So Hines has joined Burnley, swapping one Claret and Blue kit for another. He looked briefly as if he was a future star in the making with that stunning goal against Villa but, subsequently, injuries, attitude and ego have limited Zavon's progress. He will be remembered by some for that goal against Villa, by others for the war with Millwall but, my abiding memory will be the way he lost possession at Wigan, opening the door for our collapse and tumble through the relegation trap door.
Will he come good at Burnley? I doubt it. The game has changed and to succeed as a diminutive player now, you have to be very special indeed. Hines isn't that special.
My bet is that he will end up plying his trade in the lower reaches of the game - and that includes non league football. If Doctor Evil had seen anything exciting in the lad, he would have secured him a contract. He didn't.
So, for me, it is good riddance Zavon. Burnley are welcome to him.
Yeah never rated him and he was an ugly sod as well yuk just not my type. From Eric
ReplyDeleteWhere does this ego shit cime from? Never witness it. Why do West Ham fans seem to wanna slag off our home grown players so much. Good luck Zavon. I read your comments about being frustrated that you could not have done more last season and that it hurt to see us go down.
ReplyDeletehf i hope your right but in fairness he hasnt had a chance i can remember watching ray houghton play as a forward for our reserve team 81/2 season and finish top scorer then given a free transfer to fulham with hines i would hate to see him come back and haunt us i just think we should have signed even loaned him out for a season grant blocked him going to burnley on loan last season wich might have give us a better idea so lets hope he dont come back and haunt us
ReplyDeleteFunnily Zavon looks like more of a man than you
ReplyDelete"I'm sad to [be leaving] West Ham but I wasn't wanted at the club," he told followers on Twitter. "That's why I didn't play any games in pre-season, so I hope you can understand".
"I would like to thank all the West Ham fans for all the support and nice Tweets, I love the club and that will never change."
Oh dear…!
ReplyDeletePositive as ever HF...!
ReplyDeleteI also read his Tweets when he moaned because he wasn't being picked and then witnessed his performances when he was selected. He may prove me wrong but I doubt it!
ReplyDeleteIt is positive Andy, I'm positively pleased he has gone!
ReplyDeletehe also refused to sign an improved contract, constantly gave away silly free kicks and as a west ham fan didn't have much loyalty. by this point in his career defoe had already scored 100+ league goals, hines has 2. his negative twitter posts, moaning about not being in the first team and yet when he played we always lost, wigan summed zavon hines up, it wasnt his first mistake, it was atleast his 100th, he can't pass, take a man on, shoot, has no football brain, gives away silly free kicks and was just terrible. i used defoe as an example because they are similar in height. zavon im afraid will be lucky if his career exeeds gavin holligan, a guy we released the same time as jimmy bullard if i remember correctly and thats about all i remember
ReplyDeleteOnce again you slag someone off - who do you like HF? I suspect you don't like yourself very much which is why you slag all and sundry to try and make yourself feel better.
ReplyDeleteWasn't he voted young hammer of the year once? can't have been that bad Daz.
ReplyDeletemaybe the major injuries ruined his game, he was trying to do things he knew he used to be able to do but nothing he did and i mean nothing came off last season, he didn't want to be here at the end of the day. what did he do to win young player of the year? was it by default because all i remember him doing was scoring a goal against villa.
ReplyDeleteit was like playing with 10 men when he was playing, inept upfront (he never did score again in the league after the villa game). and he he was lazy, sloppy and gave the ball away to much to merit a place in the team. if anyone thinks he could lead the line for west ham this season i want some of the drugs that person is obviously on. i love tompkins and collison, noble has his moments and sears has done a decent job so im not dissing our youngsters, i just hates zavon hines and this is why. everytime i saw his name i thought, great we will loose and guess what e usually did, last season i dont think we won a game he was on the pitch
Spot on Daz. Nobody else to compete that year. He scored that goal against Villa and was the hero of the victory over Millwall but that was it.
ReplyDeleteam i the only one getting annoyed at people spelling "Tomkins" as "Tompkins" on here??? all i need now is essex hammer to come here and put TOMPKINS in capitals!
ReplyDeleteHe's got two good feet but not much of a brain.
