Beware A Sense Of Achievement If We Crash Out On Sunday
There is a real danger that, should we go out on Sunday, our team will be heralded brave and unlucky losers. We got further in the tournament than Italy and France, the Capello apologists will say, and were unlucky to play Germany in the last 16.
The truth is, if we are heading home on Monday, then the campaign would have been nothing short of disastrous. Not quite as disastrous as Italy's and France's campaigns, it is true, but disastrous none the less.
Our group was pathetically weak and we should have breezed through it, not limped over the finishing line after the USA had puffed out their chests and broken the tape ahead of us. We have scored just two goals in three games against second rate opposition and could easily have drawn that final game against Slovenia.
Even if we beat Germany, we face the prospect of playing Argentina in the quarter final. Why? Because we played so poorly in the group games. So even a glorious defeat in that game will be because of utter incompetence up until this point.
To redeem themselves, Capello and the boys have to go all the way. And, as I've been saying for over 18 months now, we are going to win this World Cup. And boy, I will really enjoy telling you lot that I told you so when we do!
Beware of positive thinking!!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunantly HF this is one time where you won't be able to say ''I told you so''.

England has achieved nothing because they were in the easiest group of all and they almost didn't qualify. The real test begins now. I would be very pleasantly surprised if England eliminate Germany. I will not hold my breath though. Prediction: Germany wins 2-1.
ReplyDeleteHF! Will you stop moaning! We're gonna have to beat the best teams to win the cup anyway. I know it's not gonna happen, as I've been telling you for a while now, but it's not because of the route or side of the draw we're in, it's because we rarely play fluid football and don't score enough.
ReplyDeleteWhat nonsense Stani. The point about cup competitions is that you can progress through WITHOUT meeting a top team. One of Paraguay or Slovakia will now be in the World Cup quarter final. Whoever plays the winner of that gets a virtual bye to the semifinal. For an intelligent guy, you do talk out of your arse sometimes. Remember Germany in South Korea? Ordinary German team but an easy route through enabled them to make it to the final. United States in Quarter Final, South Korea in Semifinal, Paraguay in the last 16 game. Bloody cake walk! They didn't have to beat Argentina or Brazil or Spain or Italy on their way through did they? So, you are talking crap.
ReplyDeleteI've got that wrong. Two weak teams meet in next round, who are they?
ReplyDeleteTo win the world cup you need to beat some of the best teams; you always sound scared HF, what is the problem - did you hope we'd get there by playing the worst and weakest teams, not hardly cricket is it? getting to the World Cup Final is about playing and hopefully beating the best! grow up and try a develop a stiff upper lip you yellow livered moaning old spineless phony.
ReplyDeleteC.O.E!!!
0436, the key phrase is "some of the best teams"; Capello has increased the number of the best teams we have to beat. That is stupid! But I have been consistent in saying we will win the World Cup so your claim is silly anyway.
ReplyDeleteThanks Green you toss pot
ReplyDeleteHF, you are such a jinx.
ReplyDeleteYou bought a mini season ticket to see West Ham and it all went pear shaped from that moment on; save that we were rescued by the inabilities of others.
Now, with your bet of Newcastle to go down coupled with England to win the WC, I can see nothing but tears. No matter how you try to big it up, wish for or otherwise dream of an England win, it's a 'fait accompli' for us I'm afraid.
We're probably just about capable of battling out a win over Germany on Sunday. We're evenly matched with them in terms of talent but Rooney or Gerrard could prove to be the difference.
ReplyDeleteIf (big IF) we do win that's when the real problems start. Argentina are on a different planet to us. Can't see how we'd beat them in a million years!
But that don't make sense HF. If we don't meet a good team then that means we will be meeting the team that beat that good team. Hence, you cannot win a cup competition without tough competition.
ReplyDeleteWe would not beat Slovakia on current form.
South Korea beat Portugal in their group. They then beat Spain and Italy to reach the semi with Germany so how can you say Germany had it easy playing the conquerors of Portugal, Spain and Italy?
You're just getting your excuses ready because deep down you are in touch with the harsh reality that the England team is simply not good enough. But, being the stubborn codger you are, you don't want to admit it.
I can see you continuously moaning and complaining about Capello ad nauseum when we get knocked out HF. This doesn't mean you ignore the facts, of course not, but we're simply not very good at this game currently. Look at the South American teams, every single one of them has been better than us.
Who would you rather we play Germany or Japan? at least you know where you are with Germany.
ReplyDeleteI care not a jot for the game - I'm just looking forward to barrage of plastic chairs being thrown at the cowering German fans when we lose on penalties - hahaha just a joke - don't tank it too seriously of course England will win, just hope Rooney doesn't play as he hasn't scored for England in competition since 2004
ReplyDeleteThis blog moves at the speed of a tortoise.... and all because HF is a bit thin skinned, doesn't have a sense of humour and has gone "it's my ball and I'm going to play with it"
ReplyDelete1357, if you are referring to the moderator facility, it was at the request of others, tired of the swearing and childishness.
