So, short on news, as we all are at the moment, the Metro rejects the lazy KUMB approach of recycling the Ronaldinho story from last year and the year before and the year before that too, and instead trots out the Tomkins story last run in January. Well it's sitting there on the hard drive, touch it up a bit and hey presto, easy copy! Chuck in the name of Rob Green - let's face it, he's going somewhere - and stir the pot by mentioning 'Arry a few times, and you have the perfect story to titillate the London readership.
Then sit back and watch the story recycled as lazy journos and staff writers for bookmakers pick up on the story and recycle it, over and over and over. By the end of the process, the journalist responsible for the total shite probably begins to believe his own bullshit.
And sadly, it's done with no panache and no humour. It's just a pathetic way to fill up blank pages in a paper and to get hits on the net. Makes you wonder if these guys have a life doesn't it?
Anyway, will Spurs buy Tomkins this summer? Over Sullivan's and Gold's dead bodies! The guy signed a contract extension in January and whilst I'm sure there is a release clause or two in there, I'm bloody sure the figure is set high enough to put Levy off for now. That's not to say that Spurs wouldn't come sniffing in January if Tomkins stars in the Prem but for now, unless Tottenham suddenly find themselves flush with cash from the sale of one or two of their superstars, 'Arry will be looking for players who come with guarantees. JT may be the real deal but even Reid and Faye looked quality in the Championship!
the way he has improved, his ability in the air in both boxes, his age, contract extesion all put together must rate him at 15m, we should be looking at signing dawson from wba, 22, a powerful young cb that got 19 goals in 2 seasons for rochdale and 4 in 5 for england u21, im sure they would sell at the right price
ReplyDeleteThey'll earn a few bob from the sale of their champions league mugs. They might not need to sell any players.
ReplyDeleteI think the thing tomkins has on his side is the fact he has played in the prem before and hasnt exactly done bad, hes had a few shockers but a few brilliant games in the prem aswell. What he does need though is an experienced prem quality center back like scott dann or roger johnson next to him so the pressure isnt always on him.
ReplyDeleteyou mean the same dann and johnson that have spent 2 seasons in the premiership each...and both been relegated...every time
ReplyDeletescott dann and roger johnson also when paired together for a season when ridgewell was with them at left back got birmingham comfortably mid table and they roger johnson only got relegated with wolves cuz they sacked mick maccarthy
