Our Record Stretching Back Over 17 Games Is Awful!

We keep hearing about a temporary blip as if it is only recently that we have lost form. Cobblers. How many goals have we scored in the last 17 games? Twenty. Digest that fact. Just twenty goals scored in the last 17 competitive matches - and some of those have been penalties! Just twenty goals in 17 games IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP! That is 1.176 goals per game IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP!

How many goals do you think we scored in our last 17 competitive games last season? That would be 28! In the season we finished bottom of the Prem, we scored 8 more goals in our lat 17 games, with Grant as manager, than Allardyce's team have scored over the last 17 games. True eight of those goals were scored against Championship opposition, but we scored them in two games! In fact, Grant's team scored 10 goals in three games against Championship opponents last season! That's half our total from our last 17 games in just three matches! And most West Ham fans call Grant a cnut!

And how many goals have we conceded in our last 17 games? That would be twenty guys.

Played 17, Scored 20, Conceded 20. Is it any wonder that we keep drawing games 1-1? And what has Allardyce done about it? Bemoaned our luck!

One last stat. How many goals did we score per game last season in the Premiership? Remember, that was the dreadful season when we finished rock bottom of the table? Well we averaged 1.13 goals per game, playing against the Manchester Uniteds, the Arsenals, the Chelseas etc. 1.13 goals per game against Premiership defences;  and 1.176 goals against the likes of Doncaster, Millwall and Watford! What a God almighty fcuk up!

  1. I must admit I do think you are abit of a smug twat, BUT you are nearly always right as much as I hate to say it. I've been on your side with this stuff from the start. Graeme Bailey from Sky ('Boro fan) put it perfectly the other day, 'If promotion meant doing it the Sam Allardyce way, would rather stay down. Great point for Boro and fully deserved. West Ham awful to watch.'

  2. your stats are absolutely rubbish!

It doesn't matter if we beat a team by 1 goal or 5, 3 points is 3 points. If we had grant as manager we would be in a worse off position than we are now. FACT.

you missed the most important stat out...how many points have we gained from those last 17 games, which turns out to be 28.

    28/17 = 1.65 points per game.

meaning we are 6 points off our 2 points a game average, both in the last 17 games and the whole season.

look for the positives, a game in hand and we will leapfrog reading in 2nd...

  3. Who can doubt we've got a problem scoring goals? The question is, why?

Clearly something is wrong and my guess is lack of movement/creativity across midfield. The long ball to Cole doesn't seem to work for Cole or Maynard feeding off him, if that's the plan.

It's difficult to see what we can do about it now, with limited options to change, especially with a big money commitment to our captain, Nolan. Faubert will add some pace on the right when he gets back, and maybe Morrison can add a spark, but I'm not expecting miracles.

It's looking like a play off place, but whether or not we're promoted, we'll clearly need to improve next season.

Excellent stuff HF; email the article to Robbie Savage! I suppose you would have to reflect our defensive performance vis a vis this season and last to be fair - that's why we were relegated and a tightened defence is the reason we are still in the game this season. As they say, all good teams are built from the back so that's progress but clearly something's got to change up front or I'll have no quick left to bite come May.

  5. HF these are interesting stats. But there is a very important stay you have conveniently overlooked. How many goals did we concede in the last 17 games last season?

  6. A lot obviously! That's not the point though. The opposition was much tougher!

  7. Yes but our team had more about it. Parker in the middle, ball winning, with hitz providing good service for demba BA. Of course we scored a few. But it's at the other end where Sam has majorly improved us.

  8. LOL You have just cited Parker as an attacking player! This is the same Scott Parker who has scored no goals and made just one assist all season in a Tottenham team bristling with attcking talent is it?

Allardyce has improved us defensively has he? That's by signing two centre backs not good enough for Stoke, a right back not good enough for Bolton and a left back not good enough for Sunderland! What exactly do you think would happen if we played Premiership teams? We would be mullered! Play crap teams and it is easy not to concede. Play crap teams and it should be easy to score. We are conceding as many against crap teams as we score. The conclusion? We ARE a crap team!

  9. Yes yes you are a crap team and that's why you will be playing championship football next season ! At least if u get the Olympic stadium you won't get to see much of it next year
