Old Man McCartney Brings Curtain Down In Olympic Stadium

Highly predictable and sadly rather naff - the old boy has seen far better days and, in consequence, failed to live up to his top billing. That and the fact it was two hours too long apart, the Opening Ceremony was a triumph. How magnificent was the lighting of the torch? Fair brought a tear to this old cynic's eye.

But let's hope that old man McCartney performing poorly in the Olympic Stadium is not an omen for the future. George surely won't be our left back by then, will he?

  1. Sadly have to agree. And why do we have to endure 'Hey Jude' when 'All You Need Is Love' is so clearly the right choice. John must be turning in his grave. But that said, I would have been quite content to let it finish with Pink Floyd...

  3. Yep 0125, it SHOULD have ended with Pink Floyd. Can you imagine a track following Eclipse on the album? Mind you "and the Sun is eclipsed by the Moon" is a bit of an odd choice when you think about it!

  4. Personally I'd rather it had ended with a bout of jumping jack flash. That would have blown the bollocks off 'hay Jude'. Plus they could have finished it off by lighting those giant ash trays with a Keith Richards fag end.

  5. Not often you'll find me congratulating you fellah. But this time, I'll give you a standing ovation for watching that load of old bollocks all the way to the end. Turned off, myself, after the excrutiatingly embarrassing Mr.Bean farce, to see the highlights the following morning, of some prick called Beckham trying to look cool, without falling into the water handing over the torch. 5 seconds shown of fireworks, seen it all before every New Year, and the Olympic Rings Entwined look fair. Let's be honest here, only Hammers fans are gonna crow about Bubbles being a big thing for the Olympics. I'm trying to imagine the Chinese/ Russian or African commentators trying to explain the significance to their tv audience

  6. Hi Dave you old curmudgeon! How's your emigration plans? I'm off to Bucharest for a year or two, are you still thinking of escaping to Spain or has Bill's fate put you off?

I thought some of the Opening Ceremony was superb and I enjoyed the Mr Bean bit (must be going soft in old age!). But as you say, God knows what the rest of the world made of it! Brunel reciting The Tempest! 90% of the Brits wouldn't have understood what was being said, never mind jolly foreigner!
