West Ham Should Buy McCarthy

(Article submitted by Stani)

As the season draws to a close and we begin to look to next season, the goalkeeping position is one we will be looking to strengthen over the summer with Jussi Jasskelainen now in the twilight of his career.

Yesterday I read an article linking us with Brad Guzan, who without doubt is a good goalkeeper. It would be an improvement if we did get him, but how much of an improvement? Though the American international has been keeping Shay Given out of the Aston Villa side, Villa have struggled this season and shipped in a few goals on more than one occasion. Obviously the goalkeeper cannot be entirely blamed for this, but Guzan has always come across – to coin a phrase from an ex-West Ham 'keeper, David James – as a bit camerish to me.

My choice? Well there's one young 'keeper that has really caught my eye in the few appearances he has made this season, and that is Reading's Alex McCarthy. Tall, brave, agile, alert, and just 23 years of age. In my view he will be worth more than £15 million before too long and will be the one to take over from Joe Hart as England's number one. I am astonished he hasn’t already been snapped up by a bigger club, and leaves me quite anxious that we could be missing out on a future superstar.

Manager Sam Allardyce should act now. We have already missed out on another promising young 'keeper in Jack Butland, who signed for Stoke in the January window for a bargain £3.5 million whilst we stood there twiddling our thumbs.

I think we should snap up wigan's sean maloney. in my opinion the best attacking midfielder in the PL outside the top four ( and Bale of course)

  6. I'm going to disagree for two reasons. Firstly, I don't think we can get him as some of the top clubs, including Liverpool apparently have him as a target. That means he will command an inflated price and I'm not convinced he has justified a top ticket price yet.

And secondly, young keepers are a risk. Even Hart makes some very strange mistakes - Carrol's goal anybody? - and I would rather have a mature keeper between the sticks.

Its that time of season again & the clubs will be rubbing there hands together as West Ham secure prem safety so itl be let's get rid of our donkeys ready for West Ham to sign aint it sad when Sullivan comes out with were sign 4 or 5 signings looking at our club I think we need a first choice keeper as Jussi as second choice at least 2 left backs also a centre half & a decent right winger plus a couple of strikers that scores at least 15 - 20 a sesason make us a force for the move to the OS then they should fill the stadium week in but not with team we have

  8. I wouldn't mind Lindegaard to be honest, but I think if he does leave United, he'd have his sights set higher.

Kevin: He's looking better and better. Probably too short for Allardyce's liking...even shorter than Cole. But I've always liked him, ever since his Celtic days.

HF: I think we can get him even if the top teams are after him and for the same reasons Butland went to Stoke...because he wanted to play. We should tell him he'll play. Big teams can't guarantee that. And added to that, we have much better selling points than Stoke...Olympic stadium etc.

Regards your second point...teams like ours have to take theses risks or we will always be pipped to top young talent by bigger clubs. Thats the risk. But I think he's shown enough that he won't be a bad purchase. If we go by what you suggested, we'll always either get average keepers, or keepers that have been above average but are now getting on a bit. Not good enough in my view.

Mostly sensible input here, but all completely outwitted and out thought by the highly intelligent offering of 16.19!

  11. Sullivan needs to sell a lot more dildo's and then we can compete with the big boys , i suggest we try and break into the American market with the massive dildo called Sam , this dildo will be shifting arse holes for years to come , its a tried and tested dildo from Sullivan inc , its been regularly taken in by the gimps on this site

  12. Good keeper. No doubt. But Jussi is still better.

  13. DILDO 13:09 ?

Doesn’t control the box enough for my liking. An “in and out” performer.
Looks a little shaky between the sticks.
