Grant's Judgement is Perfect!
Well he picked an odd team but, credit where credit is due, Avram made some inspired substitutions tonight and we came through as deserved winners. A second goal for Obinna should do wonders for the boy's confidence, whilst the pairing of Tomkins and Da Costa showed promise, after the 6th minute of the game.
The biggest plus was, again, the performance of Noble. His contribution for Da Costa's goal was, by all accounts brilliant and, after his belated introduction, he was again pulling all the strings in midfield. First half against Newcastle, he was brilliant and I posted a couple of games back that he had rediscovered his old form. We may just have an England midfielder on our hands here after all!
However, McBenni had a mare again. What a waste of money he is proving to be. And Carlton One Goal was unable to add to his one yard mishit against Newcastle.
What the hell. We are in the next round and Wembley beckons. Please God let Man Utd draw Arsenal in the next round!
And talking Arsenal, their 4-0 victory at Newcastle put our dreadful performance on Saturday into context and does not bode well for our next game!
I'm guessing you're just a keyboard bandit who doesn't actually go to games, just obsesses about the club from afar?
ReplyDeleteTomkins was Championship quality at best all night.
We need points on the board real bad. Barring a miracle these will not come next Saturday. But let's enjoy the win. If we get a good draw we can be in the semis and the then anything is possible. I just hope Grant will not make a repeat of last year with Pompey where he got them to the final and relegated!
ReplyDeleteyeah Tonka was not up to scratch at all and even Da Costa would not have escaped criticism if it wasn't for his goal. Parker and Faubert also played very well. You wouldn't get that from the highlights though
ReplyDeleteStech was good last night and didn't have a chance with the goal. I think he deserves an extended run in the side
ReplyDelete23:49 has a point you know. You don't go to the games, you have no connection to the club - yet it clearly is the only thing in your life. It and this little blog seems to be an extraordinarily unhealthy obsession of yours.
ReplyDeleteGet out a bit, find an interest, start a blog about something you're qualified to write about. You are a blight on West Ham and their fans - a bigger one than Benni.
Fanno did you watch the game via a video feed or listen to the bbc audio comm?
ReplyDeleteFrom what I could make of the BBC comm it sounded like the defence in its entirety was having abit of a nightmare. No change there?
0955, you are right.. Wife has undergone major surgery which has sort of put my life on hold. We were planning to go to the game yesterday but did not seem appropriate in the circumstances. Bloddy hell, putting your family ahead of a fottball game, Shankley would turn in his grave! Still, if Avram can miss a match against Stoke to atone...
ReplyDeleteI was at the game and thought da Costa was outstanding throughout
ReplyDeleteObviously the goal was classic Jones and I haven't seen a replay but I feel that Tomkins was marking him (may be wrong as I was at the other end of the Rio stand.)
Parker magnificent throughout until he just ran out of puff and Noble came on at just the right time to take over.Stech looked confident,Faubert looked good going forward and linked up well with Barrera who's final ball was disappointing until he set up Super Scott.
Cole started off looking wooden but improved as the game went on.
Macarthy was awful.
Ben Haim looked solid and Boa was...well, Boa.
No idea what Kovac was supposed to be doing but whatever it was it was ineffective.
Wembley, here we come!!
John V P
Tomkins had a very good game.
ReplyDelete"And talking Arsenal, their 4-0 victory at Newcastle put our dreadful performance on Saturday into context and does not bode well for our next game!"
ReplyDeleteNo it doesn't. That was a different Newcastle team than we played and a different Arsenal team than will play on Saturday. If that game puts our result in perspective then surely our win over Stoke does just as much, if not more.
Agree with the rest of the post mind!
LOL 1354, Arsenal will field a STRONGER team at the weekend, so that's reassuring then!
ReplyDeleteYou mention future England call up, HF - they had better hurry up, as our Evening papers are plastered with rumours of a possible declaration for Ireland, his eligibility based on having Irish grandparents. Please note as yet there are no official confirmations from either side - Bring it on! Irish Hammers would relish an Irish International from our beloved team.
ReplyDeleteNo chance mate, I have it on very good authority that Nobes hasn't laid so much as one square yard of tarmac in his life!
ReplyDeleteLast time I will comment. I did not expect such racism from you.
ReplyDeleteOh dear oh dear DIF, I thought the Irish had a sense of humour!
ReplyDeletehahahaha joke! what about Mr West Ham...... you obviously didn't go - lucky they didn't follow your advice and get rid of him - we'd be in a much much worse place....
ReplyDeleteTypical racism... we know who your kids take over now.
ReplyDeleteWho are we talking about, Noble or Parker?
