Stoke's Pulis Denies Cole Rumour
So, surprise, surprise, Carlton Cole is not heading for Stoke City. It always seemed a highly improbable move for Carlton. He needs to feel loved and the confrontational approach of Pulis was never likely to get the best out of him. And why would Carlton go to Stoke anyway? Why take a backward step like that when you have England aspirations?
Meanwhile, Beattie and Kitson are unlikely to be impressed by this comment from Pulis: ""They're both Stoke City players, we still pay them and at the moment they're working as hard as the others to keep fit," said the Stoke manager. "If we need them for next season, we need them for next season." As ringing endorsements go, that aint great is it?
Beattie, it seems, has not been forgiven for resisting Pulis's advances in the shower whilst poor Kitson clashed appallingly with the Stoke away kit. As one commentator on the Org hilariously said, "He looks like a vesta curry!"
The most laughable rumour of all is the one now linking Stoke with Remy! What a joke! I'd love to see Pulis explaining Stoke's tactics to the Frenchman. "Well, we look for second phase ball. We lump the ball into the final third and your job will be to try to win throw ins. Then we have this guy who hurls the ball into the box and we all charge at it and look to connect with it and hope to score from a knock down." Remy would look puzzled and reply, "Mais je joue au football, pas le rugby!"
Nice one about Remy and Stoke. Really what's your take on this HF? Why so much publicity, trips after trips by Sullivan and Brady to France to close the deal and yet weeks pass with no news at all! What is going on here? Something funny don't you think?
ReplyDeletePerhaps you can write your views on this. I would be very interested, as I am sure many more West Ham fans, to know the inside story, if there is one.
I dont think there's an inside story Sav. I think we wanted him but he doesn't want us. He fancies Liverpool or Arsenal. He sure as hell won't fancy Stoke! I'd rather stick with Cole.
ReplyDeleteAs for Sullivan and Brady, perhaps it was a dirty weekend or two on the continent!
Id love to have a dirty weekend with Brady. Liam Brady that is
ReplyDeleteBut how come Sullivan was pursuing this for so long and so aggressively, improving the bid as well as having discussions with the player himself? Obviously, if the player was not interested one would expect that it would not drag on for this long.
ReplyDeleteI understand that Fenerbache made an enquiry, the player responded that he would not go to Turkey and that was the end of that. Why should it be any different with West Ham if he just didn't want to play for us. Either he was fooling us or we were happy to be fooled for some reason. If it's not that, then I am beginning to question the managerial judgement of Sullivan and co.
Sav,
ReplyDeleteIt's because he's applying the dodgy car dealer's philosophy to buying players. He's wanting to do with Remy what he is gonna do with Barrera i.e. sell him on for a nice profit after a year or two.
He always puts our club first does Sulli! Never has such good fortune befallen a club as when Sulli took over at ours.
Just saw this on the Org -
ReplyDeleteThe West Ham - Remy deal has finally been concluded.

(LMFAO)
Dave,
ReplyDeleteA picture tells a thousand words. A cartoon video even more! Perhaps that is the truth of the matter.
Stani,
Perhaps you are right too. I just can't believe the mishandling of this affair by Sullivan and Brady.
I better be on my guard about our new owners. I got a bit carried away by their strong and patriotic words about Parker and all that and forgot to keep my focus on deeds rather than words.
Why has it been mishandled Sav? I think the guy was an option we were exploring but, at the end of the day, it looks like the two clubs and / or the player couldn't reach agreement. That's surely better than linking yourself with a player and neither talking to that player or the club, aka Beckham?
ReplyDeleteSav,
ReplyDeleteYep, never let your guard down. Alarm bells started ringing for me at the first press conference. I know HF did give the two a chance, and I'm not sure where he stands on them now, but the fans that are blindly following them when we can see the tricks these two are playing is concerning. It's up to them though.
HF,
Maybe Sav is referring to mishandling in the sense that had we put in a better offer earlier on (one we eventually put on the table) when no other clubs were linked, Remy may be here now. Maybe it was a bit mishandled in that sense but our Sulli will always try to go for a bargain to maximise that sell-on profit! Bless him.
Why does one need 2-3 weeks and I don't know how many trips to France and how many bids to establish that the player doesn't want to play for us?!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's is the mishandling surely. It took just one telephone for Fenebache to arrive at the same conclusion!
Stani, why would you make your best offer first? Tottenham have started at £7m for Parker! Sav, being Greek, knows you haggle!
ReplyDeleteBloody hell HF! You know I'm not suggesting that! It's not about making your best offer, it's about making a realistic and acceptable offer. Sulli obviously misjudged it and did not do so. That's why it dragged and when other clubs started showing interest he put his other hand in his other pocket. Too late though.
ReplyDelete"All I want is to play in the Man City first team - but if I wasn't I'd have to reconsider,"
ReplyDeleteWe need to get Joe Hart now! Before Wenger gets in on it.
You are confusing two different things. One is make an acceptable offer to the Club (which we finally did - and this confirmed by their Chairman). The other of course is to ask whether the player is even interested in coming to West Ham. My question is why did we wait until now to gather whether the player wants to join us or not? Surely, if we satisfied his club by paying the asking price, then the deal should have been concluded by now. Unless, there is something going on which I don't understand, this whole affair should been better managed by messers Sullivan, Gold and Miss Brady. I gather they were all involved in some time or another during this charade.
ReplyDeleteHF you are confusing the Greeks with the Arabs. We do not haggle. In any case, I think you should know by now, I am not your typical Greek, whatever that may mean.
The Greek hoteliers haggled when I was back packing round the islands mate. They all started off at double the price I ended up paying for a room! The best one was on Naxos. I negotiated a price for a room with a shower. The room had the shower, but the shower didn't have a roof on it! "You said you wanted a shower, you didn't say a shower with a roof". I was bitten to buggery by mosquitos!
ReplyDeleteUnless we have to sell Cole first before we buy Remy. Poor Remy probably wants to join us and like me he is wondering why he is asked come for a medical. I think it is probably a case of we can't buy before we sell rather than whether the player wants to join us or not. That would probably explain the euphoria of publicity regarding the interest of Stoke in buying Cole; and the subsequent denial by Pulis. Now, that's a more plausible theory than better fits the available data. Don't you think?
ReplyDeleteOk. I am sure if you go to small remote places like Naxos you will find this kind of behaviour as you would probably find strange behaviour if you travel around England or remote places anywhere in the world. But it does not typify all the Greeks. I have never encountered this in Greece or Cyprus. But nice story about you in Naxos anyway!
ReplyDelete...and well done to the mosquitoes! ;)
ReplyDeleteA denial in the football world is usually followed by the exact opposite happening. There probably IS no truth in the rumours. Stoke probably only offered four million not 7 or 9 or 15. Expect Cole to go to Stoke (after all no-one else wants him) and Remy to be at Upton Park.
ReplyDeleteNo, Stoke didn't actually make any implausible, undervalued or insulting bids for the player in question in the first place..fact!! Media hype! The oldest chav in the Premiership has now confirmed that!
ReplyDeleteThread closed! :)
