Glasgow Rangers Arrogance Matched Only By SPL Stupidity!

Glasgow Rangers fans and riot police clash

Who says turkeys don't vote for Christmas? They do in Scotland it seems! Which is a bit of a worry when there's a  referendum on Scottish self annihilation in the offing!

Talk about the game's gone crazy. It sure as hell has north of Hadrian's Wall! With the new Rangers rising, Kieron Dyer like, out of the ashes, there seemed to be an assumption down Ibrox way that rival clubs would wave them happily back into the SPL. Go ahead Gers, play your fife pipes and march around our grounds in your orange sashes until our walls come tumbling down why don't ye? Go ahead Gers, hang an effigy of the Pope outside our stadium and tear up our town, pissing all down our High Street on a Saturday afternoon why don't ye?

But amazingly, the other clubs have said, "Hang on, allow the second biggest club in Scotland back into the SPL when we don't have to? Give up automatic European qualification so Rangers can take a place? Extend a helping hand to the arrogant bully boy tossers who wouldn't field a Catholic until it dawned on them that most of the footballing world were Romans? Why the Falkirk FC would we do a stupid thing like that?"

But, of course, the alternative is every bit as catastrophic as Scotland voting for independence! This is a whisky manufacturing "nation" that can't organise a piss up in a distillery, a football loving "country" that can't sustain two profit making football teams, never mind a competitive league.

Without Rangers, what is the SPL? A walk over! Why would anybody want to watch Scottish football now? How on earth can the TV companies market a foregone conclusion? Next season will be like a Jane Austen novel, "A Tale of the Totally Predictable". Will bookmakers even open a book on who will win the title or will every book involve "betting without the favourite"? The Bhoys will be delighting in the misery of the Gers but they could be hanging themselves by their own hoops as they kill the goose that lays the golden egg!

And what should Rangers do now? If they have any sense, apply to join the Football Conference. In ten years time they could be in the English Premiership, cocking a snoop at Celtic lording it in their SPL Lillyput. In fact, if they have any sense, they will buy a piece of land just over the border ready to build a new stadium in case the whole nation follows the SPL example and elects to mount it's own gibbet before yelling "Och aye the nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!"

  2. wow could you be any more pedantic in what you say ? yes Scotland doesnt have the money footballing wise but thats because of the way sky distribute its funding. How is a league supposed to get any better if they on give 80 million to 12 teams over a five year period ?

They are the piriahs of football worldwide they should change their name to BNP FC

  4. Afraid you don't know the situation - if you tried reading the Scottish Newspapers it wouldn't actually help either.
Rangers are now in the liquidation process due to financial mismanagement over many years, resulting in "Sir" David Murray handing over the keys for £1, so long as Lloyds bank got their £18Million - simple? You go to Ticketus, give them an amazing slice of 4 seasons ticket money, get into the Champions league and everything is rosy... it didn't happen... Tax wasn't paid (to the tune of £15Million in one season) several other Tax bills appear... anyway the list goes on... Rangers brought this on themselves.
Just because someone bought the assets doesn't make it Rangers (If I buy your house, does that make me you!?) a rebranding is occurring by the owners of the assets - why not, but voting a brand new team into the Top league? You think this is sporting integrity? In Scotland last season, Kilmarnock won the League cup and Hearts beat Hibs in the Scottish cup final... Celtic did win the league in a bit of a canter... but how many times has Man United won the EPL? Only in the last 2 years has the top 4 in the EPL had an unfamiliar ring to it... I hope West Ham have much success as they've also suffered through financial mismanagement, the difference is, someone at least came in to save you before you were liquidated, you never had to apply for a FA licence etc. This Newco requires 3 years of submitted accounts before it can enter European competition as does ALL new teams. These are the facts, most of the facts re: illegal contracts were known for 2-3 years... the Mainstream media in Scotland ignored it all, the fans ignored it and it's now too late.
It's a sad state of affair for the many decent fans (you listed out some of their recent history, including an anti-catholic signing policy) unfortunately for them it failed, Scottish football will survive, attendances were up last season (although were nose diving at Ibrox for a while) Thankfully the real fans are coming out in droves and who knows some younsters will get a chance, you might even see a new McAvennie emerge some day.

Good luck, but please (as hard as it is in this case) present the facts...

  11. I agree with the gist of your article that the SPL Turkey's did indeed vote for Xmas, however I am dismayed to see that you have bought into the much peddled myth of Rangers fans as some sort of Uber-Protestant stereotype.

Whilst unionism and indeed protestantism is a part of Rangers cultural identity, it's nonsense to suggest that the club in any way shape or form supports a sectarian agenda.

I find it galling to have to take lectures on supporter behaviour from West Ham fans, who have been long in the vanguard of English football hooliganism. Even so I'm not crass enough to suggest that this characterises ALL West Ham fans.

If you had ever been to a Rangers match you would see that the image you have portrayed is far from the truth, and the reality is that, rather than pish, Rangers and our supporters pour vast amounts of money into the High streets of other Scottish towns and indeed Scottish football in general.

  12. You could do yourself a big favour and learn about the history of Rangers fans instead of spouting off shite about effigys of the Pope.

  13. The club formerly known as Rangers are bad. They stole the tax payers' money, cheated by playing ineligible players for 10 years and now won't say sorry. Goodbye Rangers. I hope Div 3 won't even have you. Your grandchildren will be Celtic fans

  14. Quite obvious who the biggest is !

  16. Rangers reserves must be the biggest.

    ReplyDelete
  17. You use rather crude sectarian stereotypes, perhaps intended in a humourous sense, but failing miserably.

However, Rangers fans were not thinking that this is a done deal. Do some research and see what they themselves said. We are all too aware of the dislike and hatred aimed at our club from both rival fans and the media.

What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger and we will return, however long that takes, to continue this club's 140 year ongoing history. (I assume you'll counter this remark, but do your research first, since I most certainly have done mine).

  18. Seriously, do you think the Conference would accept them? And if so, why not The Foitball League? It would be great for their TV revenue, and if its all about money now who caresabout logic, tradition, or even fairness. Throw them into League 1 for the hell of it.

  22. This is not only factual tripe but bordering on racist tripe . The SPL will be rebranded and the SFA /SFL will change the league setup after one season to find a way to include Rangers and the other clubs who will go into administration . Meanwhile the rest of the Scottish clubs will get rid of their top earners and by definition their best players so they can stay in business and the already poor standard of the game north of the border will decline even further . Celtic meanwhile will struggle to attract players that would improve their club and while they will dominate domestically they will steadily get worse in European terms . The co-efficient of Scottish teams will get steadily worse and fewer and fewer Scottish clubs will qualify for European competition which in turn will reduce their revenues and profile leading to reduction of TV money .

Rangers should never have applied to rejoin the SPL , if they had any honour they would have applied to join division 3 of the Scottish league . As for moving to England I feel they are better dealing with their problems now and getting past them . It will stand them in good stead when SKY eventually pull the plug and the house of cards that is English football comes tumbling down .

    ReplyDelete
  23. You seem to think that Scotland has always been a two club race. Before Rangers started their financial dopping clubs like Dundee Uth and Aberdeen did well domestically and in Europe. As foir the premeirship it will be a one horse Manchester City against the rest. You don't know what your are talking about. the Scottish 1st division is the most competitive league in Britain. We don't need ir want Rangers in our league either.

  27. While you're right about Rangers you don't have enough knowledge of the background to this whole situation. It goes back roughly 25 years and there are many threads to the whole story that would take a very long time to explain.

The SPL will suffer short-term problems but it's not like it can get much worse anyway. In the long run, Scottish football should benefit from Rangers' demise.

And the Scottish club is obviously Celtic. Maybe not in Scotland itself, but certainly around the world. Rangers had to spend other peoples' money and dodge tax just to compete with Celtic, who were playing by the rules. Unlike Rangers, Celtic have a worldwide fanbase. Rangers claim they do because they have a superiority complex and can't accept Celtic being bigger or better (hence the overspending, cheating etc.). But, the worldwide fanbase of Rangers is a myth and was even admitted by Hugh Adam, the former Rangers director.

  28. "the second biggest club in scotland"

I know, I know, I shouldn't bite, the author is clealry a buffoon out to do a spot of fising, but here goes anyway - Rangers FC, a team who took a quarter of a million to an away game in Manchester, are by far and away the largest (and most succesful) club in Scotland.

Only a fool or an embittered Celtic fan would suggest otherwise.

And with his talk of orange sashes and public urination, I'd assume it's a good bet that the author is either one or both.

WE ARE THE PEOPLE - AND ALWAYS WILL BE

  34. FIFA rules expressly forbid a team from one country playing in another country's league. Teams like Swansea and Cardiff were "grandfathered" in because they were already members of the league, but there's no provision for clubs from one nation to join or play in another nation's league -- so that idea is just pie in the sky, I'm afraid.

This limited championship rated club don't even have a say in English football, so why oh why do they think they can comment on Scotish football. Most countries major leagues in europe have had to cut their cloth to suit due to the lack of monies available with the exception of the EPL. They could only dream of having a support like both Glasgow GIANTS.

  47. I like west ham but this shows the usual English arrogance and ignorance when it comes to Scotland are you basically saying that the number of rule infringements and stealing money from hospitals and schools for years and basic cheating should go unpunished these guys broke the rules and need to be shown to be punished unlike England when for instance spurs and Swindon were both found guilty of financial irregularities Swindon was relegated 2 divisions and spurs well nothing

  48. I cannot believe this blog you say you will not comment on anything racist sectarian well this article about Glasgow rangers and the Scottish people is as close as it comes to racist or sectarian comment to suggest all rangers fans want to oiss in your streets and post effigyys of the pope is just ridiculous as is the comment that we are all whiskey drinking addicts who can't manage a thing let me remind you if it were not for sky tv monry almost half of your mighty league clubs would would now be defunct including your mighty Liverpool and man u who are millions in debt get your own house in order before criticising clubs who only have a fraction of the monies you and your like are accumulating also let me remind you that in the 140 year history of Glasgow rangers they have never been relegated unlike your own mob they are now in danger of that not because of the team but the mismanagement of their custodians there will always be a rangers but if sky withdraw their unequal sharing of tv money there mey never be a west ham you ruin all the good things decent English people try to say ebout Scotland someone may agree with you but it certainly won't be me although you may be right in one context Scottish football will be all the poorer without the mighty Glasgow rangers
