It looks as if Matty Taylor has been landed and it is refreshing to report the capture of a natural left footer. At last the issue of balance is being addressed - and it is about time!
The question is, where will Sam play him? Will it be on the left of midfield or will Taylor play at left back as he used to back in his early Pompey days?
Hopefully, we will now retain Ilunga and Taylor will be used on the left of midfield, enabling the former Bolton man to cover the Congolese left back when he ranges forward. The only concern with that combination is the lack of height as neither Ilunga nor Taylor are giants.
My main concern with that partnership is Ilunga being crap.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's a fact. Illunga is crap.
ReplyDeletePaqrt of a defence that kept a clean sheet against a team qualified for the Champions League. Maybe he is finding the form he showed in his first season at the club.
ReplyDeleteI really dont see how you can say ilunga was crap after one bad season under one of our worst ever managers. under sam ilunga will be taught to defend again and hopefully we see some of them attacking runs that we saw from him under zola. If that deal goes ahead HF I expect the lineup for our first game of the season to read something like this.
ReplyDeleteCole Piq
collison Noble Nolan Stan/barrera
Taylor Faye Tomkins Spence
Green
or I expect piq or cole will be dropped to have parker sit and hold
Agree w fred149 formation except 1. greens garbage let cech prove himself 2. Sears has to start
ReplyDeleteWhen did we sign Cech? I'd give him a chance!
ReplyDeleteI hope fred is right about Ilunga returning to form. With Taylor and an in-form Ilunga we could see a return of the left flank we have missed since the Etherington/Koncheski days.
ReplyDeleteStill, based on his last couple of seasons i will reserve praise until he shows us he wants to be the workhorse we need.
Personally I would go like this:
ReplyDeleteCole
Barerra
Taylor Nolan Collison Sears
Ilunga/Brown Tomkins Faye Spence
Green
Nice balance, good pace assuming Barerra stays & plays like he did in the recent tournament he will terrorise the Championship. No Noble which may upset a few but Collison is a better player.
Everyone is suddenly pro Barrera based on his performances for his country. I will have money on him being poor next year, providing he stays.
ReplyDeletesorry but i dont think the team works without noble as he brings alot more balance then most people think and collison plays better out wide for some reason. But i do not really think there will be much point in teams and stuff as it will be rare we play the same lineup every game.
ReplyDeletemy other lineup would be
nouble
taylor nolan noble collison Barrera
ilunga tomkins faye spence
stech
