So Behrami has come out and admitted that off field events are affecting performances on the pitch and has also revealed that the players are being kept as much in the dark about what is happening as the fans. Quoted on the BBC website, Behrami has reportedly said:
"I have spoken a number of times with the people above us to make the situation clear and what is the real situation? It is clear that we need to know our future. I am looking for someone in January to help us and (tell us) that we don't have to sell."
Who has Behrami spoken to I wonder? Zola or Clarke? Nani or Duxbury? Bernhardt? And what does he mean by that third sentence? Is he talking about somebody inside the club or is he talking about a take over?
What is clear is that the players are performing in a storm of uncertainty and that is not conducive to optimum performance. If players are wondering who will be sold, are they going to be 100% committed to the cause? If Upson has received a disembarkation pass, won't Parker, Green, Cole and Behrami want one if top clubs make enquiries? The situation is a complete mess and the myth of a unified team pulling together in the same direction has been exploded. If Upson is going, why doesn't somebody come out and say it? At least everybody would feel that the club is being honest.
The trouble is, West Ham have become so embroiled in spin that nobody is now able to tell the truth. There are so many echoes of Blair and New Labour here that I am expecting to hear, at any moment, that Duxbury has a dossier showing that Sullivan and Gold have weapons of mass destruction ready to use at three hours notice!
