Are Blackpool doing a Sheffield United? Two wins in the last 12 games certainly suggests so. They have now taken 7 points from the last 36. Average that out over a season and they would end up with 22 points!
Typically, they showed great spirit again tonight, pulling back a goal despite being three down; but is spirit enough? And having conceded seven in their last two games, is that spirit now at breaking point?
We are a point behind the Tangerine Dreamers with a superior goal difference. If they average the same number of points per game over the next 9 matches as they have done over the last 12, they will finish on 37 points.
You should see their fixtures HF! :) I've been staring at our rival's fixtures for weeks now. I'm now getting the feeling that if I stop, they'll start winning.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure that's a tangerine in the photo?
Tangerine? Who said it was a tangerine? It's a clementine isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of:
Oh my darling, oh my darling,
Oh my darling, Clementine!
Thou art lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine
; }
hehehe, very good.
ReplyDeleteBut it's a tangerine, I was wrong :)
You stop doing ANYTHING that you've been doing recently, Stani, and I will hunt you down. :-)
ReplyDeleteThis optimism is starting to worry me.
What has been really important from a West Ham perspective is not that we have been winning but that we haven't just scraped 1-0 or 2-1 wins. Our GD is now on par if not better than the other teams around us, we were well behind in terms of GD only a few weeks back.
ReplyDeleteWith Keane and Collison soon coming back, our squad is beginning to look really strong.
ReplyDeleteWe have got through a terrible time of injuries, loss of form, and bad luck.Hopefully its the turn of three other teams at the bottom end to now suffer what we did.
I know its West Ham, and I shouldn't be optimistic, but I just can't help myself
HF, you were pretty quick off the mark to have a pop at Knees Up for "stoking the fires of football violence" as you put it. They've now got an excellent letter from a Stoke supporter, who's doing his best to calm the whole thing down. For the sake of balance (and possibly to prevent some of our more moronic supporters seeking revenge on Sunday), don't you think you ought to run this bloke's comments as well?
ReplyDeleteLooks like a satsuma to me.
ReplyDeletestill think it looks like a satsuma to be honest
ReplyDeleteHappy to do so Overwrought. Want to copy it and paste it into a comment on here? I genuinely don't want to visit the site because of the "trackers" downloaded each time I do so.
ReplyDeleteWell done to the Stoke fan for trying to defuse the situation. That doesn't alter the fact that KUMB publicised a relatively minor incident unnecessarily. There was probably more violence outside pubs in the area at chucking out time on Saturday night. KUMB didn't run an article on that did they?
A sadsumu 1221? That would be McBenni when told he can only eat chicken salad!
ReplyDeleteGood on you, HF. Here's a copy of the Stoke fan's letter to Knees Up, with a brief intro from one of their staff writers:
ReplyDeleteA Stoke supporter has written to KUMB.com in order to condemn the violence that marred West Ham's 3-0 win over the Potters at the weekend.
Rather than pass comment or analyse, we'll simply post it here for you to digest:
"Firstly I would like to say well done for the three points on Saturday. The main reason for the mail is an apology of some sorts, although I fear it might fall on some deaf ears.
The 'idiots' who attach themselves to our away days have, no doubt, knocked back any chance of West Ham being a good away day in the future. This Saturday - as well as last season - I enjoyed a good day out in the Queens with no troubles and chipped in with Hammers on the friendly banter chat, pro's/cons of 4-4-2, hatred of Chelsea etc.
Sadly though it will, I think, be my last trip. I'm a middle-aged fan but the idiots/young ones/whatever polite name you would like to call them just don't have a clue and this will, I'm sure, mean any future trips won't be worth the hassle.
If they want to fight, great! Leave it to them to fight 'idiots' of similar mentality and as far away from London as possible. Even the 'etiquette' (and I use the term loosely) of not hitting scarfs/kids/etc seems not to count now. I am not a hooligan, and never have been but it's not exactly uncommon knowledge, is it?
No doubt that Sunday's FA Cup match will be a more hostile affair, which in turn would make the next trip to Upton Park hostile too. I'm sure that every decent Stoke City fan (...and there are some!) will wash their hands of these morons who have once again set our club's image back a few years. Please don't tar us all with the same brush.
I hope you all have a safe trip up to Staffordshire on Sunday - and that football is what the day is remembered for."

Thanks for posting that.
