Zola May Have To Go!

This is now getting desperate. I'm not just talking about the results, I'm talking about the tactics. Zola has had a fortnight to sort out how we should play but what does he do? He still sets up with Cole isolated up front. Result? Again we find ourselves struggling to create chances from open play, with our only goal coming from a keeper error at a corner.

Zola just will not see the error of his ways sadly. Our goal return last season was pathetic and without a rock solid defence would have seen us relegated. So what happens? Nothing I'm afraid, apart from selling Collins and so undermining the very defence that kept us up! We don't sign a goalscorer and Zola keeps persisting with a shape that the team can't cope with.

What is really infuriating is the way he then goes to plan B with knobs on when we fall behind. Five in midfield to start, go behind, so let's go to three in midfield as we chase the game. Maybe 4-4-2 might be a sensible compromise from the start? And maybe we could try chasing the game before we find ourselves behind. Crazy idea I know but winning from a position of being on level terms is easier than winning from a position of being a goal behind.

In Zola we trust? Trust is very dangerous as Neville Chamberlain can testify! What's on that piece of paper you are waving to the crowd Gianfranco? 4-3-3 and safety in our time? I don't think so somehow. "I quit" might be more appropriate in the circumstances. And can you add Nani's & Duxbury's name to it whilst you are about it?

HF,
This is what I mean about Zola, he's not ruthless enough. I wouldn't mind him staying but he needs to learn quick. When I saw today's line up I just could not believe he's gone with the same old same old that hasn't been working for the last x number of games. Hasn't he been watching that we've always played better after our substitutions and always finished games better than we started? Doesn't this suggest that the starting line up is wrong? Unbelievable. I dont know what Clarke is doing in all this.

I'm glad Behrami's back. We need him and Parker in midfield with two players on the wings who can go wide.

The reason we go 5 in midfield is to carry Noble. People are getting on Kovac's back but they haven't noticed Noble's performances the last few games.

Have to play 2 up front because it's football!!! This 4-3-3, 4-5-1 is all rubbish. Football is 4-4-2 and simple. If you have to cover the opposition player in a game then you do that but when you attack then it's 4-4-2.

Looks like James is gonna take Greens place for the Eng no.1 role.

Arsenal at home next. Lovely Jubbly

Towards the end of the game when things got really desperate and we were running out of time GZ threw in Hines, Stanislas and gave Franco 2-3 minutes! Why couldn't we start the game the way we finished??? !!!
Moreover, how many games do we need to lose before GZ realises that Faubert just CAN"T DEFEND! One on one with Tores, we lost the game; today, one on one with Beattie there was no question who will get to the ball first and score. I think that Faubert can be a useful player but certainly not defending! It is really very worrying when we can't win against Wigan, Stoke and Fulham. It doesn't look good. Our passing game is good but it is not enough. Even if we have to go down, I rather have that with the team scoring goals and not losing games every week from mistakes at the back. In football, you don't get any points just by passing the ball around in the middle of the field.

Two very valid opinions. There is a compromise position between Curbishley's long ball lumps and Zola's intricate passes. Somebody has to play a killer ball and somebody has to be moving into space to receive the pass. Look at Beckham on Wednesday night! What I would give to see him on loan at Upton Park! Come home David!

Saavakis,
Bit harsh on Faubert mate. He did try to pull out of today's tackle...well he did but too late. It happens.

As for the Liverpool game it was Tomkins that was skinned buy Torres. He hasn't learnt from day one I'm afraid when Yakuba did him when we played Everton....last season I think. But the trick Torres does - the drag to one side - is Torres' only trick and he does it all the time (against Chelsea, Benhaim). It's all you have to look for when you come up one on one with him. He will feign one way, drop the shoulder and drag the ball to his left, it is so obvious.

Did you see Ricardo Fuller out pace Tomkins today at the end of the match? Fuller! Jamaican yes but no Usain Bolt! I don't know why our youngsters are so slow. Tomkins has beefed up lately and needs to lose some muscle. He doesn't need to carry so much weight. He needs to get lighter so he can be faster on his tippy toes.

Anyone else noticed how unlucky we have been with many decisions this season? Beach balls to the Arsenal game boys, let's change our luck!

Season before Stani, Curbishley was still the manager when Yakubu did Tomkins.
