Time to snap up O'Neill before Newcastle make their move

Yesterday was a nightmare. With optimism pumping on the back of a string of promising performances, we all came back to earth with a bump, and earth is rock bottom in the Premiership. Until yesterday we kidded ourselves that it was a false position. Until yesterday we pointed to Piquionne, Obinna and Barerra. Until yesterday we put our position down to a run of difficult fixtures. Until yesterday we said there must be three weaker teams in the division. Until yesterday a couple of wins would see us climb the table.

Who was it that wrote that song, "Yesterday, all our troubles seemed so far away?"

Before yesterday, there was talk of Hughton losing his job. He will probably still be shown the door before the end of the year and that makes it vital that we make our move now.

But hang on, I am an apologist for Grant. I have argued that we should back him. And I still rate the guy, far more than I rate Zola. But there is somebody available at the moment, somebody with a tasty track record, somebody who would get into the faces of our lazy, over paid primadonnas like a swarm of hornets at a Buckingham Palace garden party. Martin O'Neill is out of work!

He will be in charge of Newcastle before the end of the season if we don't make our move now. He may tell us to take a running jump anyway, preferring to wait for the Newcastle job. But, if there is any chance whatsoever of landing him, we should try. Under O'Neill we would not go down.

But would Sullivan and O'Neill be able to work together? It would certainly be entertaining for as long as it lasted!

  3. I cannot for the life of me see O'Neill accepting any offer from us. I try to calm myself by saying that if we could survive losses to Wolves and Stoke at home last year, and we all thought we were DONE after that, we can still survive this. But I'm gutted.

  4. The davids would never sign a manager who is his own man.

    stani was right about Grant

  6. Like the players no manager with any pedigree will touch us mid season. Reckon Pardew might though.

  9. Sorry to hear that your "long suffering" has been taken ill, I hope the surgery went well and that she is recovering in comfort. I know you won't be surprised that I don't do prayers, but my thoughts are with you and your family and I hope she makes a full recovery. I have not been able to share your recent optimism and yesterdays debacle came as no surprise; a shame the lads couldn't have delivered what I'm sure would have been a much needed filip. Can't see O'Neill coming to us, but I share your sentiment. I'd go for Pardew myself, or if not... Curbishley. Isn't that where we came in? Good luck and best wishes to your wife.

  12. I would still prefer to have Pardew back to be honest. O'Neill would definitely fall out with Sulli were he to actually accept the offer and if that were to happen in the back end of the season it could be more crippling than just keeping Grant.

Pardew is exactly what we need. He can find quility players on a budget and gets the team motivated and playing exciting, attacking football. We might ship a few goals but we would score plenty more too and hopefully, we can start competing in the cups again as well as securing at least mid table security.

  13. No way !.O'Neil's style of football would never be acceptable at the academy of football, his teams play hoofball not football !.I personally would go for Martin Jol,a good manager whoese teams play good football.I believe the club COULD prize him a way from Ajax if they really wanted to.But sadly one has to be realistic, does one seriously believe that the 'Messaihs' would be prepared to invest in someone of Jol's calibre ?.Of course not !.No Sir, these 'fans' may WELL go for Pardew offer him £600000 per season (saving &400000)in the proccess as they are paying Grant a million a season and 'sex'his appointment up with the help of their mates amongst the media whores. The usual bullshit :we believe in British managers !,'Alan' was unjustly sacked blah blah !.Forgetting that whatever football club Pardew has been at things have always ended the same .The sack for off field discretions. Some look at his reign with misty eyes now,his teams DID have a 'go',playing with plenty of pace,BUT they relied soley on Yossi Benanyoun for creativty and when he was not playing or was off form, their was no plan B to change things round.I think the problem is closer to home. For the good of West Ham United football club,Avram Grant has GOT to replace Robert Green with big Ruud Boffin.IMMEDIATELY ,NOT to do so is relegation suicide. Our progress on the field is being stunted by POOR goalkeeping.Happy 'clappers'and 'disciples' of truth deep down both know that we have played some good football, but are paying the price for Robert Green's continous presence in goal,by conceeding goals and dropping points ,remaining rooted at the bottom of the table it because of it.Time to wield the axe and quickly Avram !.We're more than a football club,we're a way of life !COYI !!

  14. Hi Fareham mate, you well? You've been quiet on the Org too. Ticker or holiday?

I disagree with you re O'Neill. He was raised by Clough and he is certainly not a hoof and hope merchant. What he likes is strength up front and at the back, and pace down the flanks. I like that too! Under Jol, we might go down. Under Grant we might go down. Under Pardew we might go down. Under O'Neill, we definitely wouldn't!

Think you are being a bit harsh on Green here. True he cost us against Wolves but he wasn't at fault against Newcastle was he? Da Costa still had his mind on that bird in Faces it seemed to me.

As for Pardew, I think you are being VERY unfair. He got the VERY best out of players. Sheringham's career was extended. Harewood looked like a Prem player. Etherington was excellent. Reo-Coker played so well that O'Neill paid £8m for him! Zamora was reborn. Konchesky won an England cap. Ferdinand looked class. And so it goes on.

The reason for his departure from Southampton is still a bit of a mystery isn't it? And he paid the price for previous follies when trying to arrest the decline at Charlton surely? Good record at Reading and poached by ourselves so no whiff of female juices there.

So, along with Chunky, I'd be happy to have Pardew back, perhaps with Grant moved upstairs?

  15. Fanno all's well! ,your side ?!.I've been on holiday but back and raring to go !.I just can't see the 'Messaihs' appointing O'Neil, they simply wouldn't spend the money.I've not been over impressed with his style of football, granted he has an aura of authority about him.As for Pardew ,yes his teams did have a go but,but things rarely are the same the second time round are they Fanno ?.He was over reliant on Yossi for creativity the first time round .It has been 'alleged' down here on the south coast that he had a couple of 'liasons' with players wives...familar territory .HOWEVER ..i wouldn't totally rule out Pardew, should God forbid,we drop out out of the PL and Armageddon become a reality,I would much prefer our chances of getting straight back up under Pardew than Grant quite frankly.I've backed Grant and we've played some good football, but we are rooted at the bottom.Im not a sack 'em type fan but with all our financial woes, and the consequences of relegation to ghastly to contemplate.I can see the board ,in the words of Eggy 'cutting'good ol' Avram's throat ,even as soon as after the Arsenal game ,if the performance is particurlarly bad. Then i can well see Pardew move into the frame, his teams being prepared to have a 'go',and should we go down, Pardew already being in position to get us straight back up on a shoe string budject !.We are more than a football club,we're a way of life !,COYI !!.
