Did Reading's Kebe get what he deserved?

Coming back from the game, I was listening to 606 and was shocked to hear Savage and co say that Kebe deserved to be assaulted for pretending to pull up his socks. Clarridge joined in on the Football League show, risking allegations of racism when he said that a British player wouldn't do that sort of thing.

Really? I remember Vinny Jones grabbing Gazza by the bollocks and Rodney Marsh "helping an opponent to his feet" by grabbing hold of his hair and yanking him up whilst pretending to lift him by his shoulder at the same time. Didn't George Best tease the opposition? What was Nolan up to at Middlesborough if he wasn't deliberately trying to wind up the opposition? It goes on in every game to some degree, it's just that Kebe was given centre stage by our defenders, treating him as if there was a Falklands War style exclusion zone around him.

Sure it was a piss take, but so what? If everybody reacted to a piss take like Collison did, then stand up comedians would be knocked out every time they took to the stage. No wonder morons come on here hurling abuse every time I make a sardonic comment, if those inside the game - and working for the BBC - defend what Collison did - which was assault an opponent in front of 20,000 plus spectators and a television audience of millions.

Watching live, I couldn't see if it was a scissor tackle or a two handed push, Collison had his back to me and it happened on the far touch line. Television pictures clearly showed that Collison kicked Kebe half way up the shin and shoved him with both hands into the bargain. Was it a full blooded kick? Maybe not but we can't be sure, and if a child followed that example, it could result in a broken leg. And Collison had no thought for the possibility that Kebe might bash his head as he went down over by the touchline.

So, the answer to the question posed by the title is absolutely not! If Di Canio had pulled up his socks like that, we would have loved it. Diamante might have done it too, and we would have cheered. Both "foreigners", of course, so maybe Clarridge had a point, but Sheringham might have pulled the stunt and so might Bobby Gould and Keith Robson. And Nolan whose "chicken dance" celebration is inflammatory in my opinion. Wouldn't Rooney do it? Or Barton?

Collison should be fined heavily for letting himself and the club down.

  1. It's always a matter of the situation. If I had been been in Collisons position I would have fouled Kebe definitely, but not in the way Jack did. It really was bad timing. To seek revenge for such a gesture, an personal insult or an unpunished tackle is just a part of playing football and being human. Just keep calm and wait for the perfect opportunity, get something on the ball and chop down the guy with your sliding challenge. I used to do it this way when I played for my local club and when I played/play with my friends - and so did/do they.
It's always easy to point it out afterwards and condemn the action. But you don't live your life if you overthink everythink - sometimes you should just follow your instincts, in a certain manner of course, even if you made the wrong decision. That process is called learning.

  2. Well Bavarian, you are German! Look at how your lot are taking the Greeks out at the shins. We Brits should behave differently! ; ) (I jest!)

  3. Isn't in each person a little German sometimes ;)

  4. We can do with out reading your bitter and scornful derisions immediately after we lose a game - your mocking, cynical and sneering words make people despise and hate you with a passion.

You let down all West Ham fans and you don't even realise it. I have never been to any blog anywhere on the internet - football or otherwise where the host is disliked as much as you are. I challenge you to find a blog where the blogger is loathed more than you are to prove me wrong.

Given the chance I reckon the majority of visitors here would like to knock you out while the rest would happily cheer them on. Personally I'd pay bloody good money to be allowed to do either.

  5. Nobody makes you read them do they? So why do you? And why do you get so angry afterwards? Because I nail it, and almost always nail it, and you feel a fool for not seeing the truth before it punches YOU in the face. If I was wrong you wouldn't care; but I'm right, time and time again. Allardyce has mugged you and you are only just waking up to the fact. Why shoot the messenger? Gun for Doctor Evil instead!

  6. Bigga - grade one chump with nasty side. You enjoy seeing people beaten up - what a psychopath.....over a football team - one that will have big problems back in the PL, because of almost total lack of skills, vision, game reading and pace. And guess what - I'm a long term supporter as well.....letting down fans ffs - what a larf!

  8. If someone took the piss out of you then surely its just human nature to want revenge. Throw in the emotion and pressure of an important football game and bingo - a lot of people would react.

Let me ask the blogger a question - the way you answer some posters on here (and not all of them have been abusive to you)... would you be shocked if they knew who you were/where you lived and went out of their way to seek revenge? I wouldn't.

  9. 20:34 I'll say it again because you weren't listening to what Bigga so eloquently said.

"You make me and from what I can see quite a lot of people angry because.. We can do with out reading your bitter and scornful derisions immediately after we lose a game - your mocking, cynical and sneering words make people despise and hate you with a passion".

It's not because you're "nailing it" we can all see how well we play. Has anyone disagreed with you regarding the performances we've been putting in? You're not telling us anything we don't know. All you do is take the utmost pleasure and delight in us losing and that's what gets up everyone's nose.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I want to knock you out, but I think that was only because you mentioned knocking out in our article.

At the end of the day guys, HF's writings are addictive, as he says you don't have to read his articles or if he really upsets you that much come here at all. I think at the end of the day he is your "guilty pleasure" and your vitriolic posts probably would demonstrate some deep seated anger that a pychiatrist would have a field day with or a lack of confidence to ever speak your mind face to face with your peers. HF loves your attention seeking diatribes and plays you like a bored angler with a fish on the line, so please either calm down or go away and find yourself a life elsewhere.

  11. Addictive?! hahaha you must be mad - you don't read the stuff do you? I have better things to do than read through 7 paragraphs on why Redknapp might or might not have Alzheimer's - which I might add is in extremely poor taste. Personally I find the replies much more entertaining and HF's messiah complex that some half wits actually think is amusing.

    Thanks for your words Tom

  12. Yeah, someone gives us hassle and we wanna react, that IS being part of being human. But let's be honest, it's part of the game and as a player you've got to get over that. Someone gives me hassle in my job and I've got to suck it up and get on with it, and I'm not earning what these chumps are getting paid. Racist attack? I doubt it, let's not throw that straight into the mix. Lack of professionalism and being a bad role model for the kids? No doubt.

  13. 16:22 ARE YOU HF'S BUM CHUM?

  14. So Bigga lets get this straight You don't read the posts just the comments and resulting from that you'd like to knock HF out
So do you always need to go with the crowd? afraid of standing up for yourself by yourself I like HF am a Hammers fan and I therefore have a right to criticise them if you have a problem with West Ham fans giving the team stick you really are supporting the wrong club

  15. Thank you for this - I am glad that I am not the only one incensed by Clarridge's comments on the Football show.
Collinson's reaction was violent conduct, nothing less, and he let the WHUFC fans down badly.
I'm a Reading fan btw - when we won 6-0 in the premiership it was a fantastic sight to see the WHUFC doing the conga!
At the end of the day it's a game of football....things don't go we want it to (for the players, coaching staff, fans...) but that is no reason to assault someone for a 'perceived slight'

HF's bum chum, 02.00? Not sure how you got to that conclusion, just stated that If you don't like his writings don't read them, then went on to question the minds of those who get so worked up about him. Of course it seems that it passes you by that HF plays many of you simpletons for his own pleasure, so if stating these points makes me HF's bum chum in your little mind, I guess I won't get too worked up about it!
HF, what are you doing later sweetie xx
