Tottenham away - Luis Boa-Morte's Day of Destiny?
Way back in the mists of time, post Tottenham's Champions League Choke and on the coat tails of our Great Escape, there were rumours that the Cockyfools wanted to sign Luis. They needed somebody to play wide left with the ability, not only to cross, but to chip in with goals, and Luis seemed to fit the bill. He had, after all, netted during our Great Escape and, although that was, and remains, his solitary goal for the club, he had an impressive reputation based upon his days at Fulham. Sadly, Curbishley didn't want to let him go and his wages were also an obstacle - or so the red tops would have us believe. Some transfer stories are obviously stupid but this one made some sense. Tottenham still have not solved the problem of who to play on the left of midfield.
In many ways LBM is the "typical Tottenham signing", a player who has flattered to deceive elsewhere and who is then found wanting when moving to a bigger club - I offer you Bentley, Pavlova, Robinson, Bent et all. Whereas players grow when they move to some clubs, at Tottenham they shrivel into a shell. Perhaps it is because the need for the snip is hidden in the small print!
And the point of all this? Well in his third season, and after 72 appearances in Claret and Blue, Luis actually had a very good game for us last week. His all round contribution over the 90 minutes was impressive and his pass for the Stanislas goal was, in my opinion, the "pass of the season" from a Hammer this year. This came on the back of a thoroughly committed performance against Blackburn and a vital assist (albeit from an offside position). All that is missing is a goal - and whilst I never make predictions about West Ham games, I have this feeling in my water that today is the day for Luis, the day he moves from zero to hero and from Fool to Crown Prince. The picture suggests that he isn't called donkey based on his ability after all!
The odds are against us. Tottenham's home form has been good and 'Arry turns us over every time we play one of his sides. We were terrible at Upton Park against them and memories of the 4-0 thumping from last season are still all too fresh. Add in the fact that The Foe is set to return and we are without half a team of first pick players and it doesn't look too hopeful does it? But then it was going to be a walk over in May 2006 and Tottenham were going to be playing Champions League football the following season weren't they?
Last season Boa was vilified after being sent off in the corresponding fixture. That was the final straw for many of us. We thought he was useless, and this confirmed he was a total liability. Even Curbishley moved off script, interrupting his post match rant about Anton to criticise one of his own "untouchables", actually saying that a player he had signed had put in a less than perfect performance. Boa owes us, this is his Day of Destiny! If he does net the winner, remember you heard it here first. If he has a mare, just read what else I've posted about him in the past.
But for now, immortality beckons, come on Boa, you can do it!
clutching at straws my dear pikey....its gonna take more than luis boa faulty to save you from what will be served on you today, as per usual. the build up to this game, on all the pikey forums had been hilarious!
ReplyDeletelove the way they constanly slate bent as a complete failure at spurs, because he turned down 70k per week at west ham to come to us for 40k !!!...the player currently on 15 goals in all comps. the player on more goals than there top score cole...yeah bent is shit alright! lol
ReplyDeleteWhile LBM has never shown the goal scoring form in claret and blue that he demonstrated at Fulham - in fact he can't shoot to save his life - I have always admired his tenacity and 100% commitment in every game he plays in. That set up last week (I refuse to call it an "assist") was excellent and not the first he has created coming in from the left.
ReplyDeleteLike Neill - who also, unfairly in my opinion, gets a bad press - his professionalism and Premier League experience are crucial. Watch them carefully, and it's the clever little things they do to put an opposing player off or get them riled up and unsettled. They may be negative attributes, but they are necessary in the game at this level.
As for the Spurs fans who come on to this site - well they will probably beat us today. But that's the difference between us. I and several of the contributors to this site are realists. We hope but we don't expect. Ever since my school days in Wanstead, where you went for either Hammers or Spurs, the Spurs fans I have known have always - without exception - been drenched in delusions of grandeur. Well, let them enjoy their fantasies of Champions League football and if they beat us today, let them enjoy that too. I'm feeling magnanimous this Easter weekend. They're only human as - though many of them forget it - is their team. I prefer to stay in touch with reality.
Says it all that you constantly harp on about beating us when we were ill
ReplyDeleteSays it all about your team and you as a human being
Shame on you
Lets be honest beating the spuds aint the biggest thing in the world, they beat us last season and we still finished above em, this season they may beat us but we will still finish above em. Next season with a nice new contract from Wii in his pocket Arry will sign his usual bag of misfits and we will finish above em. Lets find some one new to moan about. A team worthy of our insightful comments, wit and overall banter.
ReplyDeleteI hear that Claret & True, the only thing that makes them our rivals is us, if we ignore them then they will go away, it works for Arsenal, :)
ReplyDeletewhat a bunch of sad , sad bastards you hammers really are, you are now the ones with delusions of grandeur...delusions that you are now a better team than spurs! spurs who have been in europe the last 3 years, 2 cup finals in 2 seasons, the carling cup....even the dodgy lasagne that you harp on about, we were 1 game from champs league footy..... west ham are an eternity from that goal...after today the gap will be 3 ponts with 6 games remaining, and with the run in i fancy us to pick up more points than you. we will finish above you. and as for next season, i think we will finish 15 points at least above you. we also have work about to commence on our new state of the art 60,000 seater....while west ham haven't the resources for a new tent. so spammers, try to not get carried away. know your place.
ReplyDeletelast 3 years at spurs....europe every year, 2 cup finals, 1 cup...the future at spurs...60,000 seater being built, great squad with strenght in depth, only recently playing like they should be. bright future all round......west ham the last 3 years...erm...avoided relegation illegally...the future???..making up the numbers as per usual, and may also produce a couple of decent youngsters which will definately leave, in standing with the clubs tradition.
ReplyDeleteTurns out that feeling in my water was a urine infection. Still, my doctor is a Tottenham supporter so he can now take the piss out of me!
ReplyDeleteLuis' day of destiny eh? You can't take it away from him though - he's a hard worker and a trier.
ReplyDeleteI guess he was only going to make a name for himself today if Graham Poll was the ref - he might have got himself three or more yellow cards.
A disappointing result but I guess you can't expect much more when you can't put your best team on the pitch. If only we had more potency up front. If only, if,if!
Too many ball watchers in mid-field today.
ReplyDeletewas it ever going to be anything other than a spurs win? we pump you likes bitches. 7 goals without reply now...3 points the gap...18left...you have villa next, we have newcastle...i reckon that means were even stevens..then we will breeze past you on the run in...i guess old harry was right! your current kids are shite!
ReplyDeleteStruggled to beat our youth team though Jew boy.
ReplyDeletesame old excuses...we beat pikey seniors at your place...we beat pikey kids at our place...but all pikey fans have is excuses, excuses, excuses
ReplyDeleteSimilar to the excuses you Yids use to have when we came down and run you all over your ground throughour the 70's & 80's then for fun we would do you on the pitch.
ReplyDeleteanother great afternoon of gypsy hunting at WHL...cheers lads.
ReplyDeletethat 7 spurs goals, to 0 pikey goals....that pikeys bummed, home and away...thats 10 yrs of domination at WHL....i wish we could play west pikey ham all the time, we would be champions every year!
