Would Duxbury Now Tell Us The Truth?

Apparently Zola is going cap in hand to Inter to beg for the services of Mario Balotelli. Remember, this was the kid we were after at the beginning of the summer, the one Jose had lost patience with and sent back to train with the juniors because his attitude stank. According to Zola, "There's no place for him at Inter and he's a natural talent. He is extroverted and knows his attitude can upset people, but he's intelligent and still learning to handle situations."

Now anybody is better than nobody but do we really believe an 18 year old with an attitude problem is the answer to our goal scoring woes? How many 18 year old strikers take the Premiership by storm exactly? There was a lot of excitement when we secured the services of another teenager, Nouble, but again, can we trust a kid to score the goals we so desperately need? I don't think so. Again, I have to ask, what will we do if Cole joins Ashton in the treatment room? We would be buggered big time!

I derided Duxbury's interviews as mood management at the time and questioned whether he could be trusted. The rosy picture he painted in those stage managed interviews is looking like so much bull at the moment. It is becoming abundantly clear that we are crippled financially and are trying to fill key positions with loan signings because we don't have two millions to rub together. Dear God, Manchester are not the only City who appear cash rich when compared to ourselves: Stoke and Hull seem to have more muscle in the transfer market than we do! That is a truly desperate state of affairs.

I warned readers of this blog that Duxbury was taking them for a ride and pulling the wool over their eyes. I would love to have the opportunity to interview the guy but I doubt he would agree because I wouldn't share the questions with him before hand and would not smile benignly at the pat answers.

Apparently Duxbury and his cronies monitor this blog along with the others. Well, if you are reading this, how about fronting up and giving us the true picture this time Scotty because I, for one, am sick to death with what appears to be deceit!

  1. Duxbury is a snake and he's going to get us relegated. Look, he was the one behind the illegal signings of Mascherano and Tevez. It was him. His mistage has cost us all those millions of pounds. How does he keep his job? He's a damn politician and just like a true politician he found a desperate media form that would let him do a series of softball interviews and lie to us to keep us optimistic for the summer and buy those hideous new kits when they came out. The truth is we've signed Jimenez and that's it. We've maybe lost the former captain, Upson and Green won't make it past January transfer window if we falter and we have one striker, one, who played any substantial first team Premier League level football last season. We are going down and Duxbury is to blame. Grab the torches and pitchforks!

  3. Typical positive attitude - is everything in your world so miserable - perhaps some counselling would help.

  4. Which bit of we have no money until next year as we have to pay for the excesses of BGs benevolent but ultimately borrowed spending spree wasn't understood? If we have no money next year is the time to accuse Duxbury of hiding the truth. Or was everyone hoping he meant we have no money but actually I have a few bob squirrelled away for the knee jerk reaction that will come when we lose a pre season friendly

  6. What part of (taken from the KUMB interview)

"When I say no, we have to fund any player acquisitions from our own trading. So if Gianfranco decides that he wants to sell one of his players and then wants to reinvest that money to buy players then yes, we'll buy a player. But if he wants to keep his current squad as it is and simply add to it then unless certain fringe players are sold - which we hope to do - then we'll structure them as loans with an option to buy. But we will need to sell players before we can buy."

    didn't you understand?

  7. Personally I reckon we've got to tighten our arses and hope to avoid relegation for the next 2 seasons and if we don't sink hope that a buyer is found or the whole premier league goes tits up with us after all it will all dissapear as soon as the European League is set up and when that is done the premier league will have the status that the Blue Square currently occupies

  8. You seem to be overlooking the fact that West Ham is a business and the function of a business is to make money for the shareholders.

In any business confidence is key, and it would be financial suicide for a Chief Exec to openly admit that he has money difficulties.

Of course it’s also important to keep your customers happy too, but don’t forget the most important customer is Sky TV, the fans like us may make some noise, but it cannot compare with the real financial muscle.

So moan all you like about lack of transparency, but if there is trouble behind the scenes, which would hardly be a surprise under the circumstances, then don’t expect to hear about it from the lips of Duxbury!

Similarly if you want to sell a crock, (Ashton), then it would be a bit silly to say openly that he is a crock and surplus to requirements. Better to say he is recovering well, and is an important member of our squad, etc etc…

I agree its frustrating as a fan, but completely understandable from a business perspective.

  9. Hi - whilst making no comment on the author's opinion of various interviews that recently took place with Duxbury I would like he opportunity to correct the implication that the one that took place with kumb.com was, in any way, "stage managed" by Duxbury or the club.

In particular I can confirm that no questions were submitted to the club for approval prior to the interview taking place and nor did Duxbury or anyone at the club request sight of the questions in advance. The first that Duxbury knew of any of the questions were when we asked them (though let's face it he wouldn't have needed to be psychic to guess what some of the questions were likely to be!)

We deliberately placed the interview up as it was and without comment so that the reader could make their own mind up as to what to think.

Obviously I can't speak for Iain Dale whose interview took place later the same day but I'd be very surprised if, having given kumb.com free rein, they suddenly placed restrictions on someone else.

    Thanks.

  10. Gnome, why were more challenging questions not asked then, by neither KUMB nor Ian Dale? Why wasn't the Tevez debacle unpicked? What exactly was Duxbury's role in it all? What about his constantly shifting positions regarding the club's finances? Why wasn't he asked how we could expect to survive without strikers capable of scoring in the Prem? Questions may not have been agreed in advance but certain questions would appear to have been off limits!
