Green's Rehabilitation All Too Sudden!

So Green could go from zero to potential hero in virtually no time whatsoever. But on the back of what? Yes he made a brilliant save against Spurs although, unlike Cudicini in the same game, he didn't need the help of the bar to keep the ball out. And yes, he played well against Fulham, making two good saves to add to a couple of good uns against Spurs. But it is only a couple of games since West Ham fans were clamouring for Green to be rested from first team duty.

Three years ago, when the bandwagon for Green to be selected for England got properly into gear on the West Ham boards, I cautioned that his selection might not be to the benefit of the club. I warned then that Green was not international quality and that a bad error playing for England could destroy his fragile confidence. And lo and behold, cometh the World Cup and so the prediction of Fanno came to pass, and Green's club form did nosedive in consequence.

Now, all is forgotten it seems. Or more accurately, Capello has run out of options because Robinson has told the Italian where to stuff his recall and Carson is crap. So, with nowhere else to turn, Fabio has reverted to Green.

So what, you might ask, he isn't going to be picked is he? Well, the trouble there is that Foster is as fragile as a champagne flute in a tumble dryer and Hart may just pull up lame too. If Green is rushed back into the spotlight too soon, I fear a repeat.

If he was genuinely international quality, I would be delighted to see Green back. But he isn't. No good  can come of this I fear: not for Green, not for England and not for West Ham.

  1. I personally think, when he is fully confident he is international class. Maybe if Capello hadn't waited until 2 hours before the match that Green was no.1 things would have been different.

Support your own, don't stab them in the back...

  2. Or alternatively, if you care, don't encourage somebody to over reach himself and fall flat on his face in consequence!

  3. I don't think we should really complain HF. Firstly, he won't play as Hart is number one and chances of him and Foster being injured are slim. And secondly, he'll gain a bit of confidence from being called up again after his errors. This will only be to West Ham's benefit when he comes back.

  4. You are very ill man... the papers don't tend to let off world cup under archivers lightly - and in case you haven't noticed they've all mentioned his recent "WORLD Class" saves.

You are the blogging equivalent of sick and depraved pervert and I am always left wondering what is your problem?

  5. I think Green deserves a recall.

It is however a very sad day for English football, the day that the "butcher" Kevin Davies was picked by Capello. Leaving aside the fact that Davies is totally without any technical skill (it is all physical), Capello is forgetting one very important thing. It is not English referees that referee the England games. The prospect of seeing England playing with 10 men has therefore significantly increased.

Morever, Capello decided to drop Kevin's latest victim (Upson) the very day he decided that Davies is an asset for the England team. It is really disgraceful and very sad that England has to resort to the same tactics that kept Bolton in the Premier League the past 10 years or so.

  6. Why do so many people leave negative comments? If you don't agree, big deal. If HF annoys you to the point you have the urge to type out a meaningless rant, maybe you should be thinking "what action am I expecting HF to take from reading this?" because he's not going to do exactly what you say is he... More to the point, if you don't like what you read, why not just stop reading it from now on. It's like reading a crap book and moaning all the way through it, having not put it down once..

By the way, I realise this is one of those meaningless rants, I'm waiting in the van for the site to open up lol.

Just annoying coming across the odd mug when you're trying to read/participate in debate (I know I don't participate much lol)
