How good did Tottenham's Walker look?

I took issue with the awarding of the MOTM award to Parker on Saturday, but you will hear no quibbles from me about the award going to Walker yesterday. This boy is quick, bloody quick, and he was a revelation on the right hand flank.

It is rare that a player looks immediately at home in an England shirt but Walker played as if he had 50 caps to his name, not one based on a few minutes action against Spain. Defensively, he was close to faultless until the final 10 minutes, and offensively, he was hugely impressive, raiding up the right flank and providing options and space for Walcott and Downing.

A very exciting young England team is emerging. I can't see them winning the European Championship but Jones, Rodwell, Young, Walcott, Wilshire, Rooney, Hart, Welbeck, Smalling, Richards, Cleverley and Walker could form the core of an impressive team for the next World Cup. And unlike the "golden generation", these boys have not been built up into superstars ahead of their time.

Happy days!

  1. Jones looks good, very confident and wont cause problems off the field. Walcott, Rooney and Richards have all under performed for England and never will in my opinion. Young and Walker are promising and Smalling and Cleverly shouldn't be near an England shirt because they don't deserve to be yet. You missed out Wilshere who is alright I guess.

  2. Bloody hell, so I did, I'll add him! Walcott and Richards are maturing. Rooney is special. He will win us a World Cup! And Wilshire will too!

  5. Rooney doesn't appear to have the right head for England games IMHO

  6. I think Rooney will forever disappoint on the field, like Beckham. I currently have Johnson behind Richards and Walker, however why have we know established centre back pairing? May I also add, Barry has become twice the player since the Arab money.

what's good for the goose( parker) is good for the gander (walker)His passing at times was woeful and gave the ball away too many times but given that full back's job is largely to tackle, he looks to be a better bet than Johnson or anyone else. And yes he's quick.

  8. He looked "good" HF. However, I (sadly) monitored his performance extremely closely at the start of the 2nd half, mainly as Andy Townsend was waxing lyrical about him, and I trust his judgement as much as Sepps, I digress. Walkers distribution at the start of the 2nd half was woeful. For the first 10-15 mins he couldnt find a white shirt and we were lucky he didnt gift a goal. Fair play to him, he didnt hide, but in my opinion Micah Richards is in the form of his life for City and should be nailed on for the RB slot. Walker is wonderful competition though, however, he needs to keep producing it for the 2nd biggest team in North London. As for Johnson, bye bye. Jones looks "good" too, I worry he may become a "jack of all trades"......Wilshere for me is the real deal and the most exciting talent since Gazza. I'd build my side around him.

  9. To be fair, I thought Johnson had his best game defensively for England against Spain and did burst into the Spanish box on one occasion - and very few managed that! I still think he can do a job on the right of midfield!

Walker did make two or three casual passes in the second half - either because he was tiring or getting cocky. But overall, I was hugely impressed. I thought he and Walcott combined superbly on occasions.

  10. And I have no iidea why Capello doesn't like Micah Richards by the way, I think he is one hell of a player! Richards, Walker, Johnson, Jones, Smalling...right backs are like London buses it seems. Remember when Neville did he metatarsal and we ended up with Danny Mills at right back?
