What a storm in a bloody tea cup. Steve Kean, obviously on the back of a few, mouths off in a bar and, as a throw away response to a question from a fan as to why Allardyce was sacked says, "Because he's a fcuking crook"; and now, allegedly, Doctor Evil is suing him. If true, what an absurd over reaction!
Now I'm not defending Kean here - he comes across as a stereotypical gobby and obnoxious Scot in the You Tube clip - but if Allardyce has really instructed solicitors then it makes you wonder why, exactly, he is so sensitive about the charge. If somebody gobs off in a bar and calls me gay, I'm not going to get upset about it, because I know I'm not homosexual. However, if somebody is trying to keep his sexual urges secret, then he might just take issue mightn't he?
Now I am NOT saying Allardyce is a crook nor that this was the reason why Blackburn sacked him. The ultra cautious response of the press to this story suggests that would be a very, very silly thing to do. The BBC tried to make certain allegations stick and, at the end of the day, had to back down. Like 'Arry, Sam is either whiter than white (which very few of us are!) or has a very good pot of whitewash and a very good team of lawyers to direct the decorators on how exactly to apply it!
What I am saying, however, is that this is a needless distraction in the build up to Saturday's game and that Allardyce would have done better to ignore it. Unless, of course, ignoring it would be dangerous for reasons that we do not know and must not speculate about.
On the contrary. Sam would like nothing more than to swap leagues with Kean. This could easily motivate him even more.

ReplyDeleteHmmm in another life I did sport's investigations and did one in 1997, I think, looking at managers and their investment in and relationships with football agents. Sam's son -can't remember his name now - came up; the suggestion was that he acted as a kind of gatekeeper to transfer dealings at Bolton but if he was, he was far from alone .. at least half a dozen managers and their relatives or close friends were involved in similar relationships, Harry's lesser known son for example.
It was morally dubious sure but it comes with the territory in sectors or industries where financial controls are slack, cash is plentiful, where pricing is opaque and competition brutal. Until a scandal comes along or there is a serious political advantage to clamping down on the cultre; it'll go on.
Football has always thrived on gossip but facts are hard to come by.I am not in the least surprised that Sam has come out all guns blazing. He would be mad not to, if you are going to sue someone; there's no point in being circumspect about it.
I agree entirely, he's completely overreacted and I doubt he'd win any action against him anyway as he didn't substantiate his comment at all.
ReplyDeleteThink with your reasoning Hf he is between a rock and a hard place. If he doesn't do anything about it, its because he is guilty, if he does its because he is guilty. Give the guy a break.
ReplyDeleteYou're gay HF!
ReplyDeleteThere was a story going around that Kean did the same thing as Harry did to Billy Bonds.. and got Sam the sack. The motive for Sam would be pure revenge. Good for him.
ReplyDeleteYou've done it now 1716, I'm instructing solicitors!

ReplyDelete9.40 - Unless Kean could prove Allardyce was what he called him then Allardyce would win any case. It would be for Kean to prove his allegation against Allardyce otherwise the law would deem it slander.
If Allardyce is innocent then he should be taking legal steps otherwise mud can stick. I wonder if he'll do the same regarding the ex-agent Harrison who has put out some right old twitter stuff about Bolton's Gartside , Allardyce and co. We'll see.
