Fernandes Hell Bent on Destabilising West Ham

I don't usually have much time for the Gobby One, but I think he has it spot on with his Fernandes rant. With the supposed "West Ham fan" timing his Twitter "bid" for the club to coincide with the announcement of Sam Pot as manager, it is patently obvious what game he is playing.

For the record, Sullivan has dismissed Fernandes' bid as a publicity stunt (and he may be using rhyming slang!) saying, "I can assure Sam he has an unbreakable two-year contract and he is the perfect man for the job."

"I can only think the motivation for this 'takeover' bid is PR. If there was a genuine Russian billionaire out there willing to pump hundreds of billions of pounds into West Ham then we'd step aside for the good of the club.

"But when someone offers to buy your club for buttons and does it via Twitter it is most unhelpful at a time when we are trying to rebuild West Ham."

The reaction of Hammers fans to the Fernandes bid has been incredible and shows the degree of desperation. Does a businessman announce a takeover bid via Twitter for God's sake? Did he send over an offer and contract in 15,000 forty character messages? What a load of nonsense.

I treated the "announcement" with the contempt it deserved yesterday and I would now be very worried should Fernandes emerge as a genuine bidder for the club. Yesterday's announcement was timed solely to steal the thunder from the unveiling of Sam Pot as manager and has revealed Fernandes in his true colours - and he isn't wearing Khmer Rouge and Blue in that picture is he? I wouldn't trust Fernandes any more that I trust SuGo.

  6. I think if it really happened the way in which G&S say it did, then Fernandes has done a lot of harm to his reputation.

What I would say is that there is no way G&S will sell the whole club though...unless someone comes in which a stupidly big offer. So if Fernandes wants the whole club, it's not going to happen. If he wants a share, maybe.

  8. Seems as though he is playing the same game with Norwich City saying he will buy the club if the fans want him to etc.I think this guy likes the limelight but has no intention of ever doing anything positive. Take note those who preferred him to Sugo as owner of out club.

  9. With El Hadji Diouf already being linked with a move to the Boleyn I'd like to know who everyone would like Big Sam's first signing to be.

  10. Never mind what S&G said, Fernandes deliberately broke the news on the day that Allardyce was unveiled as manager. Why would he do that unless he is intent on destabilising the club? The fact that Sullivan had to reassure Sam Pot that his job was safe the day after his appointment says it all! This Fernandes is a shit in my book.

Michael, I would like our first signing to be Messi but then you're going to come over "Realistically" on me! So, I'd sell Ba to Everton but insist on Beckford coming in P/X plus cash.

  11. Funny experience Rex. Makes an interesting noise. I reckon a sound engineer should record it and lay it down as a backing track for a club anthem. "MRI Scan" sounds like a hit to me!

  12. Haha no realism needed today. I've decided to dare to dream. I think that deal would be lovely business. Throw in Yakubu too. Then we can sell Cole and shore up that defence with the proceeds.

  13. Sam Pot aint going to sign Yakubu. He got rid of McBenni for eating all the pies!

  14. Yakubu, Mcarthy and Andy Reid would be a devastating triumvirate in the championship.

  15. I'd like your view on Sullivan offering contracts to Spectator and Gabbidon before a manager had been appointed.

  16. Didn't they give you the headphones HF?

Sky News are saying that Fernandes has apparently hired Peter Kenyon to help him in buying us out!

  17. Maybe he discussed it with Sam Pot in adavance. Maybe he would rather take a transfer fee rather than let them leave on free transfers?

  18. Do you think Sullivan makes the football decisions and Gold makes the business decisions?

  19. You twit - what a short memory, soon after the takeover SuGo said, publicly, that they encouraged other investors, naming Fernandes (who said he wasn't interested at that time), to take a stake. If you leave bait on a hook and line, don't complain when the fish bite.

  20. Fernandes, the Malaysian businessman behind AirAsia and the Lotus Formula One team, announced yesterday he had submitted an offer for the club he supports.

But Sullivan told the Evening Standard yesterday: "Tony Fernandes wanted to buy 51 per cent of the club for two bob."

Fernandes, though, fired back with a series of messages on Twitter.

"Make up your mind Sullivan and Gold. One minute you say no offer then you say its a joke offer. It was a good offer with good money and brought in good people."

Three follow-up messages said: "Gold and Sullivan can say whatever they want. I have been a lifelong fan and would have brought good money, good ideas, new people and a new belief.

"As for PR stunts. Wow. They are always in the press making huge claims. Were we not supposed to be in Europe. Now we have been relegated. 2 sacked managers. All good players will be sold.

"No new training ground which is the most important ingredient I feel. Look at how many injuries we have. And more investment into the academy."

Sullivan had said yesterday: "He thinks somehow that we are desperate to have him involved or desperate for the small amount of money he offered for 51 per cent of the club."

Fernandes first expressed an interest in taking over West Ham in 2009 but he lost out on that occasion to Sullivan and his business partner David Gold.

Sullivan and Gold do want to attract new investors into a club that is saddled with debts that could rise to over £100 million following relegation from the Barclays Premier League.

"We are not looking to sell the club but, as we have always said, we would love co-investors to join us in rebuilding West Ham United, which has been our aim ever since we took charge back in January 2010," said Sullivan.

"In the event that a serious investor came forward as was the case at Chelsea and Manchester City, we would naturally consider it for the good of the club - but this is certainly not the case in this instance."

  21. I don't think Sugo were expecting the offer to come in on an email, hence it probably was not seen for a while.
If Sugo are supposed to be too gobby what about Fernades then. It also sounds as though his offer was some kind of group venture which could cause a lot of future problems, and what about him wanting to buy into Norwich City?
