Championship Looking A Lottery Already

Just two games played and only one team, Blackpool, have a 100% record, with just 6 other teams, Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton, Blackburn, Ipswich, Nottingham Forest and Cardiff still unbeaten. Leeds, Wolves, Bolton and Leicester have slipped up already and Birmingham, Derby and Brighton have all started poorly.

The usual guff will be trotted out about what a tough league this is, but the truth of the matter is that all the teams are much of a muchness, mediocrity prevails and any team that is half decent could storm the division.

Will Blackpool last the course? I doubt it. Defensively they are weak. So who will emerge from the pack? Forest have strengthened since the takeover and Ipswich look a good bet to me. Cardiff are always there or there abouts so should be in with a shout. But my favourites at this stage would be Blackburn, unless Wolves invest the £24m from the sale of Jarvis and Fletcher wisely.

It promises to be a fascinating season. The quality will be poor but there could be surprise results aplenty. That said, any team that makes it up will struggle in the Prem without massive investment. Talking of which, where are we with the Leeds take over? Tomorrow yet again?

    1. I would argue that the fact they didn't do so well in the premier league is the reason they are in the championship in the first place.

  6. You do realise that the picture is a limbo bar don't you. The whole point is that the bar is set low and the lower it is the more proficient you are!

You are an embarrasment to West Ham fans

  7. So - you don't like a little criticism and want to control everything that goes onto your blog. Deep insecurity issues I think.

  8. You do realise that's a limbo bar don't you. Setting the bar low is pretty much the whole point of the exercise.

  11. Limbo bar? Is it? So that's why Warnock signed all those relegated players, he's trying to get under the bar not over it!

0835, we will see how they get on this season. Norwich and QPR are in their second season and haven't started too well. Southampton and Reading haven't won yet. And very few teams stick with the same 11 if promoted do they?

West Ham finished third in a poor division last season and the division is no stronger this.

  14. cmon,
    two games in....making judgements?

All real football fans know the first 5 games and last 5 games of any season produce strange results (top beating bottom etc)

Some teams might have 7 or 8 new players and will take time to gel

Come back with an analysis xmas time

What is West Hams goal for this year? consolidation?

  18. 8.41 there is a very good chance that you could die very slowly of the same disease, it happens to more people up north than down here in the south. You won't be so flippant about cancer when you are taking forever stronger drugs to alleviate the pain racking through your body.
