Well it was always going to happen wasn't it? Before the window closed, I was warning that we were short of a quality central defender. When Upson was named as a substitute for the Birmingham game, I said it was madness, warning that we had Da Costa on the bench as double cover. Little did I suspect that Tomkins would pull out before kick off, exacerbating the problem and increasing the risk. It was no surprise when Upson pulled up lame.
HE is not everyone's favourite player but there is no doubt he will be missed. Reid isn't ready and Gabbidon isn't good enough - or fit for that matter. So we are down to Tomkins and Da Costa, both of whom are young, one of whom is just back from a long layoff and the other who is currently on the sidelines.
What does this mean? We are in deep, deep, deep, shit!
So much for luck. Although Parker is now the Captian! Whooopeeeee!!
ReplyDeleteYou should have titled this column as "so long upson" because we all know he is never going to wear a claret and blue jersey again.
ReplyDeleteI think not bringing in a decent centre back is something GRANT regrets now,but hopefully UPSON may not be out for long.TOMKINS and DA COSTA are going to have to step up to the plate now and really play their hearts out. They both,on their day are very good, but both have had their nightmare games,DA COSTA'S only last week when he was paired up with REID.Any more injuries in this position and we will be in serious trouble. Then we will will be down to the barebones in GABBIDON,SPECTOR and REID.
ReplyDeleteIt might be a blessing if we can keep Tomkins and Da Costa fit. Let’s be honest Fanno Upson has been generally poor for the last couple of seasons. Did have a little decent spell before the transfer window, wonder why?
ReplyDeleteOf course the added bonus is that Parker will now be captain and I am sure you are pleased about that!!
Surprised and a little worried at the strengh of the team selected tonight.
