So they've only gone and done it, the anonymous white men in grey suits have only gone and charged Carlton Cole with racism because of his jokey comments on Twitter. I ridiculed the whole idea of an all white F.A. charging Cole with racism - just imagine their reaction if a black man applied to manage England!- and didn't believe for one minute that they would go through with it; but then, I warned that they would charge Grant after his post match comments following the Stoke game, not really believing they would be bare faced enough to do it!
But Grant was banned for two games for telling it how he saw it in an interview he is obliged to give as part of a television contract negotiated by the FA; and now Cole is being brought to book for racism. If the idiots at the FA were running horse racing, there would be a photo-finish for last place in tomorrow's National with the "winning" distance being a tail, because these guys get everything arse about face.
What penalty does Cole face for God's sake? A fine, a ban, a slap on his ebony wrists? Never mind the games gone crazy, the whole bloody world has gone crazy when a black guy is charged with racism because of a few jokes on Twitter.
I mean, Twitter! Doesn't the name say it all? We have a Russian oligarch pumping a billion or so of dodgy roubles into Chelsea without anybody raising a word of objection, the farce at Portsmouth last year, Yanks mortgaging the nation's biggest clubs up to the eyeballs and John Moral Outrage Terry captaining England, and what are the FA getting tough about? A few Tweets!
Once again, they show they know sweet FA about how to run the game!
I can't wait for the hearing. Cole arrives and immediately Colonel Smythe pronounces "Guilty!" Cole's brief politely points out that the evidence hasn't been presented yet and Smyth replies, "What's the point? He's obviously guilty, he's a bloody nigger!"
Although I sort of see where you are coming from, old King Cole does strike me as a simple old soul - he's not quite the full ticket imo.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore, racism isn't just about shade of skin tone is it, HF? Cole takes a poke at Ghanayans and he is no more or less Ghanayan than I am, which ain't a lot!
It was a bloody joke! And the joke is as much about attitudes of BNP supporting West Ham fans as it is about illegal immigrants.
ReplyDeleteCole gave voice to the thoughts of a huge percentage of football fans and indeed to a huge percentage of British society, as the last election's preoccupation with the issue of immigration showed. All three political parties were pledged to controlling immigration and tightening controls. So, it's ok for Brown, Cameron and Clegg, three white men, to talk about slamming the door in the face of immigrants trying to enter our country on National TV, but not ok for Cole, a black man with African parents, to make a joke about it on Twitter. Mad.
It isn't as extreme, but it is akin to a Jewish athlete in Nazi Germany being accused of racism because of a joke about stopping Jessie Owens from competing in the Berlin Olympics because the German Volk need the gold.
This is political correctness gone mad. Hitler wanted every German to think the same thoughts and we are being led down the same route surreptitiously. I hate the BNP but I respect their right to say what the hell they want. What has happened to freedom of speech when Grant isn't allowed to answer a question honestly and Cole isn't allowed to Tweet a joke?
The players have been quiet on twitter recently. Reckon the club told them to stop, pending new guidelines?...or maybe stop completely...
ReplyDeleteWasn't what the Spurs fans chanted at Adebayor ("Your dad washes elephants") worse?
ReplyDeleteLOL Did they? Adebayor clearly doesn't take after his dad then. The lazy bastard would never take on a job as big as that!
ReplyDeleteYep, in the champions league game. And uefa are doing nothing about it.
ReplyDeleteHave spurs fans never witnessed the wonder of an elephant washing itself using it's trunk? It sucks up the water in it's trunk, then slings it with a big exhalation over it's head, onto it's body. Uncultured morons.
Actually, I watched a matriarch supervising bathing in a lake in Sri Lanka. When young ones tried to avoid bath time she got a right cob on and drove them down into the lake. Once in, they had great fun, lying down, rolling over, submerging themselves almost entirely. And standing at the top of the hill, watching it all and not bathing himself was the old hoary patriarch. Fabulous experience.
ReplyDeleteSo you're not a spurs fan then? ;)
ReplyDelete"fabulous experience"? Must be all that chaos HF....:) Nothing ordered about that whatsoever. Just happened...chaos.
ReplyDeleteBloody stupid God to put ivory on an elephant. Such a magnificent creature born with a reason to be hunted to point of extinction. Flawed creation = design by accident = chaos!
ReplyDeleteIvory? are you mad? it's only humans that put any value on it. You'll be complaining about god putting bile in bears next.
ReplyDeleteBy the way HF can you repeat the joke that Carlton told, as I haven't seen it?
