Giggs Fails In Responsibility As Team GB Captain

Staying silent: Welsh footballers Ryan Giggs, (pictured) and Craig Bellamy were criticised for failing to sing the National Anthem at the first British men¿s football match of the Olympics

What an arrogant twat. Now I will admit from the off that I am not a monarchist, but I'm also an atheist and still bow my head if in Church for the Lord's Prayer and sing along with the hymms. It is what is known as showing respect.

Sadly Giggs does not seem to understand the meaning of the word. Pearce went out on a limb for him, appointing him captain and leaving out the fiercely loyal and patriotic Beckham in the process. So how does the tosser respond? By refusing to sing the National Anthem for the opening fixture of the Olympics in the year of the Queen's Jubilee.

I don't care about his politics. He is the captain of the Great Britain team and whether he likes it or not, the Queen is our Head of State. And what is more, as a republican, I am willing to accept that if there were to be a referendum, an overwhelming majority would vote to retain the monarchy. If Giggs doesn't like being part of Great Britain, he shouldn't have accepted the captaincy of the team.

Pearce should strip him of the armband immediately and offer a public apology to Beckham for overlooking him. Today's result showed that we don't stand a cat in hell's chance of winning the competition anyway so any argument about selecting the strongest team is academic. Giggs demonstrated what a contemptible individual he is when he took out that Super Injuction and regularly missed Wales games, even before his arrogant decision to retire from international football, showing how he puts himself before his country, let alone Great Britain.

Beckham would have thrust out his chest and sung the anthem with pride rather than shame the nation. He should have been named captain. End of argument.

  1. National anthem and captaincy aside, that crowd and even the GB players were craving for Beckham on the pitch. Totally dead atmosphere.

I'm sure the likes of Bale would have loved to play alongside Beckham. Wouldn't be surprised if Bale's change of heart started when he saw that Beckham wasn't getting picked

  2. Guys, do you want me to set up a fantasy league now that we're up? The official PL one is a truer test than the championship one we did last year. Let me know. If I get enough people I'll set it up

  3. Wow - GB were more Ghastly Boring and indirect than England!

    Is anyone surprised out there?

Give them all a refund at Old Trafford - as this was a real "Mickey Take" out of the paying public.

  7. A disgrace, that what is is. Pearce didn't want anyone taking him out of the limelight. Beckham would have dominated the occasion and would have been a far more worthy captain. Would it have affected the result though? Probably not, we saw enough at the recent Brazil game to prove that this mediocre group of international has-beens, never was's and never will be's have no chance of gold, or silver or bronze. But there they were the 'nearly men, when what they were really hoping for was a further bargaining tool at their next club contract renewal.
Cynical? Moi? Certainly, but no more so than that bunch of prima donna's. Forget Pearce and his not-so-merry-men and get behind the girls instead.

  8. Giggs was awful . Wrong man for the job, past it , no pace , no authority , a complete waste of space.

  9. Why the obsession with Beckham playing - it was his choice to retire himself by going to play sub-standard football in the US to make himself even richer. If he'd put his sporting career first then I'd sympathise but he's been more interested in celebrity and cash for years and so doesn't deserve a place in the squad.

And I seriously doubt players like Bale give a monkeys whether he's playing or not.

  10. You don't have to bow your head for the lords prayer HF. No one will take offence if you hold your head up high for once. Respect is also the name of an anti racism campaign and a song by that choc ice aretha franklin.

  12. Is that all you've got to pick on hf? Talk about scraping the barrel for something to comment on. Who cares whether anyone sang the words to an ode to a family of parasites? Hopefully the more people who object to that obscenity of an anthem the sooner we can get rid of it. If you take the time to look at the other verses instead of making cretinous posts you may even agree.

  13. Singing the National Anthem is entirely a personal decision. If Giggs, a Welshman, doesnt want to sing about saving your Crumby old Queen then why the hell should he?

Respect individuality. False patriotism is for the Yanks. Wake up Hammersfan you daft clot!

  15. Dave,
It is mate. If you go to 'contact' and fill in that form, that message will come directly to me.

    Turds,
I didn't know they did one. Have you played it before? Is it any good? Why dont you give the official one a go, I think you'll enjoy it. I think it has the most facets to it of all the fanatsy games out there, hence is a truer test. Have a read up, if not then I dont mind joining that if you set one up. I'll set this one up too.

I'll do that and post it Fred.
