A perfectly rational dislike of Spurs!
Growing up in southern Ireland I was the only WestHam fan at my school. In fact I was the only WestHam fan I knew apart from my dad. Being from Cork, there has long been a strong history of support for ManU, Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton. They regularly came to Cork to play pre season games at Flower Lodge against Cork Celtic and Cork Hibs. This meant that my mates when I was a kid tended to support "bigger and more successful teams" than West Ham.
Yeah I got a lot of good natured mickey taking from my mates about how good their teams were but it was just that, good natured. When I would call round my friends house to watch football, their dads would see my West Ham jersey and say things like "WestHam always play good football" or talk about the great players we had produced. They respected the club and what it stood for.
I have followed West Ham all my life, I have travelled big distances to watch them play and as these trips are often at short notice, I have on many occasion stood amongst the home fans at away games and with the away supporters at Upton Park.
Of all the fans I have ever met and shared a conversation or a joke with, none of them have felt the need to try and tell me that their club is bigger than WestHam, none except Spurs fans.
Now when you're a kid it's natural to take an interest in the clubs your friends support, I would often watch their teams play as football was a pretty rare thing on television and West Ham didn't tend to figure much in the games that were shown. Over the years I would keep an eye out for the results of these teams. I never really cared if they won or not, unless the result affected West Ham in some way. Now I never knew a Spurs fan growing up so I never cared how they did.
I still don't. I have never checked to see how they have done, I have never watched a Spurs game unless it was against us. My first trip to Upton Park was New Year's Eve 1983 to watch West Ham beat spurs 4-1, so if anything I should have a sort of a soft spot for them as it was the perfect first trip to Upton Park.
For a long time as a football fan I couldn't care less about Spurs or their fans. I have never been to White Hart Lane; to begin with, this was if I was going to make a trip to London I would prefer to wait till I could go to see a home game. Now though I don't go as I refuse to contribute even the price of a ticket to their club. I have never met a Spurs fan who didn't start a conversation by telling me how much bigger their club was than West Ham. Personally I don't care, I love my club, I love what it stands for, I love its history, its tradition and its fans.
I know every football fan feels the same way about their club and I respect that but when the only way you can support your club is by trying to put others down it annoys me. Every summer its the same thing, we have to listen to idiotic Spurs fans logging on to Hammers sites to inform us that the latest bunch of overpriced mercenaries they have bought are better than any players we have. They feel obliged to tell us that this is the season they will crack the top 4. They boast about how their latest recruit from the manager of the month club is the one to mastermind their title push. Then withing a few months they are calling for the manager's head and slagging off their players as being useless.
Again I wouldn't care but through all of this they still want to tell us how they are a big club. Constantly bleating on and on about being a big club doesn't make you one though!
This isn't just directed at us, its at all clubs, at all fans. Any response from other fans is immediately called anti semitic or jealousy. As you have seen from previous threads, they are very quick to sink to racist comments themselves. I am a tolerant guy, I don't care what race, colour or creed a person is. To me a person is a person, you can agree with me or not, you can like me or not, I don't care. I have a very good life, a great family and fantastic friends. I don't hate people, I really don't, but over the years my dislike of Spurs fans has grown and like a bucket that slowly fills, eventually it overflowed into hatred. I actually don't like feeling like this, I think its counter productive to hate anyone. You end up wasting your energy on hating them. I am annoyed at myself for allowing myself be dragged to a point where I feel this way.
I remember some particularly insulting posts on WestHam forums when they signed Dos Santos last summer. Even by their own high standards, the smugness they displayed was incredible, hailing him the greatest young player in the world, a player only they were big enough to tempt away from Barcelona, a player who would lead their assault on the top 4, a player who would spark their title tilt. Where is he now? On loan at Ipswich! Spurs is a cesspit of a club, it sucks players in and discards them. The fans build them up to anyone who will listen and tears them down quicker than anyone else. Yes its frustrating when a player doesn't meet the standards you want for your club, yes every club has a player who the fans don't take to, but none with the regularity and ferocity of Spurs fans.
I am fed up with them infesting this blog (Blog Admin Interjection here! I welcome the contributions of the Tottenham fans!). The last two articles I submitted had nothing to do with Spurs in anyway shape or form yet their fans were on here looking for someway to make it about them. Its small man's syndrome, empty vessels make the most noise, any nuumber of penis deficiency jokes and even now, as I am writing this, I can hear the responses slagging me off from Spurs fans.
As always they will respond with typical smugness and arrogance, they will say its jealousy on my part but its not, I really don't care what happens to Spurs, they will say that they beat us twice this year and they did, but we lost to other teams, some of them twice, and I don't hate them or their fans. They will say they are a big club and I will point out they are not. The thing that bothers me most is that I cannot find a reason to not feel this way, things like Hillsborough makes me realise that football is only a game at the end of the day and its not worth a single human life. I hope, I truly hope, that this article brings out some of the decent Spurs fans, that it separates them from the vocal minority who have turned every other football fan against their club. I hope they find a voice to speak out, not retaliate. That may be a bit much given the way this article is written but please don't give me reasons to reinforce the way I am feeling; make me re-examine it, make me think again, make me see you as decent football fans. You cannot for even a moment fail to accept a large part of the responsibility of why other fans feel the way they do about you.
A West Ham fan wrote a book once called "An Irrational Hatred of Luton"; maybe I should have titled this "A perfectly rational hatred of Spurs".
By Celtic Hammer
you're an asshole. ex west ham fan
ReplyDeleteJust because Spurs are a bigger club mate!
ReplyDeleteWe are bigger than you though.
ReplyDelete;)
Well you obviously do care about Spurs then dontcha!
ReplyDeleteGet a grip and stop throwing all your toys out of your pram, I don't hear other fans from other clubs writing pathetic, sympathy inducing "articles".
Good day.
If you don't want spurs fans on your blog, you should stop writing articles that are headed with "Spurs" in them, cause they come up on the Tottenham NewsNow feed...
ReplyDeleteAlso, nothing like supporting your local club eh.
Sorry, couldn't be bothered to read it all - how do you find the time to write all that stuff? I've supported Spurs for more than 40 years. I never 'hated' West Ham and all my mates feel the same. If anything we're indifferent to you. At least you're a local club with historic roots and you bring through some local boys into the first team, unlike that lot from Woolwich...When it comes to hatred, it's West Ham against us. It's partly because our fan base overlaps in NE London and Essex but otherwise I suppose it's down to blogs like this one. We have good reason to hate Arsenal - it would take too long to go into that now, but what exactly have we ever done to you? As for racism, please, we don't need a lecture from fans who still chants songs about the gas chambers. I'm old enough to remember going to Upton Park in the 80s and seeing hundreds of your 'fans' doing Nazi salutes at us. Please go away and do something useful - perhaps you could turn your attention to the way tthe so-called 'top 4' stay as the top 4 by consistently getting marginal decisions going their way...
ReplyDeleteI think any thought process which groups together hundreds of thousands of people based on the opinions of a few particularly on the internet is fundamentally wrong. By all means if you come across a twat who happens to support spurs you can tell him he's a twat but do you see the irony in forming these preconceptions about another club based on the views of the vocal minority?
ReplyDeleteCheshunt, I agree 100% about the foul racism expressed by West Ham fans. However, the Pikey comments from Tottenham fans, whilst not so bad obviously, are also unacceptable.
ReplyDeleteTo the other Tottenham fans, I have no objection to you contributing here, some of your contributions are witty and intelligent. I have carried this post on behalf of Celtic Hammer, a contributor to the site.
u are a typical spammer, u obviously think about spurs all the time which boiles down to jelousy. Think of a story that consist of your own teams performances.
ReplyDeleteYou really are an embarrassment!
ReplyDeleteHammersfan you may be... but supporter? You think this is supporting West Ham.
Maybe.. just maybe, when Zola and the project start making some real headway, idiots like you who would rather take the piss all the time than discuss the football might f... off somewhere like millwall where you can spend the rest of your life sneering at someone else to make yourself feel better...
WHU always try to play the right sort of football and I do not dislike them at all and in fact the number of top England players that they produce makes me even like them if that is possible with another London team.
ReplyDeleteWe have very justifiable reasons to hate the gooners( and nothing to do with results either) while everybody and his dog hates chelski and dislikes MU and Lpool because of their arrogance.
So, to come up with an "I hate spurs" article like the above is a little pathetic IMHO as there is nothing that we have supposedly done to you that you would not have done to us if the positions were reversed.
You have an excellent coach now and a good nucleus for the future so start playing and stop whingeing ( unless you too, cop a referee OT special :))
What a sad little man who follows a sad little club clinging on to a superior and far more successful neighbour in the hope that just a little of the attention and interest in Spurs may come your way.
ReplyDeleteBelieve me, very few Spurs fans consider west ham as a threat or genuine rival as history shows us. You are just a little club that we usually beat comfortably.
Still, at least it makes a change from the usual racist scum comments that west ham fans usually come out with.
PS. Given the small size of West Ham and it's lack of importance surely your real local rivals are Millwall or Charlton?
spuds r the worst its true
ReplyDeletespurs r obviously not a big club
ReplyDeleteTottenham's rivals are woolwich and then chelsea...You dont see many West Ham fans in london so there's never really been any banter between the North London giants& your club.West Ham are a decent little club, with a loyal little fanbase& I have no problem with them...Zola seems to be doing a good job,so dont feel to down!
ReplyDeleteHypocritical and stereotypical. P.S what history?
ReplyDeleteWell said m8. spurs are arrogant. i agree with u 100 percent, they should get a grip. Let them win the premiership or somekind of european trophy.
ReplyDeleteWhats up with West Ham's hatred towards Spurs? If we dont care about west ham,why do you try and create a rivalry that doesn't exist? I understand both clubs have a hooligan element, but as a normal supporter I dont get. If Millwall ever got into the top flight do you think you would focus your attention to them?
ReplyDeleteSo true, mate. Tottenham are a scummy club through-and-through. As a neutral in this, I am always left wondering how any club can set themselves up to be so hated.
ReplyDeleteI think of all the teams in the league, Spurs must be top of a lot of people's lists to be relegated, if it just came down to choice. They'd be on there with Hull, Newcastle, and any team managed by Roy Keane.
The only saving grace is that the very thing that holds them back from actually becoming a big club is their wholly unjustified billy big-time attitude.
Why would us spurs fans hate the spammers when they are part of our history and a good feeder club kanoute defoe carrick the traitor peters and some of your tasty youth comming through .At the moment we are the same size as your club with more money but when we move into our silver nike stadium or the baby emirates thtas what the arsoles are saying we will be a big club and then you can hate us even more tata for now .coys
ReplyDeleteNice fishing trip...looks like you caught quite a few.....
ReplyDeleteAnon said:"Let them win the premiership or somekind of european troph".
ReplyDeleteWill 2 UEFAs, 1 CWC and a CL semi do?...In terms of winning in Europe we are not far behind( or are we ahead of?) the gooners although I sadly admit that it has been a while"
Re the EPL...YOU win the EPL or ANYONE other than the arrogant four win it and it be like a perfumed breeze moving through a garbage tip.Let's all break the cash(see glass) ceiling.
Can anybody tell me the last day that the Spuds were above West Ham in the league.....
ReplyDeleteI will give you a clue...more than two years ago......
There seems to be two sort of people here: those who can only write several lines...often abusive. without having brain overheating and those who actually try to communicate.
ReplyDeleteFFS all you morons whether THFC WHU or whoever go away and play with something that you know
i agree with u 100 percent west ham fan spur fans r definitely the most arrogant fans in England always talking their chances of a top 4 finish and their new recruits while belittling the other big teams in London like Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham, Fulham, etc who are all big in every way in history, tradition, etc. Not only them but other clubs like Man U and Liverpool. spurs fans never show respect to any other club or fan which is why they are hated by many fans supporting clubs in England.
ReplyDeleteOh %$$#!!!! (censored) I just placed myself in the first group
ReplyDeleteAhhhhhhhhh!*jumps out window*
To be honest although I could never get myself worked up over west ham,I enjoy the fact they hate us as it always creates a great atmosphere both home& away...At least there fans make a lot more noise then the gooner scum!

And I'll give you another clue...2 weeks time!!!
I live an area where the people are predominantly Spurs fans and most of my family and friends are Spurs fans. We are nearly all pessimistic! I honestly don't know where you get this nonsense from. If it's from people on these blogs then that's your problem; don't let it bother you as it's not real life.
ReplyDeleteOne incorrect comment here from you hammer guys is just how THFC are hated by everyone.
ReplyDeleteApart from the gooners, Chelski and you none of us come across much hate at all from other supporters, in fact most neutrals seem to support us, that is if you actually go up and talk to them.
However if we play you or Fulham the support seems about equal amongst neutrals so your hatred seems mostly hammered in,
I have yet to see a single reply that I didnt expect. It boggles the mind how peple can read the article and still respond the way I said they would.
ReplyDeleteAll you are doing with your post is reaffirming everything I have said about you and your club.
Re: Europe: I think that al casha(MC) are on a roll now and with their GD will probably beat Fulham to 7th. This is good for both THFC and WHU as we both need to strengthen our squads and fuse a real team/squad sufficient to actually push through the glass ceiling. Unless you have a squad with 2 teams who can survive an EPL match europe is potentially EPL suicide however attractive it may seem.
ReplyDeleteCelticHammer said.....
ReplyDeleteSorry mate that is so much bullcrap.
Actually read all of the posts here before you so grossly generalise. Amongst the debris there are some decent posts or are you so bigoted that you cannot see them?
look like the article hooked a few spuds good onya
ReplyDeleteSeems pretty logical to suggest the spuds are widely hated. To teams like Newcastle, Villa, Everton, etc, you know real BIG clubs, they hate the spuds due to the excessive and completely unrealistic attitude of their club and deluded fans. Why they are sooooo arrogant when they havent done anything of note for over 20 years or come close to winning the league for 50 years is beyond me???
ReplyDeleteThe fact they spubnk lewis millions every season and STILL do nothing is hilarious! But, you can bet, come the close season, they will once again be just about to break into the top 4.... yeah right.
Spuds are without doubt the most despised club in London and probably the country...
Who do would you support if Celtic played West Ham?
ReplyDeleteI think he means Celtic (pronounced Keltic).... Gaellic shit
ReplyDeleteRational replies to moronic sh*tstirrers are obviously a waste of time. I know that you lot think that it is funny but it realy does place you yourselves in a bad light. Are you that bored? Go watch some footie or, heaven forbid, read a book.
ReplyDeleteBanter is ok but lace it with words like "hate" and you are typing yourself and badly so. I would be ashamed of myself if i said anything like that.
I wont waste anymore time here.
Spurs are shit
ReplyDeleteSo a few spurs fans told you that west ham were a small club-big deal! You would have known that already surely! Tottenham are getting a 58'000 stadium soon& if you dont let it go your feelings of jealousey will only get worse.
ReplyDeleteAre west ham bigger then millwall?
ReplyDelete"So a few spurs fans told you that west ham were a small club-big deal! You would have known that already surely!"
ReplyDeleteFeckin' eejits. The author's complaining about the fact that you Spuds always claim to be a bigger club than them. In fact, Hammers have more history, more fans, more neutrals who like them, and more integrity. Oh, and a better stadium than the giant ashtray + dole hostel complex that you're planning to build.
"if you dont let it go your feelings of jealousey will only get worse"
Well, you lot should know.
Still not a single post admitting that yur fans have a habit of running their mouth and proclaiming that you are a big club. How come no one has mention dos santos? Can you now not even bring yourselves to say his name? If you think he is the last signing thats going to make you put your foot in your mouth just wait till 'Arry boy gets a decent run at your cheque book!
ReplyDeleteAs a Leighton Orient fan everything you wrote about the yids is what i feel about west ham fans! You always view yourself as a far bigger club then you really are...Orient are the true club in east london!
ReplyDeleteOh and Spike cheers for saving me the trouble of explaining the name again.
ReplyDeleteLight the blue fuse and step back. Not sure you should return to the firework for a while Celtic!
ReplyDeleteAnon 1703, you've fallen into the trap 100%. As Celtic keeps saying, it isn't about size, that's just the Spurs obsession! You must know, your wife has reassured you thousands of times that size doesn't matter. As she says, they only sell the Rabbit in huge size and it is not the size, but the frequency of the vibrations that enables it to pleasure her more than you do! COYrabbits!
Orient fan I have always had soft spot for your club as my dad had trials there when he was 17. He was on holidays staying with my aunt (his older sister) and was playing ball in a park when a scout spotted him. They offered him terms but his parents made him come back to Ireland and learn a trade. When he moved back to London in his early 20s he used to go watch Orient when they were at home and WestHam were away. I think the only other club he would have been happy for me to support would have been The Orient but when I was 4 I saw WestHam win the FA cup final so I thought I would sign on for the glory............... that worked a treat!
ReplyDeleteof course some spurs fans give it then big'un. and over the last few seasons some have maybe taken it a little too far with all the media inspired top 4 talk.
ReplyDeleteBUT, you guys are just as bad. the amount of shit i hear coming from west ham fan's mouths is unreal. but it doesn't annoy me because i expect that from every fan of every club that isn't spurs.
oh and don't claim you don't care about spurs when you just wrote an essay on the subject. we know you hate us just like we hate arsenal. and don't think that they don't give us the whole 'we're a bigger club' thing all the effing time! but we just get on with it.
Oh i see...you believe west ham are a bigger club then tottenham! Well fair enough mate thats your opinion, maybe you are right..;} I'll be honest though I never knew you had more fans then Tottenham, you must be a very big club indeed.
ReplyDeleteessexyid read the responses from your own fans and see if it helps you put this article in context
ReplyDeleteCelticspammer. Nobody has posted what you're fishing for because your 'article', I use that term loosely, is a load of crap. All spammers do is go on about spurs because we, as a club, are everything west ham aspire to be. We really don't care enough about you to bother. Move on. We're all very bored with you lot continually regurgitating the same old shit.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteWhat I cannot understand about you hammer guys is just why how we feel about our club has anything to do with you?
ReplyDeleteThe sort of antiSpurs sniping that is happening here now is typical and the very reason why THFC supportrs reply with exactly the same sort of comments that you always cry about.
If you were civil to start with no one would mention the 11th richest club in the world which alot of us find to be a joke and especially so in view of our poor league performances ovr the last decade or so.
All of this guff about despising and hating sems to only come from you lot and you cannot even see how sick and how foolish it makes you all seem.
I have always had some respect for WHU as a club but with supporters like you lot here Millwall might be a better choice for all you hatemongers.
Yeah as a spurs fan Im happy to say we are a big club...so what? Jermain Defoe would probably agree(as would martin peters& the list goes on.....}if thats the reason you hate tottenham it's a stupid one! Dos Santos? Very skillfull young player, not sure what 'Arry's plans are for him...he could wind up playing for you lot,so carefull what you say about him! Good luck in the uefa qualification!
ReplyDeleteanon 17.25 you're close to gettin what I am saying but my point is why do spurs fans feel the need to tell other fans how "big" their club is!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why these spurs fans are biting it an obvious wind up designed to get you reacting the way you are. I'm a Derby fan and can assure you all, west ham are just as bad now. stop giving this **** the satisfaction of knowing he's wound you up. (Derby fan, I know the c word is inside your club name CoUNTy, but I do not allow it on here. I have left your post intact apart from that!)
ReplyDelete"we know you hate us just like we hate arsenal. and don't think that they don't give us the whole 'we're a bigger club' thing all the effing time! but we just get on with it."
ReplyDeleteArsenal fan here, linked to this page for the laughs. Just to put the record straight, your lot keep trying to tell us that you're a bigger, more successful club.
Face it, the Hackney Crackheads are scum from top to bottom.
DerbyFan and Mackay lover no doubt:) you cannot leave a brain injured dog by the road. You either try to heal it or you shoot it.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I dont have a gun so one must try to heal the animals and make them see reason. A total waste of time yes but you receive such a feeling of embarrassing superioritythats they give you while they indulge in their little fantasies that it is hard to stop trying :D
Oh, and one more thing: if Tottenham played Millwall, the Lions would be the neutral's choice. That's how much people dislike you.
ReplyDeleteLet's just all play along and pretend west ham are our rivals...I know it's the first fixture I look for at the stars of the season..;} They are a very big club you know,a very very big club!
ReplyDeleteArsenal fan..I cant remember, Just how many UEFAs and CWCs and CL cups have you won in Europe?
ReplyDeleteSerious question as I am not certain.
I agree totally that yr league record is far better than ours but we could handle this until wenger came along and taught you to actually play football our way ( and the WHU way also)instead of good old "hoof the ball" with arms aloft which even you must admit was embarrassingly sterile to watch.
tottenham fans have always been the same,, i remember when they had barmby anderton and co, they always said that the nxt season they will win the league, lol
ReplyDeletethey are trying to keep up with their neighbours, who are the real thing,, even getting a new ground the same size and shape just differnt colour.
61 NEVER AGAIN !!! (THE DOUBLE)
West Ham are massive...i remember we beat tottenham a few years back! We won the world cup in 66...and we won the F.A cup in 1980,Paul Allen was a great player-that proves how massive we are...and spurs have no fans in Cork, not even Roy Keane support them!
ReplyDeleteawwww I8 spurs ...surely you can do better than than that...hmmm a gooner..apologies as i know you cannot...my sympathy
ReplyDeletePMSL
ReplyDeleteAlways fun to see the reactions of Wet Spam fans who dish it out but can't take it
P.S. West Ham 0 Spurs 2 Spurs 1 West Ham 0
That gets your goat more than anything we say on here.
Ha ha....it's funny how all other london clubs have this unhealthy obsession with Tottenham Hotspur! Woolwich even had to move to the other side of london just to get closer...and then put white on the sleeves of there Forset shirts...they even had a white away shirt the other season(imagine spurs fans wearing red shirts!!!}
ReplyDeleteSorry folks must go to bed (near 3am here) nice to have a bit of fun with you all and I even include(in a whisper) the gooners
ReplyDeleteGreetings to all from Mumbai. very interesting forum. Question? What is WHU? Is WHO or HOO? Thousand apologies.
ReplyDeleteArsenal have won 2 European trophies- the Fairs cup and Cup Winners Cup. Luckily we have a chance to add the Champions League to that this season.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the article completely- spurs fans are allllways harping on about how big they are. You have won the league twice! That is half as many times as Sheffield Wednesday. Obviously you have a decent fan base, and a decent history, but all these spurs fans making very witty sarcastic jokes about West Ham being a "very very big club, scoff scoff" are complete idiots. West Ham have a history easily comparable to your own and a good fan base too.
The point is that West Ham fans realise what size club they are- spurs do not. You all think you are the same size as villa or everton- YOU ARE NOT! Villa have won the European Cup and the league many more times than you, and Everton have won the league 9 times.

What an absolute disgrace you are to all things good about West Ham. You can’t get any feedback from your own supporters so all you do is hide behind your computer calling out fans of other teams. Very sad but very predictable from the reputation you appear to have.
ReplyDeleteYou call us Yids, we don't mind that but where do you lot come from? Answer an area full of Wogs!
ReplyDeleteIs that last post for real???
ReplyDeleteFuckin racist twat, sort it out!
anon 18.09 I dont call you or anyone else yid, in fact if you read the article you will see that I dont have any problem with peoples race colour or creed. Oh and for the record I am from Ireland so where I grew up a wog was what a very posh person called a hair piece!
ReplyDeletewell mate you sound ever so bitter.
ReplyDeleteIm a yid but Im under no illusions to what spurs are, perennial underachievers is basically it! Im pround of my clubs history just as you are and I love watching good football so West Ham AND Arsenal are always on my telly when they play. Basically the problem with football is mugs like you that take things personally and then cast out generalisations.
Cheer up you miserable sod
Odious racism aside, Mr 1809, we don't call you lot Yids, anyway. You call yourselves that. We call you the Crackheads.
ReplyDelete"I'm a yid but Im under no illusions to what spurs are, perennial underachievers is basically it! "
ReplyDeleteNo illusions? Wake up and smell the coffee. You've overachieved in that you haven't been relegated in a long time.
Arsenal aupporter...only 2 Euro cups (and one the Intercity fairs cup(by invitation I add not league place) and poor old Arsene still has yet to win one. I doubt that you will get past Chelsea let alone MU.
ReplyDeleteYou must be terrified of Wenger leaving as you have had success(even if limited recently) for so long that the only way now is down.
As for you guys sneering at our proposed stadium it does resemble yours seeing as our archects were closely related to yrs and in terms of cost effectiveness that particualr design is fashion right now but if you dont like ours how can you like the still soulless Emirates?
I will say one thing about you gooners: thank God your club is still English owned and not some ME or USA group who will badly damge their toys when thrown out of the pram. MU and Pool supporters have absolutely NO idea of what is coming towards them alttough I doubt that the FA will be brave enough to dock them the 10-30 points possible if it does occur.
dear o dear ......
ReplyDeleteavisie;
ReplyDeleteI make you right fella. Too many platics and glory hunters ruining football, who aint got a clue what being a supporter is all about.
Demanding success on a plate, crying if the clubs dont spunk millions on so-called big names, hounding out players/managers alike if they dont live up to over hyped expectations, then slating players and managers and calling em judas' for fucking off!
Supporting a football club should be a POSITIVE thing, regardless what your team is doing. Constant bitchin and whining coz they aint winning everything is a mugs game. Dont get me wrong, I'll be effin gutted if we don't get past United but the downs as well as the ups are all part of it for me.
And constantly goin on about how 'considerly bigger my club is than yours' is effin pathetic.
anon 18.20 actually I wrote a piece about whats facing the top 4 clubs with regard to debt. go check it out.
ReplyDeleteCeltic Hammer "Still not a single post admitting that yur fans have a habit of running their mouth and proclaiming that you are a big club. How come no one has mention dos santos?"
ReplyDeleteBecause we didn't automatically appologise for things other people said we ALL must be X, Y and Z. Get real. Spurs like any other club have a good and bad element. You should deal with individual people and not group everyone under the same stereotypes.
Another point I'd like to make by titling the article "A perfectly rational dislike of Spurs!" (with an exclamation mark) so it appears on NewsNow it will obviously attract a lot of negative interest. Maybe it was on purpose to 'prove your point' but I'm from the north and don't know any spurs fans who match these cliches your coming out with so don't appreciate the suggestions
Anon; 18;20
ReplyDeleteSoooo bitter. Now now!
You are right about the foreign ownership/massive debt thing though.
United are in serious trouble. But I doubt the Premier league would ever have the balls to dock em points or anything if/when the shit hits the fan...
anon 18.26 I didnt title the article for newsnow, Hammersfan does that. Its a bit like Zola and Clarke or Clough and Taylor I may the shop window but he is the goods in the back!
ReplyDeleteOkay then I'll appologise for my big mouth then
ReplyDeleteCH shall do ....
ReplyDeleteWhat does trouble me here is that there is a degree of unprovoked nasty spitefulness which is unworthy. Spurs were one of the big 5 until the EPL where we and Everton were replaced by Cheslki.
So we had a 40yr period(with a few holes) of being regarded as such.
So were were once a big club in terms of success alone. But now we can only justify that claim by our financial rating as the world's 11 th richest club. Now although money is the root of all evil etc this is a thoroughly proven claim by Deloitte and not some idle boasting on our behalf. Now I will admit that onfield we have grossly underachieved and in terms of results we are NOT now a big club. But if you go by worldwide supporters we are damn near 11th there also(haven't seen the lastest estimates). So on two of the 3 grounds we are a big club whether we or you like it or not.
So lets just stop this stupid niggling and co-exist as what really annoys you lot is wheh we buy your players BUT YOU WOULD DO JUST THAT IF YOU COULD. So why dont you all just realise this and let's all shut up.
Celtic Hammer , I quite liked your article , West Ham are one of those teams I've always had a soft spot for and in Zola , a very good manager . I see Spurs falling into the group containing Newcastle , Man City , and to a lesser extent Aston Villa , all with plenty of money to spend , all think they're going to gatecrash the top 4 none of them look remotely like they will and the fans start screaming for the managers head along with most of their highly priced imports so they can " make an assault on the Sky 4 next season " , when in fact Newcastle are getting relegated and Spurs and Man city are praying Everton win the FA Cup so they can sneak into Europe through the back door ... AGAIN !!!!
ReplyDelete"our financial rating as the world's 11 th richest club. Now although money is the root of all evil etc this is a thoroughly proven claim by Deloitte and not some idle boasting on our behalf. "
ReplyDeleteLie. Caught out in a blatantly untrue statement. Except that Spurs fans are so delusional, you probably believe that's actually true.
Another fool perpetuating this arcane rivalry that exists between us.Who cares what some irishman who doesn't come from London think about us?.The issue is you do care, that much is obvious and you like the thought of all these hits to your website.I think spammers are masochists they get beaten every year by a very ordinary team, and yet you still come out with your mindless puerility.Like some drunk getting a good pasting outside a club you come back for more.
ReplyDeleteCH good article and it summarises well what I expected...many thks
ReplyDeleteAnon 18.45...the only lie that I can see is whether it was 11th or 13th(numbers not a strong point). However in keeping with your general post quality you have neglected a subtle hint about the wherabouts of said lie and it would be nice to have a clue so that I can see if you actually have a clue or whether it is just brazen bullsh*t which I fully expect it to be. Just love such entertaining but very superficial sweeping statements such as "Lie".
BTW if it was 13 as opposed to 11 I have to commend you as it REALLY makes a difference to the whole argument(sarcasm in case you missed it)
anon 19.00 are you sure you live in north london? I am surprised that if you are from there you dont care about what Irish people think given the large Irish community in that part of the city.
ReplyDeleteLike i said before this isnt my site. This is Hammersfan's site and he is just good enough to post the things I write. Just so you know I picked up on the anti-Irish tone of your post, I just chose to rise above it.
1902> Not 13th either. Enough with the lies yet?
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, you rightly assumed I was talking about the money-league.
FWIW, the difference between 10th and 13th is the difference between being up with Juve and Inter, or down with Hamburg (hello, Martin Jol) or Fenerbache. But you're not even 13th.
CH maybe he is an OLD north londoner who remembers when when the flats had signs like: No Dogs, No Cats & NO Irish
ReplyDelete(which they did... seriously)
Did they really have those signs?..Ahh happy day's then?..lol. Interesting to see any spammer rise above anything,i thought you lot were eternally trapped in your quagmire of vitriol and spite!!
ReplyDeleteAnon 19.16
ReplyDeleteOh please kind sir don't keep me in suspense as I am away from home with only my notebook and no access to my records(untrue)
Could it even be 14th? such a difference!!
Anyway to stop your bullsh*t it is 11th andf it was forbes and here is the URL http://www.forbes.com/lists/2009/34/soccer-values-09_Soccer-Team-Valuations_Rank.html
Are you man enough to apologise?
I doubt it

ReplyDeletei love westscam especially at xmas thats when they come down with the xmas tree
ReplyDeleteArea full of indians?? remind me where Tottenham is. Nice area full of muggers and crap from all over the world. What a lovely site this is where you have a thick Irishman causing all this bother between fans of rival London clubs. (Edited to remove racism)
ReplyDelete1930, the old ones are the best! I love Sept & October, those lazy months at the end of the summer where Tottenham think they are still playing their pre season friendlies!
ReplyDeletebeen through some threads on here....whenever spurs are mentioned there is always alot of responses and activity....expect more articles from celtic and hammersfan about spurs!!
ReplyDeleteCredit where credit is due, any negative article posted on Newscastle, Arsenal, Chelsea or Man U buys very little response; but have a go at Tottenham or Liverpool and over 100 responses pile in!
ReplyDeleteLOL hammersfan......clearly a case of light fuse and stand back...im a spurs fan, and its all banter at the end of the day.
ReplyDeleteI thought this was suppose to be a West Ham site? That's enough for me and it started so well but can't handle all these racist comments on here.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteHammersfan I appreciate you removing the previous post but it doesnt bother me being called a mick or a paddy or any other generic term for an Irishman. Watching someone highlight their ignorance isnt a reflection on me, it is one on them.
ReplyDelete1942, it's not my article, but yes! As you say, it is all banter at the end of the day, though I'd really appreciate it if people could side step any racist comments and avoid the fouler swear words.
ReplyDeleteAnon1943, I do my best to edit out the racist comments but I suspect your post isn't genuine. The same old Orger trying to discourage participation from others. Worried by our success here perhaps?
Hey Anon 1916
ReplyDeleteStill waiting for your apology and just to rub in your cowardice i will paste some of the Forbes table:
9 Juventus Italy 600 5 18 264 46
10 Schalke 04 Germany 510 38 9 234 41
11 Tottenham Hotspur England 445 29 8 228 70
12 Olympique Lyonnais France 423 18 4 245 94
13 AS Roma Italy 381 9 -12 276 69
14 Internazionale Milan Italy 370 77 -8 272 27
15 Hamburg SV Germany 330 0 13 202 44
Edited from above due to racism: "A West Ham Jew winding up Tottenham fans. Love it!" And do you know, you are 25% right. I have a Jewish grandmother and I am proud of the fact. Of course, had Hitler won the war, I wouldn't be here now. Perhaps that's why I understand why the racism directed at Tottenham fans is unacceptable! Or maybe it is just because I have a brain!

ReplyDeleteNite all been fun
1953, if you want to post something like that again, be brave enough to leave your name and address. I suspect you might have a visit to explain why such racist comments might not be good for your own health, never mind the health of our society. Grow up!

ReplyDeleteObviously most Spurs fans can understand why West Ham fans have a dislike for all things Tottenham Hotspur, Spurs have had a huge amount of success over their history where as West Ham have been pretty well anonymous over the same period, If I was a West Ham fan I would detest Tottenham and their fans.
ReplyDeleteHope this will settle things.
ReplyDeleteBut here is my purely scientific size of club list, based on recent history, overall history, size of ground, size of support & wealth.
1. Man U
2. liverpool
3. Arsenal
4. Chelsea
5. Everton
=. Tottenham
7. Aston Villa
=. Newcastle
9. Man City
10.West Ham
So yes, spurs are a bigger club than west Ham,,,but who gives a toss! Is that what supporting a club is all about? I live in haringey and all I hear about is how much bigger Spurs are,,,,so what!!!!! the whole point of the article was not that if spurs are a big club, but that's all their fans ever go on about. I know that west ham are a slightly smaller club than spurs, but we're a bigger club than fulham, and they're above us both,,,,,so what!
So yes I live 3 miles from Highbury and 3 miles from tottenham,,,and I know which club I respect and which 1 I wish would dissapear up it's own *@*@!!±
Now,,,watch the abuse I get!
The facts are spurs have had much more success than westham and we do pretty much always beat you. Its just the way of the world. No one says you dont love your club and West Ham do play god football, but unfortunately for you we do pretty much always beat you and we have a lot more money and a bigger ground and soon to be a much bigger ground. sure we are not a top 4 club at the moment but are ambitious, and really amuses me to see West Ham fans get so worked up! We dont care about our rivalry cos there isnt really one.
ReplyDeleteWhat the effin fook was that W*G shit???

ReplyDeleteHammersfan;
That is some seriously sick shite.
Not surprised the neanderthal hasn't left a name. Anyone who would even consider posting shite like that, really is screwed up and in need of help.
(I agree mate, but mind the language please!)
Anyone else notice how all the come backs from spurs fans either bang on about them being a big club or slag me off for being Irish? No one has yet commented on why their fans are so obsessed with telling people how much better than other teams they are?
ReplyDeleteThe whole point of this piece was to get decent spurs fans to speak up but with very few exceptions all the replies do is re-enforce the stereo type.
Sorry fella. Just makes me angry man.
ReplyDeleteNo probs Spike!
ReplyDeleteNLH..I actually agree with you although financially we are better off than Everton but a moot and trivial point. The bigger club rubbish is just that and what you and every hammer ignores is that it is when we buy yr players that you become so p*ssed and i can understand that totally (dog eat dog) but if positions were reversed you would do exactlty the same as that is the nature of the beast. That is what really upsets u guys and so it should because it reinforces the impression that we are bigger without us having to ay anything. I also agree that we do have thus misguided expectation of success which has been very farfetched of late and this arrogant expectation of something is also annoying. So it is not so much as us saying that "ours is biggeer than yours" but the fact that we act as though it is and it is that arrogance of expectation which really annpys you and creates that massive chip on the shoulder which when it is all said and done is as stupid as is our expectations. dammit I am going to bed for sure this time
ReplyDeleteWe are not only a bigger club than West Ham, we are MUCH MUCH bigger!
ReplyDelete2013, leave a name mate! Have a good night's kip and thanks for your contributions!
ReplyDeleteIts probably Salty the perv!!
ReplyDeleteAs opposed to Anonymous the Coward? Noticed you aren't even will ing to arrange that meet in the Boleyn you claimed to be up for! How sad!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI was there on Saturday, where were you? Probably jerking yourself off waiting for a reply while pretending to support your team.
ReplyDeleteCeltic are bigger than both of you put together. Try to keep quiet down there.
ReplyDeleteNarrows the field a little! I know dave was there with del but I doubt either would be so coarse. How about revealing who you are, coward?
ReplyDeleteBy the way it was noted how brave you are by your no show at Portsmouth this season, all mouth and no action just about sums you up.
ReplyDeleteWell, check your facts with Pete. I wanted two tickets, for myself and my son, but he assumed that in view of the threats, I would not want to go. When do you want to meet in the Boleyn?
ReplyDeleteWill be in touch, keep looking over that shoulder Trev!!
ReplyDeleteLOL You sad man!
ReplyDeleteHammersfan would you kindly enlighten the rest of us as to what most of this is about. Spurs Jim
ReplyDeleteHammersfan if my articles keep getting you these kinda hits you're going to have get me a good drink next time I am headed to Upton Park. In the mean time I am off into puerto banus with my mates to get them a good drink before they head off back to rainy Ireland tomorrow. I am here myself till wednesday. funny thing but for a thick mick I've done well enough for myself to have a nice pad in the sun!
ReplyDeleteJust imagine how much better I could have done if I was born a spurs fan! Well actually it would probably still be the same size place in Spain but I would just run around telling people how much bigger my place was than theirs was.
Oh and Hammersfan let me know if you are having that meet at the Boleyn, it never hurts to have a 6ft+ former Munster Schools front row about the place! Mind you I reckon we have a better chance of a tear up with Lord Lucan than that mug!
Enjoy your evening fellas I will leave you in the capable hands of Hammersfan and companions.
Make a pleasant change to see a brave Paddy! Don't you lot normally attack from behind or just leave your calling cards for innocent bystanders. As for keep calling out us Spurs fans, keep it up pal and I might just have to gatecrash that party in the Boleyn.
ReplyDelete1951>
ReplyDeleteSorry for calling you a liar. I should have allowed for the fact that you Spuds are all delusional, and realised it was a genuine want-to-believe-it error.
But still, are you really going by the three year old Forbes Guess-list, instead of the reliable data for last season provided by Deloitte?
I posted on the last article on here about the yids losing at OT, that article was pathetic but this time you have gone too far - you are clearly a sick individual.
ReplyDeleteLOL. 2043, it goes back to my days at the Mordant Org, a West Ham forum. I ruffled a few feathers when I objected to crude racism and antisemitism and by having a more realistic view about the capabilities of our team and manager. That made me a "Spud", which is ironic given the views expressed on here by Tottenham fans!
ReplyDeleteCeltic, if I accept advertising and start generating a revenue, I will give you a cut mate. If you are as intelligent as I think you are, we should sort out a forum to springboard off of here.
2137, if you can control the racism it would be good if you could join the party! Could be like the end of a Tarantino film at this rate! LOL

What a load of old bollocks, can’t work out if you are talking to yourself or whether the thick Mick is as daft as he sounds. A match made in heaven, looking forward to seeing all the top quality advertising!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis article shows the obsession that all west ham fans have with spurs.
ReplyDeleteHow do you class big club?
Money?
History?
Media exposure?
Support?
Stadium?
How do west ham beat spurs on any of the above?
Please stop trying to start a rivalry that is not there.
Fook me! Who the effin hell uses phrases like 'thick mick'???
ReplyDeleteSomeone who thinks ancient garbage like; "Love Thy Neighbour" and "Mind Your language" is comedy Gold...
Bitter likkle man.
A mordant orger I think Spike, and that isn't rhyming slang! I've left the post up because of your rebuttal and because it shows the guy up for what he is, a racist moron!
ReplyDeleteCeltic Hammer. I'll mention Dos Santos. Overrated but still not yet 20. But what I will also do is mention Tevez and Mascherano. When West Ham signed them, I watched on Sky Sports News a day of West Ham Fans outside that rediculous looking Disney Worldesque Main stand of yours, claiming that Champions Leage football was on its way to Upton Park and a top 4 finish was almost a certainty. (You can ask Sky for the archive tapes if you want). We all know what happened next. So don't give it that Tottenham have delusions of grandeur like no other team. Every team that feels confident in its side does it. Even Gooners - and they haven't won anything for ages which given their match day income and debt is nothing short of financial mismanagement. Point is We can all get over excited about our teams and why shouldn't we - there would be no point supporting them if we didn't want them to achieve and believe that they could. I hate the way that West Ham fans go on about Spurs fans "bigging themselves up". Whilst some fans might talk us up more than is sensible these are the same fans that are irate when it goes wrong. To me it seems West Ham from the fans to the board are happy with mid table finishes(although I think Zola and Clarke will see it differently) and don't really care when you do finish mid table. Why should you be with that? You pay enough to watch the games (More than United or Liverpool fans for sure and they demand success)? West Ham have been poorly mismanged by its previous boards and managers before now. Maybe if you as fans demanded a bit of success you might just get it. You just seem to be happy just having a dig at Spurs. I think it would be better for West Ham if you let us get on with it and concentrate on achieving what your loyal fans and decent style of football deserves.
ReplyDeleteYou forgot COYS Terry!
ReplyDeleteNice one Hammersfan.
ReplyDeleteYou really need to get a life CelticHammer. As it has been said earlier no matter what happens to my club I will follow them thick or thin. This is no doubt the case for all non plastic supporters all over this land. Your turgid little article serves no purpose but to stir up ill will. But hey perhaps you need the attention.

The West Ham fans who write articles like this are no different to the Spurs fans that write similar articles. It cannot have been written by a true West Ham fan because a true West Ham fan would go to Tottenham given the opportunity and not worry about given the ticket money to West Ham fan.
ReplyDeleteGet a life Celtic Hammer. There always will be spite between the 2 clubs if ridiculous rants like this are published.
TrevorH
addenda:
ReplyDeletethe deloitte list (in part) above is for the 2007-2008 season and is the current one for them .
IIRC it is based upon cash turnover.
The Forbes list was published 8/4/2009 and again IIRC it is based upon estimated worth not cash flow.
Hammersfan thank you for the kind words..I only get a "rush of blood" occasionally and don't post anywhere much now but a certain Mr Webb and his hand-up for his MU mates had me seething for some 24 hours and I had to turn my attention to football.
Good luck next season and ignore europe this year and get yr squad strength up as without depth you are stuffed in Europe. We had youth team players in 2 of our UEFA matches so overstretched were we.
I've been West Ham 30 years and I hate Spurs but having been at the match this weekend I was ashamed. After reading your rag of an article I have to wonder if you were one of the fools with a weak throwing arm and even weaker abuse aimed at the England captain and the most successful product of our youth academy in recent years.
ReplyDeleteYou sad act
Disappointed as you can guess I do not hate WHU although because of the admitted bribery of an FA official in 1919 I do hate the scum(gooners).
ReplyDeleteAs Chelsea have stolen more of your players recently than we have, and as they seem to have the most bigoted of fans, (compared to even the gooners) many of whom are like cockroaches and never seen until Chelsea won sometning, I am curious about your opinion of them as a cub and of their supporters.
Chelsea always had areputation for producing good young english players but like WHU were even worse perennial underachievers than were we until the russkis rolled in.
'Disappointed', I don't think you read the article carefully enough mate. Celtic makes clear that he regularly stands with opposing fans and enjoys the banter with them. He is NOT the type to abuse players on the opposing team. Like you, I was disgusted by the treatment of Lampard and Terry on Saturday. I wrote an article in defence of Lampard before kick off "To be Frank, well said Lamps" and, as an England fan, I am a huge admirer of both.
ReplyDeleteSilly Celtic liar.
ReplyDeleteWHy would someone pretend that every conversation they have ever had with a Spurs fan begins with "My club is bigger than yours"?
I would wager that not one single conversation has ever begun in that way because it would be simply absurd and make no sense.
A lot of effort to write not very much of which two thirds is untrue.
Oh, and I am a West Ham fan and I have never had such a conversation with a Spurs fan.
Excellent comment West Ham fan at 8:37. What makes me laugh is I see celtichammers abusive posts on another forum when anyone dares to disagree with his extremist views. Then he says things like "...I respect that but when the only way you can support your club is by trying to put others down it annoys me." Oh really? Try telling celtichammer that BG is a crap chairman! And then "I am a tolerant guy...". never have I seen anyone so intolerant of other's opinions than this muppet. He's a liar and a fool unfortunately. Now he's stoked up a load more hatred between two great clubs. Tottenham are the bigger club and that's a fact. No Spurs fan I've ever spoken to starts a conversation with "We are bigger than you!" But hey. Why let facts get in the way of a bigotted moron's version of life?
ReplyDeleteWe're a bigger club than you.
ReplyDeleteYou sound so bitter, Its not our fault you're a west ham fan. Do you think we dont get shit from Chelsea and Arsenal fans?
ReplyDeleteYou're post has had the opposite effect of what you intended. You're fellow west ham fans would of been cringing, pleading that you'd stop making them look so weak
I think that you Hammers guys(great english :() should give CelticH some shrift as he was and is basically just sh*tstirring for hits and he succeeded.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe that he actually believes the crap that he is spouting as he is capable of more than one sentence and obviously isn't one of the two liner "F*** Off U C***S etc" types that infest the websites of all clubs. It is a pity that education(secondary ) and intelligence (IQ >90..I'm generous :) aren't prerequisites for the internet but that isn't anyone's fault.
I knwe when I first started to post here that it was in reply to a sh*t stir but it opened the way fro some deecnt dialogue between most of us and that is what it is all about.
All to often we jump the gun on the internet as we cannot see the other guy's smile.
Even though I think that Arsenal are a cheat club (by the way that they crawled into Div 1 in 1919 and by the dreadful way they played until Wenger, I think that the Wenger sides have played some wonderful football even if the old paedophile(a joke :)) never sees any faults in his own players onfield. We can still discuss football with the gooners and if you hammers think that we crow you should try listening the gooner
moronic minority that all clubs have( had to laugh when the gooner who posted here ran when he discovered that THFC had won more euro trophies than Arsenal)
So lighten up a bit you WHU guys and think yrselves lucky that you have Zola who IMHO ius a good manager.
A Q if i may: How is Noble doing?
I was impressed with him but as I dont watch ohter clubs I am not sure what he does now or how he is going? And you have great young striker in the youth side as I think that saw some shots )of him somewhere.
So much to say on this one it is hard to know where to start.
ReplyDeleteThe West Ham fans are the vitriolic, hate filled, vocal ones not us at Spurs.
You are the ones that are desperate to pull us down to your level and make us your 'big rival'. Every club has one and you lot were always embarrased it was some equally useless East London mob so you looked around and settled on us.
I am not sure when exactly this was, I do remember that many Spurs fans thought it a shame when you lot were relegated, we really did, myself included, but since you came back up this 'hard on' for hating Spurs became obvious -by the way now it means when you next go down the laughter will be loudest from Tottenham.
We do not see West Ham as a rival, you do however, you are desperate for it. Your chairmans 'not selling to Spurs' stance was the perfect example of this - do you honestly think we would have an issue selling to West Ham? Of course not, or just about any club in the league except the scum - you know why? Because that is who we are actually bothered about - We hate them for long established reasons and because it is a good target to shoot, aspirational hatred perhaps?
Anyway, if I am honest, the whole Spurs v Gooner scum thing is less of a thing for them than it is for us. Sound familiar? You hate us because you want to be seen as a comparable club, and for now that is simply not the case.
So keep hating, good luck with that, meanwhile we will keep ignoring you and focusing on other things, things that matter, against rivals worth aiming for, which does not include West Ham.
Mezcal.
A small man with a big chip. I look forward to your next story on English arrogance and the potato famine.
ReplyDeleteThat was the most ignorant and offensive article I've ever heard regarding a football club. I've been a Spurs supporter for over 40 years and I've never encountered any such nonsense. Every football club had it's smattering of brainless fans - you're top of the West Ham pile.
ReplyDeleteI am a spurs fan and I am also annoyed by spurs fans. I feel we get on our own players backs too often, and get carried away every summer. But we do have nice fans too. Not just internet nerds who like to write swear words. There's a lot of good natured Spurs fans who love the club, want us to be the best and don't slag everyone off. I want to read more fans praising our players and less insulting other teams.
ReplyDeleteBut i feel you have timed your article badly as there is a lot of anger after we were raped at Old Trafford. Most Spurs fans I know personally are rational and pleasant. I hope we can see more of that and less cyber geeks with tourettes.
PS. Hate West Ham, love Gianfranco!
Yids!
I am a spurs fan that grew up in east london surrounded by West Ham fans. Most of my friends and work collegues are also West Ham fans and we enjoy a healthy rivalry. The first game my dad took me to was West Han v's Spurs at upton Park.
ReplyDeleteI've always had a soft spot for them. They've always played entertaining football (not unlike the spurs way) but have lacked recent success (just like spurs).
I do however, take exception to some of the so called fan's comments here. Both clubs are 'big' in their own right! Surely all teams outside of the 'big four' should be focused on topling the aforementioned and not deriding each other with harsh comments and sometimes outrageous and unacceptable racist remarks from both sides.
Does this not undermine the beauty of the game we all love. It doesn't matter if some spurs fans are deluded into beleiving the media hype that we should be breaking the top four. These are usually the same ones that shout rediculous abuse at their own players ultimately shattering their confidence. As a business, spurs is a success. As a football club we are leaps and bounds behind the likes of Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool and the Arse.
It disgusts me to see some of the responses to well written, albeit biased articles but don't forget, this was written by a football fan, that has a personal opinion about another club. So what! He's not insulting you personally is he.
Read it for what it is. One guy voicing his dislike for Spurs fans. Again, I dislike the same, so called spurs fans who undermine the very core values of our great club.
I sincerely hope that West Ham achieve great things under Zola/Clarke. I genuinely belive that when a 'second tier club' finally breaks the dominance of the top-four on a consistant basis, this can only serve to improve the premier league and thus allow other clubs to follow. Hopefully Spurs....
anon 9.21 Scanlen is that you? haha I have been reading you recent posts on teamtalk. It seems everyone has seen through your little attempt to have a back handed dig at Zola and Clarke. Its funny that after all the months of responding to you and proving you wrong all I had to do was give you enough rope and let you hang yourself with it.
ReplyDeleteAs for the poster who makes a joke about the Irish famine I am glad that the death and emmigration of 2million people is such a source of fun for you. Maybe I should crack a joke about the holocaust? Funny thing is we didnt get a memorial or a bunch of show trials after almost half our population were wiped out and we didnt go around beating the rest of the world over the head with it and using it as an excuse to oppress a whole nation for 40years.
I am gald to read one or two decent posts from spurs fans, although they are few and far between.
To the guy who thinks I am the type of person who would endorse the chants aimed at lampard, I am not. I would boo him for how he treated the club that not only gave him his career but his father's too. He chose to make this about the club and the fans when it was the then chairman who sacked his dad. He loves winding us up but what was sung on saturday ahs no place in a football ground or any other place in life. I am Irish so I dont care how well he plays for England. Of former WestHam players I only have issue with Ince, DeFoe and Lampard and am happy to give a warm welcome to any others who come back to Upton Park. Its not that Defoe went to spurs, I mean so did Carrick and I have no problem with him, its that defoe is a vile little runt who's ego is far bigger than his talent will ever be.
I continue to be amazed at how many spurs fans completely miss the point of this article, it was not a fishing excersize as some of you think. It was to try and understand why spurs fans behave the way they do but for the most part all i got was abuse and "we are a bigger club than you" garbage.
Oh and if that was scanlen earlier I have a quick question, how come Bright-Jones solicitors of Toulouse could find no record of a british national called Scanlen buying a property in france for the last 5years? Seems odd for a man who "retired" there not to own a house!
This article is again based on lies - it keeps happening! I recently read an article somewhere called 'broke west ham v bankrupt spurs'. That just sums up there desperation in writing a load of rubbish in the hope it were true. Now i hear comments like 'there wasting lewis' money' - Lol. So just to make it clear please see below;

Ask any neutral and a club that was the first to do the double and bring a European trophy to England, has won eight f.a. cups, four lg cups, twice champions of England and has won three European trophies, would say that equals a big club. Then ask them what they think of a club that has just three f.a. cups to their name and has never won the league and they would say that there a small club. WHL will soon be rebuilt in the image it deserves (and no it wont be another emirates - actually read the plans and you will see it will be the first stadia that embodies current grounds like WHL and villa park etc in a new stadium. We will be very close to the pitch and all stands will have a unique look to them as opposed to being a bowl). If you ever get your new ground you know you will be leaving the area and going to somewhere like pickets lock. Your hatred for us is laughable when you consider your not even on are radar. I'm sorry mate like it or not and whether your fed up of hearing it or not, west ham are significantly smaller than Spurs by every possible measure.
And lastly something else for you to enjoy;

:)
I'd like to consider myself a sensible spurs fan. Every summer when the over excited ones start banging on about the top 4, i hold my head in shame and cringe at their stupidity as they set us up for yet another fall and ridicule from everyone else. So from that stand point i understand you not liking us. However the pure hatred that west ham fans display to spurs is baffling to most. We save our dislike for arsenal and chelsea and basically we arent bothered by west ham just as much as we arent bothered by fulham. I reckon this is why the level of dislike from west ham is so strong, you simply dont like the fact you dont register on our radar. Both our clubs claim to have this tradition of playing the right way and i suspect thats why the rivally first appeared but since then the fact we have bigger fish to hate riles the west ham fans no end. get over it !!!
ReplyDeleteCeltichammer said:"Funny thing is we didnt get a memorial or a bunch of show trials after almost half our population were wiped out and we didnt go around beating the rest of the world over the head with it and using it as an excuse to oppress a whole nation for 40years"
ReplyDeleteI am sorry but that statement shows a total ignorance of the true history of the Middle east
and not only for the last 40 years but the last 1300. I am neither jewish nor christian but if you define oppression as infidel murder, apostate murder, "honour killings", brainwashed suicides, Slavery, doctrinal racism, falsehood and theft etc etc ad infin and all acceptable by their book, then you have the wrong side totally. I am not trying to start a war here but please do not accept so easily the leftwing rubbish put out by the BBC and its fellow euro conspirators.
Go read some true history of the crescent where every country which uses it was taken by force except Saudi Arabia.
The potato famine in Ireland was disgusting but it was a function of 19th sentury morality or lack thereof) and politics not of those of the 20the century and even now. the Cause of the famine was greed and stupidity, the cause of the other which still continues today is religious supremacism. There is NO comparison. If you wish I can document all the above or I can give you the titles of over 40 books that I have on the shelf in front of me and which explain it objectively and without
politically correct" and oil hungry bias.
Addendum...National socialism was heading towards a religion by 1944 and steps were already taken to implement Hitler as a Prophet which many germans thought that he was(no antigerman sneer there). Had hitler won(and it was much closer than most realise) we would probbably have a swastika in all of our churches and say our prayers to dear Adolf. Fortunately an even more evil man called Stalin did not care how many of his own people(45 million) that it took to win.
ReplyDeleteanon 12.58 at the risk of starting a whole new discussion here what happened years ago does not give the modern israeli government the right dent humanitarian aid to innocent civilians or to pound lebanon to dust because some terroists fired a rocket into israel from there. I have been to Israel and to Lebanon, beruit should be one of the most beautiful cities in the world but it was torn apart by war. Lebanon should have been held up as an example to the whole middle east as proof that jews arabs and chritians can live together in harmony like they did there until the 70s. The real tragedy is that that vision undermined extremists on both sides who needed to force their respective peoples on both sides that everyone else was the enemy bent on their destruction. And because of that one of the most beautiful countries I have ever visited and without a doubt the finest people I have ever met, who even after all that happened them are warm, welcoming and good humoured have suffered terribly because of wars and attacks from all sides. You know so much of the Lebanese character reminds me if the Irish. There is a saying that those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it but I have always believed that those who who focus too much on history will find a means to repeat it.
ReplyDeleteIn some ways the arguements on this page about this article are a microcosim of what is happened in Israel.
I wrote this article pleading with spurs fans to give me reason to change my views. All i got was more of the abuse that lead me to where I am now. I have been called a mick and a paddy, I have had jokes made about the death and starvation of millions of Irish people, I have been called stupid and I have had to listen to all the usual drivel spouted by spurs fans. One or two have stated that spurs fans do go over the top in their boasting but then blame it on the media and sign off by saying how big a club they are. Personaly I dont allow the media to define my beliefs or prompt what I say. If spurs fans are so feeble minded that they can not form their own opinions, or even justify them wihtout resorting to insults then that reflects very badly on them and maybe gives me the answer I seek as to why they behave like they do
That is one of the most pathetic blog posts I have ever read.
ReplyDeleteGet a grip man.
I never seen so much moaning and wingeing from a fan site other than this one.
ReplyDeletethis website comes up on newsnow all the time and all it ever seems to do is moan about spurs!
pathetic.
Haven't you lot got jobs to do? I was going to comment on the the original article but on flying through 177 comments I find discussion on the middle east and the potato famine. Who said football fans were one dimensional!
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth I don't mind West Ham but this blog is always appearing on my Tottenham Newsnow. Consequently I'm bored with this argument. Please post articles on your own club. Thanks!
All you spammer's sayin u have more history then spurs, can any 1 of ya's let me know exactly what is your highest position u have finished in the top flight league and im talkin about since you were established.....................
ReplyDeletei think you will find that u have never finished higher then third. now that is wat u call a small club!So Spurs are a considerably bigger club then you even Preston North end r!

About the ME..there is no islamic extremism. only islam .read the Koran, the haditha and The reliance of the traveller(sharia law textbook) then we can talk.
But seriously you have no real idea of what is happening there and what it measn for teh future of mankind
This subject is dropped by me.
About being called a paddy etc..OMG I call discrimination when someone tries to assault me, treats me unfairly or makes me pay more for something. Names are schoolgirl things..who cares?. Once you have been shot at verbal abuse is a joke. You would never even cut it in the Irish army.
As for the dreadful spurs fans...there are bigots and morons and idiots at all clubs FFS and with articles like yrs you just paint a target on yrself and then complain when you draw them out in to the sunshine to shoot at you.
I am sure that EVERY supporter at EVERY club can find an exzcuse to hate another club. But how much of that is for real and how much is sh*tstirring? Anyone bashed you recently? That is hatred not an idiot with a mouthful of Fs.
I have wasted too much of my life here to continue anymore Goodbye
Hammersfan says: Some great replies towards the end. Well done to those guys who are taking this in the right spirit, as an impassioned article from a true football fan. The word "hate" is OTT in my opinion, which is why I carried "Dislike" in the title, but we all have clubs we love to loath. Mine isn't Tottenham, it is Leeds. That said, I don't want to see Leeds in the old Third Divsion, that is too great an indignity for a club that was robbed of a European Cup win by an appalling refereeing performance.
ReplyDeleteI think this article just shows that you are jealous because we are a bigger club than you and because we will break into the top four next season.
ReplyDeleteMy Dads bigger than your dad!
ReplyDeletePathetic arguement. What was the point?
Not as a spurs fan, but as a football fan I'm embarrased by some of what I have read.
