We were not the best of mates and crossed swords regularly on the Org, but I know how much Bill (WesthamtilIdie) would have loved that game. He was, of course, West Ham through and through, but if one thing came close to equaling his love for West Ham (and his family), it was his loathing for everything Tottenham Hotspur.
He would have been delighted by the result and even more so by the way we played Tottenham off the park. Sadly, being an atheist, I don't think Bill is anywhere in the universe to revel in the victory but if you can read this, I raised a glass to you tonight sir. Shame we waited until you shuffled off this mortal coil before we mashed those Spuds good and proper!
Well said HF, R.I.P friend.
ReplyDeleteNice touch Fanno. It was a great game and a great result for us yesterday and I know Bill would have been looking down with a big smile.
ReplyDeleteHow are things the Reverand? Little A buzzing and happy after yesterday, not cursing his father for inflicting this cruel life long disease of supporting West Ham upon him? Glad your selfish wish of a cup drawer away to Newcastle didn't come true! Presumably you were at the Sunderland game?
ReplyDeleteWell said Fanno, Bill had Westham imprinted into his very dna & would have loved yesterday.

Settle for agnosticism, Hammersfan. Atheism doesn't suit a man with wisdom and admirable sentiments for past West Ham supporters who might just be enjoying the team's victory.
ReplyDeleteHow are things Pete? I've lost your mobile number - it was on a PC that crashed and a mobile phone that died. Drop me an email if you have a mind to at address on right hand panel. Would be good to get to a game together or have a beer. Hope the family are well and the new job is going fine. Ever finish that fence?
ReplyDeleteAussiefan - Agnosticism is for wimps! It's like supporting West Ham and Tottenham at the same time!
ReplyDeleteWell said Fanno. My sentiments entirely.
ReplyDeleteKnew you would share the sentiment mate, even though Bill didn't even see you as a person in your own right! Heady days. The Org has lost so many characters and is a pale shadow of what it once was sadly. Grumpy is still moaning about Cole I see, and delmonte is sitting on his "Please endorse" throne and becoming more pompous by the day, but there have been so many defections and the replacements just are not of the same calibre. Even Flappers has lost his voice since getting a job! Shame. Fareham was stirring the hive nicely but I suspect Nev showed a yellow card. Sound too much like Fanno and...
ReplyDeleteIf Nixon of Dock Green had handled it properly he had a winner on his hands; there was a vibrancy and quality about the Org. in those days that I miss. At the height of the "in fighting" I actually contacted the club with the intention of booking the ground for the "play off" match that had been mooted and then inviting offers to play. Unfortunately the club were intransigent about booking numbers, so I let it pass. I often think it would have been a great idea!
ReplyDeleteThe problem was the Klan mate, and sadly Bill, bless him, was one of them. There was, as we know an orthodoxy and an inner sanctum that you were not allowed to cross. A shame. I feel for delmonte and Aycliffe, they try so hard to prompt intelligent debate but it rarely moves above the grunting level.
ReplyDeleteFareham is a good contributor when not trying to sound like Churchill but he has slipped into the "We will fight them on Green Street and Wapping High Street" mode of late which is all a little tiresome. The Aussies still chip in but they don't get up until midnight!
You know what davefking will say before he says it and, sadly, the "all licensed Fool", OSP has largely abandoned his Lear. As a result, the site now lacks humour, wit (in the true sense of the word), intelligence and genuine debate. I look in and usually leave very disappointed. Remember the days of Marty, Fanno, OSP, WHTID, Aycliffe, delmonte, Mrs Lucas Neill, Jack Collison, MEH, Irons Germany, Westham66 and so many others...the place positively buzzed and bristled and rocked and convulsed in laughter at times. Now, it is bland pedestrain stuff. I can't believe that davefking and delmonte really prefer it this way, even though both hate having their opinions challenged.
Check out Mr Delmonte's thread on you.
ReplyDeleteWell said HF...sadly missed but not forgotten in the land of the cyber-supporter.
ReplyDeleteCheers Isaac and thanks for your endorsement. I agree with all you said but you forgot, "big headed arrogant cnut!"
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine davefking if I returned? LOL Bloody Grumpy? He would become Infuriated Apoplectic Outraged overnight. He would blow a fuse and self immolate.
It is good of del to run the thread and I appreciate the support given (but there was no personal attack on Grumpy - I just attacked his unjustified attack on Cole). As much as I would love to lock horns with old friends - and sorry I forgot to mention you mate in the roll call - I think my wife would throw me out. I spend too much time on "that bloody blog" as it is! I do think the site desperately needs "a Fanno" and I would genuinely like to see it pumping as in the old days, but I don't think Nev would agree and I'm not sure I am the right man to help out anyway. There are too many people who genuinely believe that I mean everything I say, too many people who think I really am a nasty piece of work. Truth is, I do laugh at myself and the one thing I utterly detest is pomposity. Sadly, the site has now divided between pomposity and belligerence with not a lot in between. It misses the old banter badly. Bring back Marty, get OSP contributing as of old, contribute more yourself Isaac, track down westham66 - he must be in a loony bin somewhere foaming at the mouth and muttering Boa Morte is better than Ronaldo and Messi combined - put out an appeal to Flappers, encourage Fareham to be more controversial...
There are genuinely no ill feelings at this end. Life is too short. I actually like davefking - he is a miserable cnut but he knows his West Ham, even if he doesn't understand the importance of Cole and Anton!
I wouldn't presume to say I would decline an invitation to return - I can return whenever I like under an assumed name of course - but I enjoy just looking in and running articles on here. If I said I would be pleased to help if I could, that would be taken but some as arrogant, but I mean it.
By the way, I think Fareham should acknowledge that I gave him his right to reply and I think the charge that I moderate out dissident opinion should be retracted by Bondsy because it is not true.
Anyway, all the best to everybody. And I meant everything I said about Bill.
If you are still on I don't think you are one of the main players so reveal yourself. You have endorsements from most of the top orgsters and if the likes of OSP and Aycliffe support your return them no matter what Grumpy says you will be given a chance.
