for 14m. I can't decide who we ripped off more, City with Bellend or Wimbledon for Big Fat Johnny Hartson for 7.5m back in 99'? As for Robinho, I don't think there is a person with an interest in football that doesn't think he is a posionous dressing room presence. I genuinely wouldnt want him at Upton Park. He has talent but no idea how to use it for the good of the TEAM and no class as a person.
Bellamy, Upson, Parker, Dyer; all good players with one thing in common, a terrible injury record. The only way Curbs was going to attract decent experienced players was to take a punt on those with baggage, and to be fair to him, three of the four have come off. The difference with Bellamy was that he is psychologically crippled as well. What an excellent piece of business to get £14million for him and judging by recent comments we have a happier dressing room now.
If Robinho had gone to Chelsea I think it much more likely that he would have been a success, to me it just bears testament to the greed and lack of grey matter in most footballers. Taking a world star and dropping him into a team of journeymen was a recipe for disaster. There's no doubt you can buy success in football, but it can't be done overnight however deep your pockets. Sustained success is in my opinion far more likely if the team is improved by buying better players than you have and raising the bar, buy by buy. A gradual improvement over a couple of years rather than a ridiculous "statement" purchase like Robinho.
Good points, except for the first one. To our City friend, yes you can keep "moving" them on without worrying about the money but that's been Tottenham's philosophy and they've gone backwards!
