Parker - it was Spurs or...well Spurs!

You have to laugh. There were all the Parker acolytes calling Mr Cash In Whilst You Can a West Ham legend and a claret and blue hero, and behind the scenes, Scotty had the club over a barrel and was shafting the owners, the manager and the fans good and proper.

He could have gone to Turkey for £10m but Scotty was having none of that. Stoke wanted him, but Scotty didn't fancy the Potteries. No, Parker was holding out for one club and one club only, the very club that West Ham fans hate more than any other, Millwall apart.

Never mind that Tottenham were only offering £5m, never mind that this would betray the fans who had idolised him, never mind that this would put him in the same category as the reviled Defoe, Scotty was absolutely intent on joining the club his father had supported. Parker wanted to go home!

And Parker's only regrets? That he was forced to submit a transfer request meaning he sacrificed a cut of the transfer fee and that the transfer was completed 12 months behind schedule because Van der Vaart came onto the market at a knock down price at just the wrong time.

Parker deserves a place in the West Ham Hall of Fame alright, alongside Defoe, Ince, Lampard and Reo-Coker!

  2. all hammers have respect for how well scott played for us.

  3. All Hammers should have respect for the way Lampard played for us - more goals, games, goals per games and assists. And he was transferred at full market value. They should also respect the way Ince played for us - 12 goals in 87 starts against Parker's 12 in 126 games. And for Defoe - 41 goals in 72 starts! And for Reo-Coker who started 5 more games than Parker and was sold for £3million more having arrived for a fraction of the fee paid for Parker!

  4. Not a legend, he was nothing but a above average (at times) player. I actually think he hurt the team at times because he tried to tale control of the game when he really can't. What I don't get is how loyal fans call to him as he showed interest in one place, our rivals.

    HF spot on.

  5. Did Scotty shag your missues? Sometimes its not all about stats. Can you HONESTLY say that turning a club down that you support and not play at the pinnacle of your career at the highest level. You didn't stop moaning about us dropping down but then I guess you've always worked in the same place.....

  6. his father was a huge spurs fan so of course he wanted to go there.. time to move on

  7. Stop being a bitter old unrealistic muppet. We got every possible ounce of value out of Parker - have you forgotten last season already? He was a one man team. We got more than we deserved from him, and he deserves our thanks and gratitude, not daft snipping. He didnt go to Turkey? Why would he? Didn't go to Stoke? Have you been to Stoke? Get a grip and salute a Hammers legend.

  8. LOL Gavlar, no I haven't forgotten last season. Where did we finish? Erm bottom. And if Parker was a "one man team" then he is entirely to blame for that! He wasn't, of course, but he wasn't worth £83,000 per week either. Could we have finished any lower than bottom? Nope. So how, exactly, did we get "value"? Engage your brain sir!

  9. He played his socks off every game for a team that didn't care and for managers who were rubbish. What's not to like?

  10. where was he for our last 3 vital games of the season the nwhe nwe really needed him if he was a one man team. as far as im concerned demba ba showed more intent in half a season to try keep us up then most of the squad

  11. Whats with the hatred HF? It's not as if he whent on strike. He never came out and said he hated his time at West Ham. As you know I never really thought he was a GREAT player but I could never fault his attitude. And as for him joinig the hated ones, if you're dad had recently died and he was a Spurs fan, and given the position that spurs are in compared to us and the fact that he is establishing himself with England after a nearly entire career in the cold you would have held out for the same move and you know it. I just don't see what you're problem is.

  12. Why do West Ham fans "hate" Defoe, Ince and Reo-Coker - because they all demanded moves because they thought West Ham weren't good enough for them. So where's the difference with Parker? Or is it because the first three are black?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Only you could pull the 'racist' card out of the hat HF...makes for lively debate though doesn't it? Some things will never change. Let's put this into context...Defoe was hated because he wrote out his transfer request on the bus out of Birmingham the day we were relegated; Ince was hated because he was pictured in a Manure shirt before it has been announced or before he had signed for them. Reo-Joker had one or two good seasons with us where he became one fo the baby Bentleys and then when the going got tough decided he was too good to play for us and deserved a big money move to another club. None of these bare even a close resemblance to the Parker situation - in the time he has been at West Ham and been fit to play he has given his al and is about the only player on the field to have done so...consistently. At his age he has every right to hold his head up and try to reach the pinnacle of his career - England, Premier League, Champions League etc etc...good luck to him I say! If some of our other players showed the same attitude as him we wouldn't be in this situation now would we? As for your reasons for his move? Well, the claims you make as to 'who' was in for him may well be true but the reasons you are spouting for him going. i.e. that he held out and manipulated the situation? For all the reasons quoted above, I don't blame him.

  14. HF the answer to that lies in how those three left and not merely the fact that they left. Ince wore a Man Utd shirt when he was still contracted to West Ham which is a prick of a thing to do. If I remember correctly Defoe kept getting himself sent off needelesly everytime he played until he got his move. As for Reo-Coker, a load of stuff came out about him and the rest of them becoming ''Bentley boys'' and because he was club captain he took the brunt of responsibility and hatred for that.

To show that it has nothing to do with them being black and everything to do with how they left look at the cases of Lampard and Ferdinand. Both went for market value. But Ferdinand doesn't get booed when he plays at UP and Lampard does. Lampard forced through a move to chelsea because of the way his family had been treated (which I don't actualy blame him for) which caused the mob to become incensed which inevitably leads to booing. Ferdinand on the other hand didn't force through a move and now he enjoys a warm reception every time he comes to UP for a leisurely 3 points.

Now that it has been broken down for you where everyone can read it please don't write another hit spinning article about Scott Parker again. Just let it be and write about some topics that aren't boring and purely designed to get more hits for you're website. I think this is actually the best of the West Ham blogs because everyone has a different opinion unlike the org and whtid where everyone has to agree with eachother.

  15. ridiculous article - to say that he has 'shafted' and 'betrayed' the fans .

how has he done this exactly.. ohh for not wanting to go to turkey! he has children who go to school in london and why on earth would he go to stoke! do you seriously think a professional footballer would say to himself 'ohh west ham fans dnt like spurs fans so I better not go there..'

I wish him all the best and also a spurs relegation

  16. We needed some money for him and he believed Premiership football was needed to play for England. Unlike the other players you mentioned we all knew Parker tried very hard for us in every game. My concern is for next season, personally I would have insisted in the contract that he could never play against us - they always bloody score! even Tevez

  17. Our development team coach is a Spud, surely that's more worrying?

    ReplyDelete
  18. So Parker is worse than Defoe, Ince and Lampard because he scored less goals and worse than Reo-Coker because he didn't make us a tidy profit?

HF proving yet again how much of a moron he is.

    ReplyDelete
  19. No its because Parker is white.

  20. HF 7.08 are you seriously suggesting that this is a race issue, conveniently omitting Lampard Jr from your list?

If so, you are one sad deluded fool

  21. I've read this blog on and off for a while and have never been motivated to pass comment before, but the last HF post has made me reach for the keyboard in near astonishment.

Do you have anything more than a slight grasp of West Ham history? Is it just a case of scanning a couple of back pages and that's your digest for the day?

But you've asked the question, so let me tell you why fans feel the way they do about the three players.

Defoe - handed in a transfer request shortly BEFORE the club's final game to attempt to stave off relegation. Then, for the first half of the season once relegated put in some of the most selfish performances seen, including the now infamous three red cards for petulant behaviour.

Ince - after posing in a Man Utd shirt before any transfer had been completed (the back story to which was understandable and has never been a problem with many fans), the player refused to play for the club... DURING A GAME. August 1989 saw him take his protest to the playing field as he stood in the centre circle against Stoke while the game went by him.

Reo Coker - a known disruptive influence at the club whose performances and apparent effort steadily dwindled after the arrival of the Argentinians. His relationship with the fans finally reached the low point with his ear-cupping celebration as he scored a late game-winning goal versus Man Utd. He then told the press that any bad feeling from the crowd was basically because they were racist scumbags.

Three cases a world away from the actions of Scott Parker.

  22. Predictable responses, of course. Did Parker submit a transfer request? Yes. Did Parker refuse to talk to any club other than Spurs? Yes. Did Parker attend the Chelsea v Tottenham game at the end of last season rather than travel with the squad up to Manchester for a crucial game? Yes. Did Parker delay signing that contract extension in August 2010 until Tottenham dropped out, preferring Van der Vaart instead? Yes. Did Parker sign a contract extension, increasing his weekly wage by 30% in return for doing so? Yes. Did he honour that contract extension? No. Has he repaid the additional £1,196,000 he earnt in return for extending his contract? No. Did Parker show up for the final crucial games of last season? No. Was he fit to play for England however? Yes. Was Parker giving 100% at the start of this season? No. Did Defoe stay longer after we were relegated that Parker? Yes. Did Reo-Coker lead us to SURVIVAL rather than relegation? Yes. Is Ince a shit? Yes. Is Defoe a shit? Yes. Is Reo-Coker a shit? Yes. And Parker? Perhaps just a selfish money grabbing bastard who has looked after number one all along who just happens to run around a lot as part of his playing style. Did he show any more loyalty to Charlton than Defoe and Ince showed to us? No.

  23. Cheers Johntan. However, you miss the point. This article was provoked by the revelation that Parker didn't want to move out of London because of his children. Well last time I looked, West Ham played in London. And he wanted to go for the sake of his England career - an excuse used by Defoe and Curbishley when we were relegated by the way - but the last time I looked, he was in the England squad, picked on the back of his performances in the Championship. He signed a contract extension and creamed money so he should honour that contract, irrespective of the division we are in surely?

Look, I don't rate him and think we are better off without him, but I am disgusted that he only signed that contract when Spurs bought VDV and that he has not now honoured that contract, demanding a move to Spurs. He wasn't firing first three games of the season was he? Why do you think that was exactly? And why did Sam leave him out against Forest? he was still a West Ham player then wasn't he? Did Sam know his heart wasn't in it? Like Defoe's heart wasn't in it? Difference?

  24. HF, you are dead right, but this lot want 'legends' rather than footballers. Too much 'English' mythology I reckon. Like many English midfielders, Parker is mediocre, in fact just like Barry and Lampard, who similarly have failed to cut it at International level. Out of those three I mentioned, Parker is just about 3rd, so at least the 'art collector' Capello has got that right. But then these are the same fans who rated Collins over Mascherano, along with the chump manager Pardew. Mind you, Parker was 100% professional in his duty to the club who paid his inflated wages.....thankfully, we now have potentially our best manager since Lyall, a man who at least appears to know what he is doing most of the time.
And Noble, younger than Nolan is just as slow - another overarated player.
    Just my two pennyworth.....

  25. Your hate for Parker is seriously becoming laughable and very sad indeed. You are probably the only person on this planet who thinks he was shit.

Please remember, he was nominated by his fellow footballers for player of the year, was awarded player of the year by those who know their stuff about the great game and won player of the year twice at West Ham.

Now, bearing this in mind, do you STILL think you are right and the rest of the world is wrong?

You are making yourself look very very stupid and clearly shows just how much you know about football.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I have never said he is shit, I have always maintained that he is a little above average. Would a genuine footballer of the year only command a £5m transfer fee? Why didn't Wenger want him? Why wasn't Ferguson interested? Why didn't Murinho try to capture him? Why didn't the new Chelsea manager follow up his interest? What about Man City, why didn't they go for him? The only person on the planet who doesn't rate him that highly? Well explain why only Spurs, Stoke and a Turkish team wanted to buy him then! And explain why the Spurs fans that I know weren't that keen on Tottenham buying him!

  27. I hate Lumplard more than any of those because of his book showed himself to be a complete tosser Who cares about Parker I won't boo him cos I really don't give a toss about him going staying or farting, really. In Defoe,Ince and Reo Choker we lost good players and at least Defoe and Ince have apologised for being twats

    ReplyDelete
  28. I can't be having that. He was the only player on the pitch bar none last season and beyond that to put it in week in, week out. For how long can you be constantly frustrated by players who are less talented and generally not as committed than you? How many of us would put up with working or studying with people like that? OK, he moved to Spurs, but he has a young family, and as much as his millions could afford a trip North he had to do right by them (as well as make a tidy profit, obviously). Also, why go to Stoke when you can chase the champions league with sp*rs? As much as I hate them, they've got some class on the pitch and a top, top manager. I say good luck to Scotty and I for one will applaud until my hands are sore when he comes back to upton park next season, because we will be back. COYI
