West Ham Lose Key Defender

The world of football was rocked today by the news that West Ham were paying their best defender since Bobby Moore £250,000 to bugger off and find another club.

Anybody who saw the classy Davenport in Claret and Blue will be stunned by this news. The bargain £3m signing from Tottenham was allowed to start only 23 times and was forging a brilliant partnership with Matty Upson when his West Ham career was cruelly cut short by Zola's inexplicable decision to drop him, after the 4-1 win away to Portsmouth.

It will surely remain a mystery for as long as the game is played why West Ham only managed to keep a clean sheet twice with Davenport in the team - home games against the mighty Wolves and Rotherham. Equally inexplicable is how the Hammers failed to keep a single clean sheet in the Premiership when Davenport was selected.

The decision to farm Davenport out on loan to Sunderland shocked his army of West Ham admirers at the time, and the attempt to withhold his wages just because he had been charged with assaulting his sister, suggested that the cultured defender was being victimised by the club.

We will surely never see his like again. Poor Calum!

  6. In all seriousness, our first concern should have been whether the person in the plane survived.

  10. It does make you wonder that not even one comment was related to your article about Davenport. Pretty shallow bunch on the games gone crazy. More like a class full of kindergarden kids.

That's not fair. All our comments were about Davenport. We're not shallow, we use metaphors and various other rhetorical devices.....but you had to go mention his name didn't you?
