Zola Tells A Whopper!

I'm not having that! Zola has just been quoted saying that the move of Lucas Neill into midfield was his idea. The little Italian fibber is quoted as saying, "It was my idea. I think Lucas Neill is a very intelligent player. I've played him right back, left back, central defender and he has always done a good job. He is intelligent and he has good technical ability, so I was 100 per cent sure that he would have done the job."

Now many might be asking, 'Why does the manager feel the need to claim the credit for tactical decisions anyway? Isn't that what he is paid for?'. Perhaps Zola's glee at actually making a decision gives us an insight into who exactly calls the tactical shots ordinarily. Step forward Mr Clarke?

But that is not what has provoked this post. Any long standing member of the Mordant Org will know that, in its more vibrant days, a tactical genius by the name of westham66 made this call way back in October! We laughed at him at the time, just as we laughed at his suggestion of playing LBM from the start of every game and moving Cole back to a holding midfield role! Who knows, 66 might have been right all along! Next season, Lucas may be our playmaker, Carlton our holding midfield man, and Boa might be the 20 goal a season man 66 always claimed he could be! And pigs might fly.

  3. i often see mentions of this on your blogs....what is the Mordant Org?

  4. Freddyfreddy, I'll give you the heads up here and try and be unbiased. the mordant dot org as fanno calls it is a formerly pretty decent website whereby it is easy to contribute and there used to be all sort of characters on there. The site owners and others were banned for having views at variance with a small clique who the site owner named the Klan.

  5. Freddyfreddy, to be fair, the site was superb. Then a small group took over and took issue with the more intelligent contributors, a number of whom have defected to this site.

  6. Fanny, why edit my original unbiased opinion. What was the problem with it? I thought you said anything on here would get posted, why are you trying to edit it to make yourslef look better ???

  7. A number who have defected to this site??? It you think the odd comment means defecting! Lets just see how the 2 sites are doing in a couple of months shall we.

  8. what was the site?

i only think it's fair that people know as you are always making reference to it!

otherwise this site will just turn into the one that you are explicitly trying to seperate yourself from..which nobody wants

  9. The site is westhamfans.org, formerly an excellent eclectic mix of football chat and lively banter, sadly now unwell and under heavy sedation.

  10. Anon, why not tell us who you are? You won't get banned from the Orgestra just for putting their point of view on here. I have to take exception with you, despite having the benefit of being an easy to use forum and not a user unfriendly blog, the Org is under-performing when compared to this site. Not only are hits per article higher, but the quality here is far superior and yes quite a few of the old regulars are posting here fairly frequently. The views of fans from other clubs are welcome and add to the quality debate that is starting to develop. You may be right; in a couple of months the Org may have re-established itself. But that will either be because Fanno has had to reduce his prodigious output or because of the cumbersome nature of blogs. It's not supposed to be a blog, it's intended to be a forum, it seems to me that Fanno wants this site to be as diverse and stimulating as possible and invites contributions and debate. Just look at the quality articles being produced one after another by a man with a family who holds down a full time job, I for one miss the Orgestra, but I sincerely hope that this site can transfer to a forum format because if we could add some easier banter to the quality debate this site could flourish. Keep up the good work mate your playing a blinder so far!

  13. To Anon One, I took issue with being called a racist. It was because of my expressions of concern that the Y word for Tottenham fans became banned on the Mordant Org. One of the chief reasons the Klan objected to my presence was because I objected to certain disgustingly racist views being expressed, including one of the Grand Wizards posting that Hitler was right to instigate the Final Solution. The only allegation of racism directed at myself was over my views on the Irish troubles when I objected to compensation payments for IRA terrorists killed by British Soldiers. That is not racism, that is standing up to insanity! I object just as strongly to Protestant thugs and terrorists receiving compensation payments. Since that post we have had more sectarian killings. If a Government signals that murder is acceptable, it is no wonder that people with the inclination return to murdering.

  17. (This is the post deleted from above. Please try not to use foul language. I have removed the offensive word but otherwise keep your post intact)

Isn't this all a looong way from talking West Ham? Mordant sounds like where you should be mate.

On here you just sound pompous and self opinionated looking for some other poor so and so to inflict your average intelligence views on M

My reply: You can't be "in Mordant" M, it is an adjective mate, not a noun! It isn't the place on the Northern Line! If you want to question my intelligence, don't make yourself look stupid whilst doing it eh?

  18. To the last Anon above: Not at all. There was much mirth surrounding 66's ideas so it was only right to acknowledge that he came up with the plan ahead of Zola!

  19. Fanno, as the the wise sage once said 'I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)'... Don't get involved in politics matey, Northern Ireland compensation etc - The british started the problem invading, pillaging, raping and oppressing people - killing them for talking their own native language - if that isn't facism on par with what the germans did i don't know what is... British, American (Spanish, French & Russian too for good measure) have been immoral throughout history in their dealings with other countries.... Any compensation is the least they can do to make amends for the mess and legacy that they have left in their wake.......

  20. Anon, I know my Irish History thanks. It was actually the Scots who exported Protestantism to Ireland, not the English. I know our history re Ireland is appalling but the Irish weren't saints themselves. Check out what they did to provoke the expedition led by Essex in the 1590s! I would give the whole island to the Irish personally. The division only came about because of threats of terrorism by the Protestants with the "Ulster will fight and Ulster will be right" campaign.

  21. i wasn't a member of mordant org but i spend a while yesterday reading through some of the arguments on theree...

being honest, you are having the same arguments here, nothing to do with West Ham in the slightest.

To bring it all back down to a clarent and blue earth, just because your buddy 66 thinks that Neill should play in central midfield, and Zola has tried it once, does not mean that it is a good option at all. even the right one.

don't forget that for Neill to play there, Parker, Kovac, Collison and Behrami had to be injured. don't also forget that faubert can play in midfield and would probably have been included had he been around.

that makes him 5th or even 6th choice there so your mate hardly came up with a gem did he?

As it happens he had a solid game there, but it was hardly an epifany. his hand was forced and Neill stepped up to the plate.

I can't imagine he will force his way as a regular though

    but well done 66

  22. Agree mate. I suppose it shows the value of Neill, a utility man who can fill a variety of roles. Jack of all trades but master of none perhaps? That said, he has been so much better this season than last and he undoubtedly has leadership qualities. The 66 stuff was tongue in cheek but, to be fair to him, he did make the call.
