What our subs bench tells us!

Faye, O'Neil, Baldock, Lansbury and Carew - all five would walk into the first team of 18 or 19 of the 24 teams in the Championship. Add to that lot Taylor, who was injured, and Demel too, and you have to concede that whilst utterly ill equipped to cope with the Prem, we have a pool of players who, with minimal guidance, should be able to walk their way to promotion.

But the strange one was the decision to start the game without a keeper on the bench. I know injuries to keepers are rare, but they do happen, and surely a replacement goalie was a more sensible alternative to either a second striker or a second midfielder.

So what does that tell us? That Allardyce has no confidence in Boffin perhaps? Remember when you lot fell over yourselves to hail him a genius after his first appearance for the club - after I was critical of his all round performance?

Here's two of the replies to my original verdict on Ruud:

Once again a pathetic attempt to court controversy - widely accepted as a great save, in the top three premiership saves of the week on Yahoo. Rather than enjoy it you shoot it (as per usual with anything positive about the club), down in flames. He is forth choice because he is 23, which in case you don't know is incredibly young for a keeper.Quote from a right wing rag that I am sure you subscribe to, the Daily Mail:
"Boffin was unlucky not to mark his debut with a clean sheet";

and from the Org's Wrongy:

Fanny, have u ever played a high level competative (sic) 11 a side game? Have u ever been a goalkeeper? It's very easy to blog when you have no experience in actual football, and i am not talking about your 5 a side on a wednesday (sic) night with the cronies followed by a ruby? Are you a GK boffin? If not, how can u ever try and comment on a new keeper to the Prem???

  1. stech showed more promise then bufoon ever did, I never understood why he wasnt shown any respect when green went down. Whats the point of having youth if you never play them!

  3. Who bought Boffin?

    Maybe Pam's showing signs of not wanting to upset certain players by excluding them from the match day squad?

  4. Lansbury can play in goal

  5. Yeah definitely, there is absolutely no trust in Boffin(which is somehow well founded because Boffin ain't that great). I agree that Stech is a better keeper. Allardyce will always use the we-can-only-have-5-subs-rule type reasoning to justify his decisions.Our youth is getting wasted...

  6. Against Forest,I expect the 5 guys on the bench to start the game. We need some creativity with Lansbury,O'Neill and possibly Baldock upfront.

  7. I'm sure Boffin can play up front 1834, but would you want him to? If Allardyce trusts Lansbury between the sticks more than Boffin, that says it all!
