The Bobby Moore Story
Watching the Booby Moore story as I type this and I've just seen Mike Summerbee in tears as he tried to talk about the great man. Strange, I never liked Summerbee as a player, there was something about him that got up my nose for some reason but now...well I have huge respect for the guy! Dennis Law has paid tribute so far and so have Tarbuck and Michael Caine and now Venables is chipping in...and now George Best (from beyond the grave!).
A little clip now of Moore playing football with and talking to thalidomide kids. Everybody of my generation has memories of Moore. I've recounted before my personal memories, including when I met him in person. He was a wonderful man and quite simply, the greatest defender ever to play in England, arguably in the world. A special man and talent.

unfortunately i never see the great bobby moore play. but just going by what my family and friends have said to me and by watching some of the old clips on tv he was great. just wish i could have seen the great man live at upton park. easily the greatest ever defender of all time. rest in peace bobby always. lets hope england and west ham can make you proud in the near future. i no you will be looking down and watching. ps it only seems like yesterday when i went to upton park v wolves with me mum just before bobby passed away with all the flowers on the main gates. i was only 13 but that was one of only a couple of times ive seen my mum cry. that showed me how much this great man ment to people. they dont make footballers like him no more.
Just after he died actually. I was there. 3-1 from memory.
The man was a common theif.
Every fibre in my being wanted to moderate out that comment but as it is neither racist nor pornographic, I have had to allow it through. Your comment was made anonymously, typically. Moore could never have done anything anonymously, greatness exuded from his every pore.
Bit harsh but yes he like the old stolen gold.
He was a theif though was he not????
Yes, he stole the ball off the toes of opponents, he stole the show every time he took to the field, he stole the heart of everybody he met, he even stole my joy at West Ham winning the FA Cup in 1975 because the only man I ever loved apart from my father was in the Fulham side. Yes Booby Moore was a thief, he stole greatness from out of the humble roots of Barking, he stole glory for England in the World Cup final and he stole pride for the East End of London. Sadly cancer proved the bigger thief in the end, but Bobby even stole the best part of 30 years from out of the trouser pocket of the Big C. Yep Bobby Moore was a thief if you like. Happy?
No he wasn't a thief we all know he took the wrap for Charlton!!
P.S. Summerbee got up your nose just like you get up everyone else's HF
Taking the rap. And it was Astle allegedly.
anon 22:10 people like you should not be allowed to comment on such a great man like bobby was. you are a idiot and bobby is a legend. says it all really. do you know how much bobby moore means to people in the east end. and not just the east end but all over the world. if thats how you think then you should keep your stupid comment to yourself you div. bobby moore is a legend. and im sure any proper fan would agree.
yeah sorry my mistake i said just before. i ment just after bobby died. yeah i was in the north bank with me mum. i also remember geoff hurst and martin peters i think it was bringing a big west ham shirt on to the pitch just before kick off. and as the match went. i remember going 1 nil down and then coming back to win 3-1 with matty holmes scoreing the 3rd at my end. the north bank.
I was on the North Bank too. West Ham 3 Wolves 1. The days before Zola picked the team!
how much would bobby moore be worth nowadays. priceless. an absolute legend.
How much would he earn today?
Before my time unfortunately. Would have liked to watch him. You ever see Franco Baresi HF? How would you compare the two?
Imagine Spector in comparison to Rio in his prime! Baresi was a cynical bastard; Moore was a craftsman. He and Beckenbauer took defending to a new level and both were sublime passers of a football as well as brilliant defenders.
I have only ever seen the great man play once and that was in a charity event many many years after he gave up playing but what a man. I have THE PICTURE of God and Pele on the wall at home and when all these players are acting like morons on millions of pounds a year it is sad to think this great man was allowed to leave our club for the sake of £2. Glad you left that comment in HF as I was having a bit of a slow morning and now I feel like taking on the world after reading that. Got to be a Spud. Is it only me or does anyone else get the tear in the eye at the Carlsberg Ad with God looking down from on High? (I know it is meant to be stairs but I am sure that the meaning behind it is God is looking down on these mere mortal players.
I used to know his son and daughter, Dean and Roberta and the first wife Tina. When I was about 18 I spent and evening round their house while the parents where away... a big party. There was a glass case with all the caps in and for the whole night I wore the 66 cap on my head whilst pissed..... there was also that famous picture of him hugging Pele signed by the great man and also a bronze of Pele too in the living room.
I remember the match. Steve Bull scored for Wolves and Matty Holmes and Peter Butler scored for the hammers. Bonzo was the manager at the time. Funny how his middle name though was Chelsea
all together now...♫Viva Bobby Moore, viva Bobby Moore♪...
Wow T.O., and Roberta looks a bit tasty!
Yeah she was and the mum too, she married a fella called Matt and I tell you one thing he's always got a smile on his face.........
I have to concur. He was a thief. I have no respect for thieves.
