West Ham Bids Like London Buses
So, you wait six months and nothing happens, then along come four bids all at the same time. Of course, when four London buses arrive, you generally expect to be allowed to board one of them, but at West Ham, Conductor Bernhardt may yet declare "You're not getting on here" to all four bidders.
Who is this mysterious North American bidder who already has sports interests? We surely need to be very careful here in view of the financial problems at Liverpool and Manchester United. Mind you Randy Lerner shows that some Yanks "get it" when it comes to soccer. Remember back in August there were rumours of Clark Hunt coming in for us? Back then I blogged:
"Is it April the First or is somebody just having an out of season giraffe? Given the possibilities offered by cockney rhyming slang, it would take one thick skinned Clark Hunt to take control of West Ham surely? God help the guy if things ever go wrong whilst he owns the club! With only one forward on the books, no right back and no money to buy anybody, the take over of West Ham certainly looks like a job for Superman!
As much as I detest the idea of being owned by a Yank, at least this guy seems to know something about football and, at 44, he could be here for the longer term. One thing is for sure, he has to be better than CB Only Just Holding Their Heads Above Water. A close season of inactivity in the transfer market has alerted fans to the implications of being a trading chip between bankrupt banks. If we are not to fall hopelessly behind our rivals, we need a new owner faster than sooner!
Hunt comes from the Lone Star State and is a genuinely wealthy guy. The owner of two MLS clubs already, he is an interesting prospective owner. The USA is emerging as a genuine force in world football and the idea of a tie up between the academies of West Ham and Hunt's American clubs is an exciting prospect.
It may all be paper talk of course but this is the most encouraging story I have read for a while. If it is going to happen, let's hope it happens quickly. Who knows, that famous former Newham kid David Beckham might just fancy promoting MLS Soccer in London whilst tuning up for South Africa from January onwards!
Altogether now - Is it a bird, is it a plane, no it's Clark Hunt! Then it's up, up and away! I bet you 'Arry is in the market for a Ukrainian called Kryptonite as we speak!"
Well that second paragraph has proved depressingly prophetic and never mind Lone Star State, if we are not sold soon, we might find ourselves a no star club. Upson replaced by Huth and Cole by Harewood? Perfect for the Fizzy Pop!
Britain has ground to a halt because of the snow but Straumur should be used to the big freeze. Let's hope they decide on their preferred suiter sooner rather than later and strike a deal. Signing Huth and Harewood whilst retaining Upson and Cole would be fine by me; but that isn't going to happen without a take over is it?

Not many buses running today...
David Gold said his pass runs out on 7 Jan, to avoid missing out on the transfer window. Perhaps the "mystery bidders" have been added to the queue to try and increase the ticket price? If nothing happens in the next week or so, I suspect it is going to be a long wait for the next bus.
Hope you are wrong mate!
Yes, a knight on a white horse would be much better but:
a) Intermarket have been in the background for months without any real developments or disclosure about their backers
b) The "American bidder" is a mystery
c) TF is interesting but has said that he has his hands full with F1 and West Ham do not currently represent a good buying opportunity. A sharp U turn will be needed on this one.
d) DG and DS may be the devils we know, but realistically would seem to be our best bet.
It is going to be a big gamble for a new owner to take over without being able to change a few cards in January. More likely they would then wait until the end of the season.
Anyway, I hope I am wrong too...
Pajowa - I think that the 'mystery' Ameican bidder could well be Clark Hunt. He was touted as interested a few months back...
