Bring in Barton, Sell Parker!

I didn't think I would ever say it, but I actually feel sorry for Joey Barton. God only knows what is going on behind the scenes but, on the face of it, Newcastle have over reacted to Barton's relatively restrained criticism of the club. Clearly the club don't want him, so much so that they are willing to let him go for nothing - making him a very attractive prospect indeed!

This involves quite a turn around for me as I have twice used this blog to call for Barton to be banned from football for life. When Curbishley expressed an interest in signing him I ran a thread entitled "Fight Club United" - we already had Bowyer, Bellamy and Dyer on the books!

But now? Well Nolan seems to be able to manage the guy and you would fancy Doctor Evil to keep him under control. I doubt we are going to get £8m for Parker - Chelsea are no longer interested - so this would be a good way of softening the blow: picking up a player worth £4m for nothing and letting Parker go for a knock down £5m as part of the bargain.

It would be controversial but with Doctor Evil already in charge, foibles seem out of fashion at Upton Park.

  1. Sorry, HF. I can't see it. Barton is who he is. Regardless of Nolan or Sam's influence he is a loose cannon with no impulse control. Not at all what we need.

Parker actually looked happy against Zaragoza. He seemed to enjoy his partnership with Nolan. His wages are nothing if compared to the return of our EPL status. If he is willing to stay, I say keep him. No more discussion.

  4. great idea hf it would be replacing like for like and getting money for scott parker could be spent on a few gambles nearer the end of the window wich might boost the size of our squad parker is a great player but always seems one tackle away from a couple of months lay off through injury barton dont seem to have many injury problems plus he gets a few goals ok hes nuts but who cares

  5. 0251 That quartet would not work as a unit. Noble and Parker are already too similar in many people's eyes, Barton, Noble and Parker would certainly step on each other's toes!

  6. Except that Noble can't defend!

  7. We are already on the back pages for the wrong reasons too often. The guy is an animal and i dont think the odd goal would compensate for all the bad press we would get. The 'man' is cancerous to team morale and it could only take one moronic tweet to destroy our season.

We could do without players like that, and BFS will get more time with the rest of the team if he doesn't have to carefully manage Barton's attitude.

  8. We should definitely keep Scotty Parker if we want to succeed and keep faith in the minds of our owners and pessimistic manager!!

I was upset that Parker is not captain! Sam's buy of Nolan and then consequent new captain status undermined the loyalty of the players who were with us before him! Can anyone else see what I mean?
