Andy Carroll: Will the FA officially sanction cheating today?

I only saw the Chico Flores-Andy Carroll love tussle for the first time on MOTD2 last night, and on first viewing, I must admit my heart sank. From one angle, Carroll definitely swings his arm back and appears to make contact. And that's the view the referee had.

But seen from the other side, all becomes clear. Yes the arm moves backwards, but not maliciously, and the reaction of Flores is absolutely pathetic.

So now the FA face a challenge. What is more serious, a swinging arm that if it makes contact can result in a broken cheek bone or nose, or out and out cheating? I fear they will stupidly err on the side of personal safety, and in so doing, do untold damage to the game.

The sensible course of action would be for the red to be reduced to a yellow and for Flores to be charged with bringing the game into disrepute. And when found guilty, a significant ban and fine should be imposed because if we do not drive this appalling simulation out of the game then cheating will grow like a cancer.

So, is the risk to the health of one player or the risk to the health of the entire game more important? It's clear what the panel should decide - even Laudrup admits Carroll shouldn't have seen red - but I'm not holding my breath!

Deserves to be banned there was intent to injure. Overreaction from Chico, of course there was but cheating has become part of the game unfortunately. Pundits cover this up when it suits themwith statements like gamesmanship etc. it's cheating. But on this issue there was intent. No question

No one seems concerned that cheeto flores had Andy Carroll in a wrestlers neck hold which could have resulted in a broken neck!

you quite often talk rubbish but in this case I agree 100%

Flores rolled about which was an embarrassment. Nevertheless Carroll tried to remove the top of his head and just because he didn't smash his face in you cannot deny his intent. It is the intent he was sent off and the rules were correctly applied by Howard Webb. Alardyce knows that but Flores has given them the best smoke screen and Alardyce is using it. Graham Poll has warned them about a frivolous appeal and I can see them increasing this to a 4 match.

For the love of all things decent how was that an attempt to remove his head? Some people have a vivid imagination

4 game ban or 3 game ban it will all but relegate us either way so worth the risk. Carroll didnt raise his hands or make enough contact to injure chico. Chico also swung an arm but missed. Carroll had his back to chico and he swung round with no intent to strike him in the face, the intent was to maybe catch him in the stomach, not punch, which is a yellow card. On top of that the referees view was impieded by 2 players. The 3d digital replay thing that allows the game to be viewed from any angle clearly shows webb could not see the incident. What he did see was a tussle and chico rolling around like he's been hit square in the face with a piece of 2x4

Graham Poll is an insignificant attention-seeker, I wouldn’t worry too much about his views.

Wwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy! A blog regarding west ham!! Makes a change from reading endless blogs about other clubs!!!

It appears that Carroll did swing his arm back, but as Flores was behind him, Carroll can justifiably claim he was unaware of the players position. When watched from several viewpoints, it is clear that there was minimal contact, Carroll's arm lightly brushing the top of Flores hair. There has been no mention of the initial foul, by Flores, on Carroll. However, because it is West Ham, the following will happen - 1) The appeal will fail, 2) the ban extended to 4 games, 3) Flores will continue to cheat. Please don't anyone expect honesty or realism - this is the FA we're dealing with. Logic, truth and honesty have no relevance here.

Daz, face or stomach. Intent is intent. Doesn't excuse the rolling about afterward but there is no denying the intent or contact.

No, Howard Webb didn't see it but the linesman did.

Wow all i hear is cheeto flores no1 mentions bradley johnson with loic remy?? Footballers are fairies end of. their was intent and deserved a red what about the elbow to chico from carrol in the 1st half that should of been a yellow and he swung his arm for the second and his face showed intent. carrol needs to learn to keep his elbows and arms to himself he has history ask gary monk when he broke his nose and got away with it. if u dont swing arms players wont roll around play acting

Wow daz he showed intent to maybe catch him in the stomach?? Carrol would of had to been on his knees to hit him in stomach. intent is the letter of law if he caght hom or not. 4 game ban and maybe a charity fighting match chico vs the tramp

I live in Australia. A land where football is the 4th sporting code at best. I get fed up of defending the game from those who consistently use actions like Flores as an excuse to mock our game.
Whether or not Andy Carroll gets his red reduced, Chico Flores should be charged with bringing the game into disrepute and banned for at least the statutory 3 matches that would go with a red card.
If the Premiere League want sto continually grow it's audience around the world they need to stop this play acting in it's tracks now.

I cant believe people are saying the intent was there etc. Is this AFTER chico time had climbed all over him for a piggy back? carroll was angry yes, you could see in his eyes, but no way was there intent to injure.

Try watching a rugby match and compare, its a joke and that anyone in there right mind is defending chico time in the slightest.

I think what chico did was far worse than Carroll, if he gets a 3 match ban surely the diving swan should get double. Far far worse, people like him are fvcking up the game more than anyone.

I would love to actually see gim have an attempt to remove his head! If this is a 3/4 match ban and west Ham go down, this is as big a scandal as the Sheff Utd affair!

Carol failed in overturning the red card!! Shame!!!

Ok lets fill football clubs with out of work actors, as the FA seem to appreciate a good fake death scene. Very sad day for football have totally lost any credibility in letting Flores get off with no action taken.

Anonymous said...

If the FA believed their was intent then red. But how can the FA ignore a cheat. FA could have made a stance and gave Carroll a three game ban and Flores a three game ban or more.

West Ham are shit you plastic cock-a knee turdburglar's. It won't matter weather the useless ponytail boy is banned or not you're still going down. Down, down south where the pansy boys live.

Surely this article should read" Premiership no-hopers lose battle to overturn Carroll dismissal" and now theyve thrown the teddy out of the cot and having gone crying to the Court of Abbritation. Disgracefull pathetic little club that needs to man up!!!!!!!

Pathetic mewlings from Shit ham over Carroll. Relegation nailed on for the smallest club in the capital.

Hey listen, how can you lot call others CHEATS after the Tevez affair all those years ago, what goes around comes around, you get all you deserve, I hope you lot go down. UTB

Anonymous said...

First off, no one cheated. The ref saw a foul and punished the Geordie thug.

Secondly, West Ham are trying to make a legal challenge? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, how pathetic! Take it like men, you Southern wooftas!

I would say there was an intent to let his arm "graze" the top of Flores head. A simple 'slap' to Flores, who then rollsa round like he's been poleaxed, with full grimaces, and auxiliary cheatings from Swansea 'medic'. So for that, a red card for Carroll from Webb, the FA's 'official' ref representative, going to the World Cup etc. No way were the FA EVER going to reverse their decision or even reduce it. Flores - he's a dough brain, but a little bit smarter than Andy, apparently.
As for the Porno boys, more bluster and bullcrap from them, as per usual. What a shower we are these days.....

Why not re sign Tevez and cheat your way out of trouble again, what goes around comes around, prepare for relegation, UTB

HF - you like to slag off anything to do with West Ham. What do you think of this:

I thought you mentioned in your many anti West ham posts that FFP was all a lie to cover up a lack of spending.

Na then matey. Its all gone silent on your blog about the mighty whites of Elland Road!! The Massimo revolutiion is about to take off - why not come back and comment on the real giants of the game as they wake from their slumber. Better than fielding weedy comments on a weedy 4rd tier pub team. Come back 4 a bit of Northern banter pal - spice things up a bit!!
