Zola In Line To Take Over Italy!

There's been an angry response to my spoof report that Zola could take over at Real Madrid. Apparently, although a great manager in the making, it is insulting in some way to link him with the job at Real Madrid, though for the life of me, I can't understand why.

Well truth is stranger than fiction they say, and unless I have been the victim of another spoof, Zola is in the running to manage Italy no less! That seems like a perfect job for him to me. I hope he gets it, then he can turn Italy from a spoiling team into a side playing the beautiful game, with right footers cutting in from the left flank and left footers cutting in from the right. I would cheer his every decision, especially if he achieved the same results as he achieved at West Ham!

  1. THE PROBLEM IS THAT WEST HAM PLAYERS AREN'T AS GOOD AS THE PLAYERS WHO PLAY FOR ITALY. AFTER ALL, THEY ARE THE WORLD CHAMPIONS

  2. So Zola will win the World Cup then!

  3. I'M NOT SAYING THAT. I BELIEVE HIS FOOTBALLING IDEAS WILL WORK BETTER WITH BETTER PLAYERS. IT'S HARDER TO GET A WORLD CLASS PERFORMANCE OUT OF MIDO THAN OUT OF PIRLO

  5. That's the point, Zola was too stupid or too pig headed to understand that. His tactics were all wrong given the quality of players he was working with. If you have beef mince, onions, carrots and bisto, you don't try to make a Christmas cake!

  6. No HF, he was trying to improve them.

  7. You don't improve players by playing them out of position, without any sense of team shape do you? How, exactly, was he improving Daprela by throwing him in against Arsenal twice, Chelsea and Man City but leaving him out against Fulham? Explain Stani, please! How was Hines helped by being played up front on his own? How was Spector being helped by being played out of position game after game? How was Nouble helped by being played as a lone striker at such a tender age? How was Sears helped by being played up front without support against Huth and Wheater? Why did he destroy Etherington's confidence by playing him out of position? How did he help Ilan by playing him wide when he is clearly unsuited to the position? What has happened to Noble since Zola has been our manager? Did he actually improve Cole? Why has Behrami gone backwards as a player? Did he help Tomkins by leaving him in the firing line for too long?

Tell me Stani, which players did Zola improve? Faubert possibly. But apart from Faubert? Name me one.

  10. You bblame Zola I blame duxbury as he employed the rookie. No rookie in their right mind would turn down a job like west ham so it is not his fault he wasnt up to the job. HF you will never admit you are wrong its just easier to slag everybody else off a bit like Gordon Brown. Thank god the colaition is here to sort the country out and get rid of the labour twats. Bit like you never wrong. Go get yourself laid man and chill

  11. I'm not blaming Zola on this thread, I'm saying he might be the next Italy manager! Is Duxbury in charge of the Azzurri now? I wondered what had happened to him!

  14. HF,
I said he was trying to improve them and not that he did as some were just too rubbish to work on. Nevertheless, it is not only Faubert who showed signs of improvement under him. Tristan, Cole, Faubert, Parker, Hines, Diamanti (work ethic and defensive side) and Kovac have all improved under Zola.

As for playing them out of position, well he hardly had a choice much of the time. We've discussed the Stanislas situation and the evidence is clear as to why he was played on the left. Diamanti likes to cut inside and shoot, as we have also discussed on many occasions. This is the main reason he is our 2nd top scorer as on the left flank he would not be able to go for goal so easily. I would have played Daprela instead of Spector but since he was a kid, maybe Zola wanted some experience at left back so fair enough. He was chucked in against Arsenal, Chelsea because we simply had no other option due to injuries.

This was also the case with Hines. When Hines was played up on his own, we had a injury crisis to our strikers. I absolutely disagree though, that this experience did not help Hines even if it was more through necessity than judgement. This was also the case with Nouble.

I dont think Sears can be helped into a premiership striker.
Destroy Etherington's confidence? He's a gambler who is not even that good. He had to go. He has had a average season with Stoke which has been exaggerated.

I think Ilan was played wide only twice. Once as a part of a game formation of 3 attackers and the other to protect points nearer the end of the game for a few minutes. EVERY other time he has played as part of a two man strike force. This Ilan out wide is an exaggeration also.

Noble has always been average and Zola has favoured him and Tomkins too often as I have said many times before. But, most our fans who criticise Zola would have picked them two anyway.

Of course he improved Cole. Cole said so. You cant disagree with him HF.

Behrami has not gone backwards. He has always been a good engine and that's about it.
