High Fives For Avram's Boys!

Another game, another win, and another Carlton Cole goal. That's four in five for Carlton. Avram has looked at Milton Caraglio and apparently wasn't too impressed. Remy obviously doesn't want to join us so I think we would be mad to replace Cole. He will go into the new season brimming with confidence and striving to win back his England place. Why on earth would he agree to go to Stoke City even if Sullivan and Gold wanted to sell him?

A 1-0 win at Ipswich isn't an amazing result but, yet again, we have kept a clean sheet. Ben Haim looks likely to join so we now only need a full back and a reserve striker to have the full squad that Avram is looking for. I fancy a loan signing or two over the next week personally.

The Parker issue remains. Avram said again that he is going nowhere but I thought he paused when asked what would happen if a really big offer came in. I have predicted that Parker will go and my money is still on that happening but, I must admit, that I wouldn't want to sit down at a poker table with Grant.

If we ignore the substitutions, we again see Grant using a 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 formation with Cole leading the line, Faubert and Dyer in midfield and Tomkins at right back. This formation / personnel has been used so often that you have to think this is what Grant has in mind as his first choice line up, perhaps with Barerra accommodated in place of either Boa Morte or Dyer. Disappointingly, Noble didn't start. Upson only lasted 23 minutes which is worrying. Hopefully his injury isn't serious.

Anyway, the Upson withdrawal apart, it is all good news again! If we can keep this going until the season's big kick off, we should take the field brimming with confidence. What a difference a couple of months makes! Are you watching Zola?

  1. Nice article, although nto sure I agree with needing a reserve striker to be honest. I think with Cole Piquonne? and McCarthy, along with Sears, Nouble and Montano I think it would be foolish to crowd that department. Would be nice if we could get a full-back who can play on either side, two birds with one stone :)

  2. Sorry T.I.S. I have to disagree - I think we need someone else - if Cole goes down with an injury of heaven forbid another club we need some class

  3. Great article. Things are sure looking good for the new season. I agree we should keep Cole but another striker would be good to.

  4. BONNART of MARSEILLE a full back is supposed to be in the pipe-line............ I think a winning mentality is beginning to be built by GRANT,and confidence must certainly be growing.I still am none the wiser as to what eleven GRANT most favours. In midfield there is plenty of cover as well as on the wings.Up front I would like to see a top forward come on board, to go straight in the line-up,as well as a quality defender who can play both on the right and left sides. Probably have a much better idea of GRANT'S preferred line-up and formation next SATURDAY against DEPORTIVO.

  16. How good is Cole looking? I'm glad we have not sold him and replaced him with some premier league unknown like Remy.

I think Grant tip-toed around the question when he was asked about if a big offer came in from Parker. Journalist was on the mark though....sounded like a West Ham fan.

Are you saying he's poker faced HF? Far from! He can't help the little grins. He did the same when he was Pompey manager last season and was being asked about the Hammers job.

I know you think Noble will come good but I don't think he will.

What a difference a couple of months makes? A lot has changed in that time HF. You can't make intentionally indiscreet statements like that when you clearly know better.

  17. If the club can buy a top striker I think we'll do fine this year - top 10 and a decent cup run...
I think within a few years we'll be challenging for a top 6 position..

  18. Hammersfan, first time i have left a post, great site, love the way you incite debate.
I often disagree with you, but there are always 2 sides to every argument.

Have a feeling Parker will definately stay, for the first time in a long time, he is fit, loved and playing the best football of his career, and above all appreciated by the most loyal fans in the world.

    Keep it up!

  19. Me or Parker mate? Thanks! I'd stilll sell him for anything about £10m personally. I cant believe Kevin Prince-B is still at Pompey! Younger, stronger, scores more goals.

  20. Barerra? Whose Barerra. Dos Santos got in the Mexico starting line up and hes a Tottenham reserve.

Doesn't say much about the Mexico team does it? More importantly (again) it doesn't say much about Tottenham. £8 million for a reserve player? good business fella!

  21. So the Spuds (West Ham wannabes) assigned our dodgy cast off manager. Signed Gudjohnson want Parker. Exspressed interest in going to the Olympic stadium and playing in the east end. Now they are comenting on a West Ham site???? ......How badley do you wannabe us???????????
I dont even know any Spud sites and I wouldnt waste prescious time reading let alone commenting on them.

Great piece HF UP THE HAMMMERS COYI

  22. Agree about Parker. We have sufficient cover in midfield to let him go IF the price is right.
KPB would be a good replacement or Jamie O'Hara(where is he now?)
The main priority must be at full back.JT was pants yesterday until he moved into the middle when Upson went off.
I like the Dyer/Faubert combo on the right hand side but neither of those is a full back. Can you imagine Dyer even thinking about a 50/50 challenge?
Love Diamante in left midfield but to express yourself as these guys can you've got to have strong cover at the back.
    Luke Young anybody?
