As I have always maintained (to a chorus of derision from Hammers fans), the guy is not international class because of his vulnerability under crosses. Come the day come the man....then stop the man...then come again the man...and miss the ball, leaving the goal unattended.
That moment confirmed everything I have said and you can bet your life that Capello was writing the number 6 against Green's name in the minutes that followed. Is that contract agreed yet? If not, Zola should show Green the tape and ask, "And you're telling me THAT is worth more than £40k per week?"

West Ham fan or not I think you fail to concede the fact that he hadn't played a competetive international for over 2 years and he was playing behind a back four that started the game with a distict lack of confidence- after that he looked assured enough and I would have Greeno over James who has no excuses for the repeated errors across the years. Can't you just accept that he had a quiet night and did nothing particularly wrong. If Capello chooses not to pick him again whilst he is a goalkeeper then clearly we have a prick as an England manager. If he doesn't pick Green again, but picks Glen Johson after that howler then i will feel the same way as Ancelotti!
2307, the problem is, on another night, that goal would have stood. Now if that was the World Cup semifinal and the Germans or Italians were allowed to score because of Green's vulnerability under crosses, then that could be our chance gone. I am an England fan and am objective in my assessments. I would rather England win without any West Ham players in the team than lose including our players. Lee Vitout and others feel differently.
Im not sure he does look more vulnerable than any other keeper in the PL from crosses to be honest, how many goals did WHUFC concede from goalkeeper fumbles (Bolton at home excluded when he did have a self-confessed shocker excluded) last season? Not many I don't think, and to compound that there were certain games where we were being absolutely hammered by long balls/ direct balls/ set pieces (Blackburn/ Wigan/ Sunderland away) and stood resolute which was as much down to Greeno as anyone else. I just hope you give the boy credit if he keeps a clean sheet against Andorra and.....well just if he keeps another clean sheet to be honest, regardless of the opposition as at International level now every team is a potential bananna skin when Greece can win a European Championship!

Yeah we should sack Green now because he had one bad game for England which wasnt really that bad at all. Lets just let him go to Arsenal. This guy has probably on average been our best player over the past two seasons, who are we going to replace him with? You are seriously deluded if you dont rate him as a keeper. He rarely makes any mistakes at all.
I don't think he covered himself in glory with that goal. He IS poor on crosses, only the most blinkered West Ham fan would say otherwise. However, he is as deserving as any of the other contenders of a bit of a run. I hope Capello sticks with him against Andorra.
Those who remember my time at the org will know that I have been expressing concerns about Green for a looooooooooonnnnnngggggggg time now. Yes he is a great shot stopper but, sadly, he is poor under crosses and that off side goal illustrated it perfectly. Didn't Spain score a similar goal past him?
Green has improved this season and may continue to improve. It may have been down to nerves as some say but international keepers should be in control of their nerves.
The lack of objectivity is typical. Let's say it was a Tootatthem keeper under that cross - then it would have been the keeper's fault for sure!
The current crop of keepers is poor. Is that a reason to push Green's case? James makes errors but, all round, he remains the better keeper IMO. The errors are random and cannot be planned for. If I was an opposition manager, I would tell my team to test Green with as many high balls as possible - the target area is just outside the six yard box, hit deep and beyond him, exactly as in the Kazac game. (If it curls in afterwards, brilliant!)
I hope he plays against Andorra given my Mum is unavailable due to a recent hip injury and my wife doesn't want a game. Mind you, I do have some old rope that might like the match fee!
