Kovac Slams Grant

So there's no love lost between Radislav and Avram then. The Czech has fired off a broadside, claiming Grant had a squad good enough to finish in the top 10 and blaming the Israeli for our relegation.

Of course Kovac is bitter. He was on his way to Stoke before the Hitz injury, and then Grant refused to sanction the deal. That would have been okay, of course, had Kovac not spent the whole season rotting in the reserves or keeping the bench warm.

And there's the rub. Even Grant's most vociferous critics have no time for Kovac. If there's one thing Grant got right all season, in the eyes of most Hammers fans, it was ignoring Kovac.

Radislav now wants out. The question is, who would be stupid enough to take him?

Stani I know you'd like this - Zola 35 points, grant 33 points. Yes 35 would have been delegation and yeah he had one less game but technically who was better? Hahaha

I am not too worried about Kovac staying. Although not great I am sure he coundn't be any worse than the ones selected by Grant to be playing in his position. I am however very-very worried about the likes of Spector and Gabbidon staying, yet again!!!

US HF - it does help having Burnley, Portsmouth and Hull in the division, none of whom managed to finish in the top 6 of the Championship this season. How long ago is it since that happened? So basically, there were 18 gimme points available last season that are not available this!

We would be safe now with our present points total given Burnley & Hull went down with 30 points and Pompey with 19 after the points deduction. I can't understand why West Ham fans can't see and understand that key factor!

HF - the key factor is that Zola kept us up and Grant got us relegated. That's what will be remembered.

Zola and Grant both had to cope with difficult circumstances but Grant had a bigger/better squad.
After turds we had two more cr*p managers. Not much point working out who was the worst.

Time to move on. It is vital we get the right man for next season.
I expect Di Canio waited to see if he was in with a shout before he went to Swindon. If he does well there, then he is a likely candidate next time round. McLeish will come into the reckoning if Brum get relegated.

O'Neill would be a stand out choice but I doubt he will be persuaded after the last fiasco. Big fat Sam should be next on the list.

HF, if memory serves me we didn't get all the points against those three last year. 4 from Hull and Pompey, 3 from Burnley. I have no idea what difference it makes, though. We have had two consecutive managers that were flawed in different ways. One year we got luck to stay up, and this year it caught up.

I think we are all looking for black and white answers in a very grey world. Nobody in their right mind would dispute Grant turned out to be a fraud. But one could also argue that if the Chelsea boys knew it and played on as if Grant wasn't there, why couldn't our guys his year? Why did Bridge need ANYONE to tell him how to defend? Why did Keane need ANYONE to remind him how to finish?

West Ham are like an addict that has reached rock bottom. It has to happen in order to get help and change. And I am going to believe that is happening. Rationalizing is a good way to ease pain, by the way.

As for Kovac, it's like the nominees for Best Sound Editing at the Oscars.

Who cares?

Yes US,
HF's own index, which he will publish soon, will tell us that Zola was better than Grant.

HF,
I see you got in early regarding Kovac's comments? :) Now, yes the guy will be bitter but that is no excuse to dismiss what he has to say. Shocking wasn't it? Stark reality eh? Hahaaa, go Kovac!

Let's have another read of it, because this is not from me or Sav, it's from someone on the inside, in the know:

Kovac lambasted the decisions to sign top quality players but not use them, feeling Grant's running of the team had been poor and, in consequence, there was a 'horrific atmosphere' created in the dressing room.

"It's a catastrophe and a disgrace that we have been relegated. We had a team capable of finishing in the top ten,"

"Obinna, Piquionne, Carlton Cole, Robbie Keane, Demba Ba - all absolutely top-class players, aces. Avram Grant is the man to blame.

"People will think that we are just throwing responsibility and all the dirt on him, but nobody understands why the club didn't sack him already in the winter.

"Even so (by sacking Grant now) everyone has been relieved. Our fans hated him and there was a horrific atmosphere within the dressing room.

"He spent £40million on players who should have fitted into his ideas. But then they were not playing anyway. He was not honest.

"Not to mention his tactical decisions. The score was even in some games or we were leading by an odd goal and he replaced a forward with another one. He was not able to react precisely to how a game developed."

Wow! And I didn't even have to pay him! :)

Great photo at the top of the post HF - I can still remember Kovac making that back-pass - most acrobatic one I've seen !!!

LOL Very good Zito!

Zola got us to Ninth - and if those results are included as they should be, then you'll find that there isn't an index on earth that will show anything other than Zola at the top.

Touché Turds!

Amazing incompetence, to take a team good enough to finish 9th into the mess that Zola left us in. Here's an index! We were 4th when Zola took over and 17th when he left. That's a drop of 13 places! Grant has only slipped another 3 places! ; }

HF,
Curbishley left on the 3rd of September, right at the beginning of the season. The table is hardly reflective then is it? You do your credibility no favours with silly, flawed arguments like that in front of everyone. It even makes me cringe when you do things like that.
