Bullard illustrates West Ham's Stupidity!

It is interesting to read that we are being linked with Bullard along with Wigan & QPR. Apparently the former Hammer apprentice - who is now a ripe old 33 - fancies a return to the Prem, which kind of puts us out of the running but that's not my point.

Why are Hull City so desperate to offload Jimmy? Not because he is injury prone. Not because he is crap. Not because he is uncommitted. But because of his ridiculously high wages. And how much are they paying him? £45,000 per week.

Now I'm not saying a salary of £45k a week isn't stupid. Of course it is. Bullard is a decent player and for a season or two was a very good player, but a salary of £2,340,000 a year is absurd. I don't care how short a player's career is. Five years at £2,340,000 a year is £11,700,000. Divide that over 47 years - the average working life - and that is £248,936 a year, or as near as damn it £250,000 a year for life, for playing football at a reasonable level for five years! No wonder Beano Ashton hasn't thought about finding a job yet. Why would he?

But what is the relevance to West Ham? Well whilst Hull City are having kittens over one player on £45k a week, we have a whole host of them earning in excess of £40k a week, with Dyer, Bridge and Parker on double that amount!

What a farce. Of course we will have to have a clear out when we go down. And do you know, relegation may just suit Sullivan & Gold so they can get the wage bill under control. When you pay one player £80k a week, it becomes a benchmark for others. The club gets a reputation and agents think of a figure, double it and add £10k when you show an interest in a player. We need to go back to being Little Old West Ham for a while, get the financial house in order and then relaunch the bid for Champions League football sometime down the line.

The Championship will hurt but, longer term it may be good news. That may be the logic of Gold and Sullivan.

  1. I've always wondered why you are so disrespectful and angry. Your words about Dean Ashton are nothing short of disgusting as were your comments on Parker after his father died, downright repugnant and distasteful.

Are you short in stature, small in the trouser department, unloved by your parents or just plain ugly? whatever it is you are a seriously bitter and twisted individual.

  2. I think that is pretty much spot on, HF. Painful but true. I derided those who suggested so once but I am now resigned to the reality. You either have to say that SuGo are just plain daft (they're plainly not) or else hell bent on a Mac the Knife style culling of contracts which can only be achieved by relegation. Everything they have said and done since arriving has had the effet of destabilising the management, the team morale - it just makes no sense unless it was intended to mortally wound.

  3. I'd agree, they seem to have done everything possible to get us relegated.

Practically the whole team is out of contract or an international that won't play championship football.

Unfortunately that means we will end up buying a whole new squad from the championship who know we are a pushover and we will end up with the highest paid championship journeymen and has-beens.

  4. Hello TurdsOut!, you've been quiet for a while, unless you have been operating under different names!

Why am I so disrespectful and angry? Oh I don't know. It might have something to do with working hard for a living, doing my best best every day I work, and having to work until I'm 55 before I am financially secure.

Meanwhile Ashton, who professes that he isn't interested in football now, will never have to do a stroke of work for the rest of his life after gaining just one cap for England playing in a friendly against a team who aren't even any good at cricket now!

What have I said that is so disgusting exactly? That he can live on £250,000 per year without ever working? I'd take a knackered ankle and that salary for sitting on my arse thanks very much!

And what did I say that was so terrible about Parker's father? That the RIP messages were insincere. Scotty has confirmed what I said at the time, that his Dad was a Spurs fan. He was nothing to do with West Ham and, apart from not wanting his son to lose, he would have been cheering on Spurs on the day after he died have he been alive. In fact, given relegation would increase the prospects of the family dream being realised, of Scotty wearing the Tottenham shirt, he would probably have cheered on Spurs anyway. I didn't wish him dead, I just said that the RIP comments were without true feeling.

Anyway, good to have you back talking your usual shit!

  6. QPR fan here. Just wanted to say what a well written article this is. People talk about footballers earning big bucks to reflect their short careers, but when you do the maths and come up with £250k per year for being a reasonable footballer you realise the world has gone quite mad. I saw Bullard a couple of months back at Loftus Road. He was the key player in the first half but completely ineffective in the 2nd. Could he hack it back in the PL? Possibly as a backup player. Is he worth £45k per wk? No way. Here's hoping we don't have to go down the same road as you offering daft contracts. Good luck for the rest of the season. PS. I met Tal Ben Haim pre season and he said he was joining you. Whatever happened to him?

HF will always be a hater Turds, it's what he does best. Of course Ashton would love to still be playing, not sure what he did to upset HF so much... it's not his fault that players around the world are paid so much, but if you listen to Herr Fanno you'd think it was.

  8. TV star Ben Shephard is relishing the prospect of hosting the 2010/11 End of Season Gala Dinner in aid of the Academy next Monday at the Grosvenor House hotel on London’s Park Lane.

The 36-year-old is also a fanatical Hammer, having attended his first home match during the unforgettable ‘Boys of ‘86’ season 25 years ago.

The Gala Dinner will give Shephard the opportunity to mix with his heroes, including members of that famous 1985/86 squad. He will follow on from Phill Jupitus and James Corden, who hosted the previous two sell-out Gala Dinners.

End Of Season Gala Dinner 2010/11

The entire first-team squad - as well as some famous names - will be in attendance for this glittering event which will be highlighted by the crowning of the 2010/11 Hammer of the Year.

Scott Parker will be hoping to make it three consecutive wins, a feat that only five-times winner Sir Trevor Brooking has achieved since its inception for the 1957/58 season. Several other seasonal awards will also be crowned on the night including the Best Goal, Best Team Performance, Best Save, Players’ Player and Top Scorer. Vote today at whufc.com

We really hope to see you at what promises to be a night to remember for any true Hammers supporter - or indeed anyone who enjoys a first class evening out!

    Come on you irons!

    PDC, Ray Winstone, Russell Brand?

Come on lads - let's book a table of 10 - one and a half a man - what do you say? TGGC table!

Come on HF you've got the hits now, let's have a good old knees up and get together.

  9. Cheers 2121. Ben Haim came, he was seen, he did not conquer and went back to Pompey.

Hello Nigerian. Sure you're not Turds? It's not me who is the hater, you are the guys full of vitriol.

How much are the tickets 2222?

  13. Will comment more in the morning but all I'll add now is that if you wanna see people that deserve £40+ grand a week then watch the current series of documentaries called Children's Craniofacial Surgery on the BBC. Third installment is next week. You can catch the previous two on iplayer. It will bring a tear to your eye. What amazing, amazing people those surgeons are.

  15. Hi all, another QPR fan chucking his tuppence in. I've always seen a lot of synergy between our teams in my 40+ years of supporting the R's, but if you are relegated I hope you dont take 15 years to get back to the Prem as we did.
I wanted to disagree on the Journeymen comment, and heres why: Warnock built a Championship winning team with a lot of new players bought in to do a job, majority of them in my opinion Championship level Journeymen but still good reliable players, and he added a couple of flair players with a point to prove (Taraabt & Routledge) & we unearthed a gem in Jamie Mackie (but his injury curtailed his season at midway point). if relegated West Ham will be a big club in the championship, and will attract the better players at that level, but on your terms/wages etc. This will put you in a position of strength.
Which comes back to the point of the article though, we cannot go on paying AVERAGE Premier League Players (which Bullard amounts to at best) stupid amounts of money or the game will implode (or our clubs will), Rangers have been through that mill and it is painful. Maybe as someone suggested your board need this to happen to return some semblance of order.
Bleedin shame if you go down as our derbies are always something I look forward too. Good luck next season, if you do get relegated at least you'll get to watch Late Kickoff on Monday nights which I truly am going to miss, the best footy programme by far anywhere. FlashRanger out.

  16. I must admit it does look like a good situation, we go down, we get rid of a load of underachieving overpaid so called proffesional footballers, Scott Parker excluded. Then there's the downside 40million or so worse off, no not even S.G.& B could be that dumb surely. Although their comments thoughout the season would seem to indicate a poor understanding of business & football in general. Bring back the biscuit man, and why were at it could Billy Bonds please get his boots out. What goes around!!!

  17. Did you read the statement by Spector to the Guardian (I think) today that 39 points will still save us! All I can say to that is that he speaks like he plays football for us!

  18. Aplogies to all. It would appear that the site was hacked earlier. It seems as if one of the anonymice is very clever! I think we are back to normal but spoof ID and profile was added. I am checking back through comments section and articles to try to establish if there is any more mischief afoot. Aplogies I have been a bit quiet, it has taken quite some sorting out!
