Green to QPR

Sounds about right. No decent club needs or wants him. If Fernandes is daft enough to pay Joey Barton £83,000 a week to sit on his arse suspended, and SWP God knows how much to be SWP, then why not pay a King's ransom for England's 666?

If all Green is interested in is the money, then sod him. Go and join another relegation struggle, or perhaps sign up with Spurs to become a permanent understudy.

But Green might like to take into account the fans who have backed him right down the line, hailing him as England's number one even as he was missing crosses, letting in soft goals and getting his positioning all wrong. I would rather have Robinson personally and fancy Jussi as his understudy. If Green wants to join QPR then I will shed no tears. But Norwich, West Ham and QPR says everything that needs to be said about his true international credentials!

  1. Once again you completely underrate green and the fact you want to keepers who make twice as many howlers as green says it all really. Nowhere to be seen on this subject when he was saving us pounts but asoon as he makes a couple mistakes you are all ready to jump aboard the hate rob green bandwagon.

  2. what are you on about fred? robinson has been ridiculously consistent for blackburn and like green has only really made one high profile mistake. but the simple fact is green is terrible from long range and set pieces and he becomes a liability in matches. and off the top of my head, i can't even recall a jussi jaaskelainen mistake.

  3. I do think you are being somewhat unfair here HF. Green has been a great servant for us and really hasn't been paid to the value of what he has brought us, whilst some of the waste to have worn C&B, ie Carew, Picquonne, have managed to get far more for no return. I would rather Green in goal than any other Premier League goalkeeper and if the likes of those mentioned above we're worth £40+ plus per week then he should at least be on that and Sam should get that sorted. he is younger and better than Jusskalainen and why replace a promotion winning goalkeeper with one that has just been relegated. 4. Fred, I dont think its a Green hating bandwagon at all. I think wanting Green to stay is as much sentimentality as anything. I remember listening to a radio show before last season and one of the pundits predicted us to be relegated primarily because he thought Green was a weakness we couldnt overcome.

He is good, maybe even very good. But he is not irreplacable, and that is the point. Even Almunia has a far better goals allowed to minutes played ratio than Green and we know how scary that idea is. There are keepers out there that are Green's equal. I hope he stays because consistency is useful and would likely be an emotional lift to some other players. But if not, its fine in my opinion.

  5. Green is not international class. No great loss. If he was a true Hammer he would have signed a contract so that we could at least get a couple of bob for him . More interested in his own pocket than the club . The more I think about ...Good riddance ! .

  6. Some interesting replies already. The interesting thing is that two years back, NO West Ham fans, virtually, would have a word said against Green - in fact I was labelled a Spud and hated on the ORG because I expoused his flaws - but now opinion is certainly divided. I'm not calling him a bad keeper, and never have, but he is somewhere between average and good in my book, and to be international class, you have to be very good. Yes he makes very good saves, I have always said so, but other aspects of his game are poor, namely: coping with the pressure that comes with big games (witness USA and Ukraine), coming for crosses, kicking (especially under pressure) and positioning, particularly for direct free kicks. Anonymous called him one of tthe top ten keepers in the Prem, I would put him in the top 15. Still means there are worse - like Paddy Kenny!

  7. Like Hf trys making green sound alot worse then he is. if you watch robinson he lets alot of goals at his near post and has consistently let in shots that shouldnt of gone in. If he has bee nbad from crosses this year why have we let in a lot less headers from last year, because green comes and collects alot of crosses with ease. Jussi was out of the bolton team before he got injured because of missed crosses leading to goals easy saves going in to the goal and once again alot of goals went in at his near post. USA dave i hope you are not claiming almunia is better then green because almunia i thought was poor in his loan spell here

  8. I cannot speak to the economics of keeping Green: of course there is a level of wage demand that we should not meet. But I have to disagree with HF (unfortunately) and USA Dave (with joyful exuberance!) regarding their view of Green. His howlers (and there have been a few) are more than offset by the saves he makes that most tenders simply do not make. Was he out of position on the Blackpool goal at Wembley? Yes. But how many keepers make the save he did in the third minute? Not many, and if we had gone down 0-1 could we have kept the demons at bay? If he goes, I suspect his replacement will not have the same ability to bale out our defense (though he may have less mistakes) and we may need to think about our line of defense more than we would like in allocating our limited transfer resourses. Finally, he owes us no loyalty with regard to whether he leaves or to whom he goes. The contract he signs this summer will be the one that sets his family up for life financially. I certainly do not begrudge the man for taking advantage when he can, nor do I fault our ownership for letting him go if someone else is willing to pay more than is reasonable for us to pay.

  9. Your finally concentrating on WHU and not QPR. Gone quiet on the slagging of QPR front haven't we, probably because you were wrong and we stayed up.

  10. No mate, you weren't paying attention obviously. I called QPR exactly right. When you were sitting pretty in tenth, I said you would face a struggle to survive - and you lot scoffed; I was right. When it looked seriously hairy, I predicted you would survive, even as lots of gRRRRs were accepting the "inevitable"; and I was right. When you failed to strengthen at the back, I predicted you would regret it, because Nedum and the left back weren't good enough; and I was right. When you signed Cisse and Zamora, however, I said that was good business; and I was right. When you appointed Mark Hughes I said it was a good appointment; and I was right. I said winning at home was the key; and I was right. I also mapped out how you could get to 37 points, saying that would be enough to survive; and I was right again. And finally, I said you would survive based on the failings of three other teams, and you only stayed up because Bolton threw away a two goal lead at home in the penultimate game of the season and then were robbed by an appalling refereeing display in the final game. Right again! So tell me, what did I get wrong exactly?

  11. Finally, the Rob Green thread! I would agree with HF on this one. Green is a good keeper,no doubt but if he goes,I am sure we'll be able to find a better replacement. Personally,I like the guy and hopefully he will only be joining another for the right reasons (not QPR or any other relegation fighting side). It will be interesting to see if Gold and Sully can negociate with him and see if he is willing to stay. Also,I think we should be concentrating on finding better right and left backs at the moment.

  13. God you west ham fans have short memories, how much did you pay a week for the likes of boa morte and Faubert bet there wages wernt cheap, yes SWP and Barton are not my cup of tea but you pay big money these days sadly, whats rob green like ive never rated him as 50 k a week lol I like paddy keeny but don't think he's good enough for prem switches off on occasions simaler to rob green, I think west ham will be alrite next season home form will be vital

  14. Hf rangers have been linked with half the prem leauge I wouldn't look to much in to the green myth if I were you mate

  15. Anony-mouse says,

No point in arguing with you HF about the merits of Green as a player cos we'll never agree. However to replace him will probably cost us a transfer fee and a sizeable one at that if you want an adequate replacement, plus decent players will want a wage probably equal to what Green wants.

The £30 million budget sounds a lot but when you think that it includes transfer fees, wages, agents fees and signing on fees it isn't really. So why bomb a good servant out of the club if replacing him takes a percentage of your crucial transfer budget away? I don't get the logic.

  16. Logic?! when's that ever been important on here?

  17. Easy to say other teams threw points away etc etc, we did it enough times so pointless arguement.

You know you said we'd go down because TF would never spend any money, just admit it!

You also predicted TF wouldn't spend any money in the majority of your posts but your probably going to quote one of your other comments from another thread saying you said TF would spend money now!

I'm just glad your finally concentrating on the team you say you support.

There surely can't be room for love for anyone else in your life when you love yourself so much?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Why not check back to see what I wrote instead of guessing? I never said he wouldn't spend anything, I think, from memory, I predicted he would spend closer to £6m than £20m, and I think I was right again.

Your argument about throwing away points misses the point. The target to avoid the drop is 38 points and QPR failed to achieve that. Therefore you survived because there were three weak teams in the division. When you can't even average a point a game, you deserve to go down. Don't you agree?

  19. We have been linked with 5 keepers alone hf and believe me hf Rob green is way down the list yes we got off by the skin of our teeth but if you think we struggled mate I look forward to seeing how your hammers get on good luck

  20. I'm calling bullshit HF. You said you guaranteed (thats guaranteed that TF would spend LESS than five million. we spent 15 and brought in two loans with permanent fees attached one of which has been activated. Also onohua and taiwo made our defence much more secure.
