Despite headlines to the contrary on News Now, I am pleased to report that David Gold is not dead - well not the one that owns West Ham anyway. Another David Gold is dead, but he was not the frontman of West Ham United, he was the front man of "Woods of Ypres".
Seems tough on the David Gold who is dead because he was only 31, whereas our David Gold is more than twice that age. But being selfish here, it's a bloody relief that our David Gold hasn't shuffled off this mortal coil because that would leave Sullivan in sole control, and that is a frightening thought!
So David Gold lives on, whereas Prince Philip...
The David Gold "who is dead" was a very talented Canadian who's tragic death leaves a void in our music history. Not only are you being selfish but you are be inconsiderate to his fans by making these flippant remarks & being "pleased to report"... Have a little respect to those who are serching the internet looking for information about our "golden" boy's passing... This blog entry is a hurtful thing to stumble upon in our grief :(
ReplyDeleteWoods of Ypres are a band I like. He actually taught at a high school in Kuwait for a short time before they got signed and was good friends with a close friend of mine. Shame..
ReplyDeleteI do not say that I am pleased to report that David Gold is dead, my words are "Despite headlines to the contrary on News Now, I am pleased to report that David Gold is not dead". With regard to your David Gold, I write "Seems tough on the David Gold who is dead because he was only 31".
ReplyDeleteHF- why not delete this particular post. The lad who died obviously meant a lot to others so please just for once give it a rest. You're embarrassing yourself and our club with this.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing offensive here. The one who might be a bit upset is poor David Gold as he reads on News Now boards that he has passed away. I can only imagine his relief as he reads this article and discovers that he is not dead after all!
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame that the other David Gold is dead. 31 is too young to die.
You are a major asshole, looking through your blog you obviously are devoid of any feeling of sympathy towards any human beings. Typical British arrogance and tastelessness, shame on you and the people who follow you. You should be deeply ashamed of yourself.
ReplyDeleteChristsakes Dude! WTF is your problem? you sicken me and I daresay all Dave's fans and family.
ReplyDeleteDude? Do people really still say "Dude"? Have you come through some time tunnel from the 1970s?
ReplyDeleteDear God, what is the problem here? One David Gold is dead, another is alive. Our David Gold lives on, that's all I'm saying!
12 10 here again. Baiting the grieving fans of a young man is is low even for you HF.
ReplyDeleteYou don't know when to stop so a bit of advice. Now would be a good time.
No baiting here. Please explain how this is baiting. I genuinely thought our David Gold had died when I first saw the headline on News Now.
ReplyDeleteNo HF. That's it from me on this one. If you don't know when to stop I do.
ReplyDeleteOuch, HF.
ReplyDeleteNot too often I agree with those criticising you. This time, for what it's worth, I do.
The post is in bad taste, mate.
Happy Christmas to you and yours, btw.
Good.
ReplyDeleteAnd you mate!
ReplyDeleteStill don't understand why by the way. I bet in a few year's time, fans of WofY will be claiming DG is not dead. And they are right, for his music will live on!
Come on HF, I expect you to be more cultured than this. And another thing, it's OK to admit your mistakes and correct things rather than carrying on stubbornly.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas from Australia you sick pom bar steward. Have some respect for peoples feelings.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to my friend in Australia!
ReplyDeleteAnd what are you complaining about Stani? Tell me, is the article true? If so, what's the issue? I didn't kill the guy did I?
HF, stop.
ReplyDeleteAn hour away from home,
ReplyDeleteThe lights come on.
Standing at the side of the road,
I am in awe.
Amongst the snow and trees,
The freezing cold,
I thrive on each sorrowful note.
For the moment, all is still,
A tranquil pace.
The ease of being stranded,
In this compassionate place
Amongst the snow and trees,
The air is cold and clean,
and for the moment, I am at peace.
Being able to enjoy a disaster
is a sham of being so optimistic.
Now that the thrill has worn off,
and the adventure has lost it's charm,
I just want to go home.
Still waiting at the side of the road,
The hours have passed, since I last moved.
Head down, eyes closed,
Into a suspended sleep I fall.
Then in sequence, from far to near,
Light reflects off of objects before...
A sun, of the darkest blues,
Rises from the hills behind...
19:19 very funny HF - I guess you must have known the guy died skidding off the road in ice on his way home - hilarious! I love this blog and the way you cock a snoot at the PC brigade. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I am actually with HF here! There is not one part of his post that if offensive to the deceased family or friend! He is merely pointing out that the David Gold who has passed is NOT the David Gold who part owns West Ham! To come on the WEST HAM page of NewsNow and see the headline 'David Gold Dead' - I can see many people getting the wrong impression!
ReplyDeleteIt's not often that I agree with things HF says, but if you read the post carefully, there is NO baiting and NO disrespect!
Get over yourselves! Coming from someone who lost a family member 2 days ago, I can totally understand grief but it's not HF's fault my family member died and it's not his fault this Canadian metal star died either!
Cheers ClaretNBlues. Must admit, I was amazed by the response!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes Big Phil, I did. Amazing how apposite Mr Gold's lyrics are. There will be those who claim he knew what was coming!
16.02 - you're actually 100 years out. The term "dude" was first used in print in 1870, in Putnam's Magazine.
ReplyDeleteIt use is common amongst stoners, surfers, metal heads and skaters.
1981 - Quincy Jones releases his album The Dude
1985 - Less Than Zero (a novel by Bret Easton Ellis) includes the first published usage of the now-common phrase, "No way, dude!", and the first mainstream display of "dude" having crossed the gender barrier. In a noteworthy scene, a young woman tells her mother, "No way, dude."
1987 - Aerosmith released a song called "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)"
1989 - Hey Dude premiers on Nickelodeon; it would go on to run for three years. The cast of this teenage sitcom set on a dude ranch included Christine Taylor.
1989 - Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, in the future, the world's slogan is "Be excellent to each other. And... PARTY ON, DUDES!"
1996 - Britpop band Kula Shaker titled the first track of their album K "Hey, Dude".
1997 - Less than Jake's song "We're all Dudes" from the soundtrack to the movie Good Burger.
1997 - Blink-182 released an album called Dude Ranch.
1998 - BASEketball, featuring Trey Parker and Matt Stone as two young men who, at one point in the film, have an argument composed entirely of the word "dude," with their inflections conveying the meaning of each instance of the word.
1998 - The Big Lebowski, a film by Joel and Ethan Coen and featured Jeff Bridges as "The Dude" ("or His Dudeness, or Duder, or, you know, El Duderino, if you're not into the whole brevity thing"), an aging hippie/beach bum, turns "Dude" into a philosophy. The film's narrator, an old-fashioned cowboy played by Sam Elliott, insinuates that he considers the term "dude" in its traditional sense, meaning a pretentious city-slicker type, rather than in its more contemporary sense.
2000 - Dude, Where's My Car?, a comedy film directed by Danny Leiner, starring Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott.
2001 - "Dude, you're getting a Dell!", an advertising campaign by Dell Computer Corporation, starring Ben Curtis as "Steven the Dell Dude."
2008 - Bud Light airs an advertising campaign in which the dialogue consists entirely of different inflections of "Dude!" and does not mention the product by name
Guys, calm down. He wasn't insulting David Gold from Woods of Ypres.
ReplyDeleteIs David Gold Dead?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteJust delete your post. You are doing a wonderful job at coming across completely ignorant of the importance of this very talented persons death. I would give anything for this man to be back among us. Many people are being mislead to your post. And I'm doing my best trying not to snap on you for being the absolute inconsiderate fool you seem to be portraying yourself as.
ReplyDeleteLook, your David Gold is dead, our David Gold isn't dead. Simples. When I saw that David Gold was dead on the West Ham Newsnow boards, I thought our David Gold was dead, I hadn't even heard of your David Gold. But the article says nothing terrible about your David Gold. He is dead. End of. Our David Gold isn't dead, so life goes on. I am sure your David Gold was extremely talented and a very worthwhile human being, but I don't suggest otherwise anywhere in my article because my article is about our David Gold being alive!
ReplyDeletePlease remove this post. I, among many other people cared a great deal for the YOUNG man who died so tragically. Please remove your post...if his family stumbled upon this it would break their hearts all over again...I know it did to me. Please...remove your post.
