The Academy of Soccer? Check Out Liverpool First!

Do you remember an article on here from Celtic Hammer that caused a certain stir amongst our Scouser brethren? Celtic warned that the American owners were struggling to refinance the loan used to buy Liverpool and that storm clouds were brewing over Stanley Park.

Well, from what I have read this week, Celtic was not exaggerating the case as the angry Scousers insisted. Despite operating as a club in profit, Liverpool in fact had to finance the debt on the Americans' loans, and so made a loss last season - and this servicing of debt is eating into Rafa's transfer budget for next season. Meanwhile the deadline for that loan is fast approaching and the Americans cannot even agree on whether they should look for a buyer, never mind have a deal in place to sell the club; and nobody wants to lend them the money to keep it going!

These are worrying times in Liverpool and a serious tilt at the Prem next season may well be undermined by the Yanks' debts. Indeed, it seems that Barry was lost to City because they could pay the £12m up front whilst Liverpool could only manage it in installments. Liverpool, struggling to cough up £12m? That really would be a test for Splash the Cash Rafa!

Now there are rumours that the cowboys might be about to ride in to "save the day" at West Ham, just as they rode in to Europe in two World Wars - very late but in time to share the glory. Personally, I would prefer sticking with the Indians if that steel magnate is genuinely interested. True, there isn't a great deal of understanding of the game of Association Football amongst the Indian community but there can't be less than amongst the Yanks. The idea of Upton Park becoming the "Academy of Soccer" sticks in the gullet somewhat!

  1. Splash the cash, Rafa?

He's spent a net 60 million over 5 years, which is nothing compared to the other big clubs in the Prem.

All this rubbish with the Yanks and their debt could turn out to be great for the club, they'll be forced to sell and we'll end up with a decent custodian.

I can't see a lot of people wanting to stump up a great deal for West Ham though, a Championship side, clinging on to top-flight football by the skin of their teeth don't exactly make for an attractive investment, do they?

  2. Well of course Rafa's spending doesn't compare with the Mancs and Chelsea mate, they are GENUINELY big clubs that win things!

£60m to win nowt. Great if you can do it!

  3. Mishun, you talk like a complete and utter twat. Some Championship side that's full of international players that clubs up and down the Premiership would love to have, never mind the manager and his right hand man and I would hardly call 9th place finish hanging on by the skin of teeth, so do us all a favour, go and nick some hud caps and stop posting such shite.

  4. Talking about Liverpool again Hammersfan......Boring mate. By the way what are 'Hud caps'?

  5. 1916, it is about how West Ham should avoid Liverpool's mistakes. Hud caps are what dyslexics fit to their wheels.

  6. Did you not see how the table finished up last season then? We've spent less than a tenth of what Chelsea have spent and we're out-performing them week in, week out in the league and in Europe. Also 'real big clubs'? We're still the most successful club in the country, so I'd keep it down, try piping up again when you've won half of what we have.

How did you work out that it's been £60 million for nowt, it's been £60 million for the Champions League and F.A. Cup. Which, when you take into account the revenue gained from winning in Europe, brings our spent total down to about £40 million. I don't think that's a bad investment overall.

As for that no-mark coward who wouldn't even post with a name: You speak like a typical dumb-as-fuck Iron hoof. When you pluck players from the Congo and Jamaica you can expect them to be 'Internationals' - because there's no other c**t around to compete with them for the places.

I don't see people queueing up to sign Spector or Gabbidon or any of your other reject band of muppets - a couple might be worth 4 or 5 million and if that's the case they'll sod-off to a real club as soon as one comes calling, just like the rest.

Give up talking big when you aren't, it makes you look silly.

  7. Mishun, your use of foul language undermines your argument I'm afraid. Why all the anger? Is it because you now realise Celtic Hammer and this blog were right? Interesting that you are the lone Scouse fan willing to go over the top. There were over 100 replies from indignant Scousers to Celtic's original post, now it seems that all your comrades are hunkering down in the trenches. How many trophies have you won over the last two seasons? Your glory days are history mate, now you are nearly men.

  9. My use of profane language was in reply to the usual dross Iron's that shout their mouths off without anything constructive to say.

You can go on about Liverpool all you like, the more you talk the more it shows how little you've got to interest you within your own club.

We've come close to winning the league on a tiny budget in comparison to other clubs, we compete in Europe EVERY season, we've won trophies in the last 5 years that other clubs have never won and added them to our already capacious trophy room.

Considering West Ham's trophy 'haul' over the last 10 years I wouldn't be so quick to gob-off if I were you. Your blog is just one big, long moan about clubs that are superior to your own.

It's boring. Shout all you want but no one's going to listen until you've won something yourselves, until then your opinion is moot, as it's that of a C-Grade team who don't belong in the top-flight.

  10. You are wrong when you say that the Indian community do not know much about Association Football. We've been playing the sport since the early part of the 20th century and have a professional league in India. It is a very popular sport in India and if the national team did well, then it would surpass cricket as the most popular.

  11. Ha ha ha ha... Liverpool's mistakes eh....and I hear youv'e just been bought out by an Iclandic bank. Whats the saying 'People in glass houses should not throw stones' majic!

  12. We've been bought mate. On the other hand...

  13. Mishun, you need to stop whining, put your stolen hubcaps down and get yourself down the jobcentre to sign on.

But no seriously mate if you dont like this blog fair enough dont lump us all together and call us a second tier club when we both know it simply isnt true. I like Liverpool best out the big four. Its just a laugh mate, banter, I thought scousers practically invented it. Much love, Joe, Basildon.

  14. If you look at my first post, Joe, you'll see that it was far from unpleasant. Then you get a nasty, little aggressive Iron piping up, swearing and things change.

As for banter; I love it, but this blog's done nothing but make comments about Liverpool Football Club, all down to the bitterness of the F.A. Cup Final a couple of years back! Get over it! You were beaten fairly and squarely. Stop talking about other clubs all the time and discuss your own!

  15. Mishun, in the old days Liverpool fans would have laughed it off. All these years of playing second or third or fourth fiddle to the Mancs, Chelsea and Arsenal have left you guys humourless and bitter. You even had to resort to gamesmanship to win that FA Cup! This article is about West Ham anyway!!!!!!!!!

Makes for interesting reading. What's that you say? Financial collapse?

    Enjoy.
