Crystal Palace Saved At The Eleventh Hour - HOPEFULLY!
Well it went to the wire but it looks as if Crystal Palace will live to fight another day. After avoiding relegation by the skin of their teeth, Palace have also stayed one step ahead of liquidation; for the time being at least. The Eagles were also one of a number of clubs that Sullivan and Gold looked at, so some might say that makes a hat trick of lucky escapes!
All true football fans will be delighted to see Palace come through this nightmare. Yes the ground is a tip, and yes the area isn't a whole lot better (I once lived in Thornton Heath), but Palace have a history and anybody who remembers their team under Venables will wish them well. Ian Wright, Mark Bright, Peter Taylor, Kenny Samson, Geoff Thomas, Gareth Southgate, Alan Pardew, Don Rogers, Steve Kember, Bobby Tambling, Gerry Queen, Tony Taylor, Alan Birchenall (well he was born in East Ham!)...actually there haven't been many greats over the years but Palace under Venables were always better than the sum of their parts, and were good enough to be top of the table at one point, with all the talk of them being the team of the 80s. It never happened. But it never seems to happen according to the script for English clubs in Claret and Blue!
All the best to Palace for the future, let's hope better days are ahead!
Good little read mate. Cheers and all the best for next season. From an emotionally exhausted Palace season ticket holder!

ReplyDeleteI would hate to see Palace go bust, it's a great club - we need to keep all our traditional London clubs thriving for the good of the game. Good luck in the future eagles.
