England As Seen By A Man City Fan

(Submitted by an Unreal City fan)

Looking at the England side against Andorra and comparing with the best City side that we could select just now, I asked myself which of the England players would I bring in to replace any players in my best current City lineup of:

Given, Zabaleta, Kompany, Onuoha, Bridge, DeJong, Barry, SWP, Ireland, Robinho, Bedlamy (tough on Dunnie)

Well, I decided that Nedum would go to make way for Terry, Bridge make way for Cole, Bedlamy for Rooney and, a tough one, probably Irish to make way for Gerrard. You could argue Lampard for Barry, but I like Barry's left foot and rather more disciplined approach to defending. With both Gerrard and Lamps in the side, there's too much going forward and not enough solidity in front of the back four.

That means only 4 players get into a side that finished 10th in the Premier League and probably on end of season form was possibly 7th best behind Rags, Sibneft, Pool, Arse, Toffees and Harrods. Villa were in freefall, Spuds and Wham about the same as us. That puts England into perspective for me, fourth favourites for the World Cup say the bookies but probably not good enough to get into the Champions League from the Premier League.

Hammersfan adds: Presumably you would swap Capello for Hughes? I'd have Walcott over SWP, Ferdinand over Kompany and Lampard over De Jong personally mate! And if it is an away game, 'Arry's wife ahead of Ribena! So with Barry playing for both, not much change!

  2. I didn't "do" the article, a City fan emailed it to me. I think the headline and content give that away! Idiot!

  9. Guys, if a City fan submits a post and it stimulates discussion I am happy to run it. Why are you upset? Because I support West Ham? That's a bit silly isn't it? Fans of all colours and creeds are welcome here.

  13. Article seems a bit stupid, i personally, wouldnt replace Ireland with anybody in the world, the only reason Gerrard is so amazing for pool, and lampard is so brill for chelski, is the fact the are loyal and commited to the teams, that they have grown with, and were they have a mutual love of the club and fans, put Gerrard in city, he would look unimpressive compared to him in the pool side.

Ireland is a Gerrard type of player, but younger, he could well be our Gerrard/Lampard of the future, but honestly...

Terry in for Kompany, Cole for Bridge, Lampard OR Gerrard in for De Jong (put Barry back slightly) and then Rooney for Bellamy.

if this was really a city fan, i have no idea how he could replace Ireland with anyone, our best and most promising player in years.

  15. Trueblue, you do make yourself look stupid. The article is intact, as written, apart from one correction the author requested. I have head and topped it but that is clear from the way it is presented. The author is a passionate City fan but says on his email that he enjoys the banter between rival fans, You are too stupid to understand that you can love without hating. I love West Ham but do not hate Tootatthem, Unreal City or any other club (except perhaps Liverpool). I do engage in banter with rival clubs however. I love the name Wham for West Ham - perhaps that's why we do so well against the cottagers!

  18. Actually this is an interesting point if the teenage moronic element, hiding behind their anonymity to be abusive, can be disregarded for a moment. England, and most other international teams would struggle against the best club teams like Barca and Man U.

This has always been the case but these days I find watching England a bit of a bore. When the likes of Peter Crouch and Jermaine Defoe who have done nothing in domestic football, are our goal scoring heroes against Andorra (a country with a population less than was at Wembley) then I have to say that we were watching sub-standard football. This is what I think the Man City fan was saying and he's right.

Rooney is our one forward with genuine class. We might stand a chance in the World Cup if Ashton gets fit next season and he can strike up an understanding with Rooney otherwise forget it.
