Gold Playing Poker over Parker but Levy has a Full House!

Gold is doing his best to convince the footballing world that Parker could start the season in Claret and Blue but anybody with half a brain knows that this is just a bluff, hoping to bid Spurs higher before Scotty makes the inevitable move across town. Anxious not to allow Scotty's imminent departure to detract from the "coup" of signing Nolan, Gold is making all the right noises about Allardyce persuading Parker to stay after his return from holiday, but I doubt that Sam Pot even wants the guy.

Allardyce is Mr Pragmatism and he will look at the pound for pound return that Parker offers. How many goals and assists did Scotty contribute last season? A fraction of what Nolan offered! For Parker's £83,000 a week salary, Sam could tempt three quality Championship players to the club, and they would be able to do a squad job in the Premiership into the bargain after promotion.

Of course, Gold has to pretend we want to keep the man that the club staked so much upon but we all know now that the cards were played poorly. The sooner Parker goes, the quicker we stop chucking good money after bad. Gold is trying to bluff Levy but Daniel is no mug. 'Arry and Jamie have tapped up Parker and Levy isn't convinced he is the right man anyway. He will wait and wait and wait and end up paying £5million tops and Gold will claim , "We did all we could to retain him but Scott was intent on leaving".

  1. With Nolan, Noble and Collison, do we really need him? Use the cash on reinforcements. Nice knowing you, Scotty.

  3. This statement from Gold is just another cynical attempt to flog season tickets. Fan fares for new signings silence about departures. The official site has yet to mention Ba has left yet.

No its the two Daves tryin to flog them tickets by any means!

  4. Am I the only one who is happy and looking forward to the new season, the first time that has happened for many seasons.
People should stop knocking Gold and throwing pessimistic conspiracy theories into the equation. We have a decent manager who is attracting decent players and is being backed by the board for his endeavours. Also, if you look at what Gold actually said he doesn't think Parker will stay. He said that as an owner he thought the chances of keeping him were 20\80.

  5. I cant stand our board, i think they are a bunch of useless pricks, the only good thing they have done since arriving is buying Nolan and not because its Nolan (although this was good business), the main reasons this was so good is that it sends out 2 positives

1 - We have money, yes we are relegated and players must go, but they will go for the right prices as we dont HAVE to sell
2 - Its a statement of intent, any of the prem players in 2 minds (like maybe Noble), this kind of signing might just sway them to give us a year.

    On the Parker front...

this statement is not just about trying to talking up the prices to the tottenham

I think he needed to do it, what if NO ONE WANTS HIM !!!

A stupid £4m from tottenham is the only bid on the table, so they need to

a - try and stir up some other interest !!
b - leave an option where if no one changes there mind he can run back as a "loyal saviour", instead of with his tail between his legs

I personally want him sold and i want him sold for 10m, i think this will continue to help the transfer war chest and ultimately our goal for promotion far greater than him staying

  7. Beelxebub - we are getting nowhere near 10m for him, fella. 5-6 and be grateful, I'd say!

HF - this time I make you right. I've argued with you every time you've touted Parker's exit and named his destination. No argument this time. Difference is, I think it is the right thing by both club and player this time.

  8. Alwish, I am with you. I am looking forward to our fight for promotion rather than our fight fir survival.

HF, you wrote months ago that relegation could actually serve a purpose. I wondered what you meant, and I admit I thought you had fallen on your head a few too many times. But I see what you meant. This will clarify what we need and who should supply it, so when we do head back up we are more organized and better equipped to stay there.

And beezle, I tend to think this will happen in spite of and not because of the board. I think our revival will be all down to Allardyce. While I have not been around long enough to have watched Greenwood or Lyall do their job, I honestly suspect they are happy that a seasoned pro is leading the way.

  9. Got to disagree with the under valuation of PARKER. He is the FWA Footballer of the Year for the 2010–11 season. He has represented England at every level from under-16 to senior. At 30 ,going by last seasons form he is at his peak now,and will no doubt have a good 2 or 3 seasons left in him as his fitness levels are excellent. To say he will be sold on for £4-5 million is a joke,no chairman in their right mind would accept that figure.SULLIVAN and GOLD will certainly hold out for at least £8-10 million. If there are no suitors then WESTHAM win either way.

  10. If we keep him for another season, his value will fall to close to zero and he will cost over £4million in wages. And for what? Scotty Parkers - guys who run around feverishly for 90 minutes - are ten a million in the N Power. We could have an entire squad of them for what we would waste paying Parker.

  11. Depends if his form drops off. There is no reason why he couldn't maintain his peak form for another 2 possibly three seasons, his value would only drop off a little ,proportional to his age,but not significantly.
