Why wasn't Parker selected against Forest?

Would the Parker acolytes like to suggest why Parker didn't start against Forest? I was in Egypt so I may have missed the fact that he was injured - although he was fit to play for England wasn't he? So, if he wasn't injured, why wasn't he in the team for the Forest game?

Well according to the Daily Mail (dangerous I know), manager Sam Allardyce felt he was not "mentally right to play" because of the negotiations that were ongoing with Tottenham. Interesting. So Scott was mentally right to play the morning after his beloved father died - and how he was applauded for that - but when it came to a farewell game for the West Ham fans who have adored him for the past three years, Scotty wasn't up for it.

But why? Might it be that he wasn't willing to risk injury? Might it be that the move to Spurs meant so much to him that he wasn't willing to play, even though the club was still paying him £83,000 per week and even though promotion could eventually be decided by the margin of the three points at stake in the Forest game? Could it be that Parker was doing a Defoe and that Doctor Evil saw that he was coasting until he got his move? Perish the thought.

Tell me, did you refuse to work in the last week before you changed jobs? I didn't. Or did your boss give you the week off because he didn't trust you to try? Mine didn't. Tell me, did Reo-Coker turn out for that crucial game at Old Trafford that saw us escape relegation even though he was on his way out? Check the team sheet!

But Parker is the good guy, Parker is Mr 100%. Parker gave his all for the cause. Except at the end of last season and the beginning of this of course. I told you in August 2010 that he was on his way to Spurs but you wouldn't have it. The truth hurts doesn't it?

  3. Can't leave Parker alone can you? Thought you were totally wrong about him when his father died, and you are being naive now.

He has been looking after himself all this season, he has been a shadow of the player we saw last season. And he wasn't that great last season either, he just shone above the rest of that pathetic shower of shit that we unfortunately had to support.

And that included for the Forest game where he was on the cusp of a tasty move to your beloved club. What would any of us had done different? Be honest.

Footballers, they get paid too much, they're mercenaries these days and they aren't Saints either. What do you expect HF? Forget him, we all have.

  5. I suspect that Big Sam just didn't include him in the team. It would be his style. If your future doesn't lie with the club, then, your immediate future doesn't lie with the club. If Sam did decide to drop him because it looked certain that he was moving on (or was in the process) then that's something I think we should applaud.

Also, while I've always thought there was some substance in your remarks about Parker, HF, I expect that had he been picked he'd still have tried to give all; it's just like Big Fat Sam, if I'd been manager I'd have left him out.

On a point of order, I've gone to extraordinary lengths to avoid doing a hands-turn on my last week with any employer and I usually steal something before I leave. As a point of principle I insist that I'm drunk from lunchtime onwards on my last day. But maybe that's just me...

  6. LOL Rab. Please let me know that if you ever apply for a post for me! Good to see you back.

I think maybe we can TIS. I think this is the final word. Unless some revelations come out of the woodwork. Maybe Avram will write a "Darling" style book and we will learn about Parker sulks, briefing against other members of the team, throwing his mobile across the dressing room...

  10. HF, Sam was waiting for the moment he could drop him, and that was it. It allowed him to play the team and formation he wanted, with balance in the midfield. And the whole thing worked splendidly.

Parker is a good player, and he may actually find his best form over the next year or so. He looked quite good against Bulgaria, doing the job Capello told him to.

I cant wait til Saturday. Good feeling to have.

  11. Im a Forest fan and can say it was the right decision .. u battered us at home which doesnt happen often!...
As a west ham fan your also naive. Sam probably didnt want to play him, as the transfer fee had been met, if he sustained a nasty injury against us his transfer would have collapsed (and so would the prospective transfers he would have been planning as he would no longer have the money) u do the math!...

  12. It's not as if Parker was not available to play with Forest. Sam decided that under the circumstances it should be best not to select him. So, what's wrong with that? Drop it HF. I hope Spurs get relegated with or without Parker and that we win the game next Saturday. That is all we care about now.

  13. Funny that the wisest comments are coming from a Forest fan (well said Andy NFFC). HF, please move on from your Parker obsession. No one cares any more.

  14. Hf, you told us every transfer window that Parker was leaving for spurs so don't start congratulating yourself simply because the law of averages finally went your way.

I've no need to add any more to the comments regarding you being naive, obsessed and generally wrong go everything you say.

  15. Frankie, the law of averages says something very different. How many players are there in the game? How many of them end up joining Tottenham? How many clubs are there? But Parker still ended up at Spurs. VdV buggered Parker's dream move in August 2010 but his heart was at White Hart Lane all last season, and our relegation suited his purposes perfectly. Last few games...ouch, can't play, fancy watching my new club play Chelsea instead!

  18. Give commendation to Parker for even turning out for your hoofball, 2nd division side at all rather than condemning the man.
Perhaps if you had other players of his tenacity and professionalism last season you might have just stayed up.
