Okay, I know you would have to go some to "better" the error made against the USA. The gaff against Chelsea pushed it close but that one required Upson's contribution to gift a goal to the opposition.
The one against Villa that led to the first goal we conceded this season wasn't in the same league, but is worthy of a mention because of the timing. It was the last thing Green needed in his first competitive game after his World Cup debacle.
Of course, Bolton fans have a scrap book of Green errors. Two at Bolton last season, two against them at Upton Park the season before, and go back to Turds and there was a 1-1 home draw when Green tried to come through a scrum of players to collect a cross above the penalty spot - he didn't get there and Bolton scored!
But never mind all that, after one great save on Saturday, Green supporters are suddenly heralding him as the new Gordon Banks all over again. They forget that Green came for a corner and dropped it BEFORE we scored against Spurs. They forget too that 'Arry, for some reason best known to himself, didn't instruct his players to crowd Green at corners. Mark Hughes will not adopt the same purist approach when Fulham rock up at the weekend!
But that dropped corner was not the howler. The huge mistake that Green made was that rude gesture to the Press Box. Talk about inviting the wrath of God down upon himself! Tell me, what is going to happen if Green drops a clanger against Fulham? How may the pictures of that gesture come back to haunt him beneath headlines of "Up Yours Green!"?
Some will say it was good to see that Rob Green has a fighting spirit but I think it was a dumb thing to do. The journalists didn't let in that goal against the USA, Green did. The journalists didn't spill that Drogba free kick, Green did. The journalists didn't push that cross back into play against Villa, Green did. The Bolton fans don't want to see journalists between our sticks when we play them, they are delighted to see Green there!
Green would have been better advised to get more good games under his belt before making that gesture. If he thought the press were out to get him before, then God help him if he makes another mistake any time soon!
My old man, that was a brilliant reply on the Org! Good enough to be from Fanno himself! Now, I wonder who you might be; as if I didn't know! Very clever mate! Ten out of ten!
ReplyDeleteCheers Fareham for putting Bondsy in his place. The man is a disgrace to the memory of Billy for ducking the Fanno challenge. Bonds would never have ducked a challenge for fear of his opponent having a back up! You want to argue with me Bondsy, then let's be 'aving you! Roll those socks down to your ankles, chuck away the shin pads and lay on!
Flappers, your reply is disappointing. Fanno posted to restore your reputation remember. It was Fanno who told your detractors on the Org that you were not a Hammersfanno1 alias. I would have NO IDEA how to hack into an account and I did no such thing; why would I do that to Bill? What rubbish! Your argument is not with Fanno, it is with Mr Orange or whatever he was called. You thought that was Fanno because you have Fanno paranoia! That guy was after Irons Germany, not you; and he pretty effectively silenced him too from what I can see. But that was nothing to do with me. That is real enmity; the two knew each other in REAL life! Anyway, hope the job is going well. Bloody good job you found one when you did because the ConDemns won't be paying benefits to people who refuse to work for the minimum wage - and, as a tax payer, I say, bloody good job too!
Green had his best game in ages on Saturday and I (like many other WH fans) am delighted for him.
ReplyDeleteI'd much rather use that performance as an opportunity to praise him and build his confidence rather than wait to pounce on his next potential mistake.
Of all people, I would have thought that you, HF, would appreciate Green's gesture to the press box.
You get attacked on here on a regular basis for your ridiculous conspiracy theories and failed predictions but always come back fighting and defend your corner even though you often look stupid the following day/week when you're proved wrong (e.g. you told us Parker was being sold about five times a day for the entire summer).
At least he's come out fighting now. Let's fight with him rather than analyse and criticise his every move.
The usual gibberish present I see.
ReplyDelete1801, that was gibberish. Please explain what you were TRYING to say!
ReplyDelete1759, I'm not paid to keep goal for West Ham am I? If I make a mistake, so what? You don't pay to read my opinions do you? But, if you go to Upton Park, you pay for Rob Green to keep goal and not make the sorts of errors he has been making over the last couple of seasons.
What's money got to do with it? It's about spirit, defending your corner and fighting when the chips are down.
ReplyDeleteYou show that spirit on here in defending what you believe and he's trying to do the same on the pitch in terms of proving his detractors wrong. Surely you can empathise with that?
Yes, he's been in poor form but as a paying fan I'd much rather him fight back than become a shrinking violet.
He's the only senior and PL experienced keeper that we have so our options are either play a rookie or support the best keeper that we have through a difficult time.
It's in times like these for Robert Green that our support can make the most difference.
Was it Marty, that was my guess, which was reinforced by your reply on here, or am I being thick, lol
ReplyDelete1824, who knows? They seek him here, they seek him there... ; }
ReplyDeleteLOL 1814 was that "defending your corner" an intentional pun? All I am saying is that it was an unwise thing for Green to do. I hope he doesn't make another mistake obviously, but if he does, the Press will murder him - and it will be his fault in every sense when they do. He should have applauded the fans, not gestured to the press box! All the press do is report. Green has made a series of errors and given ammunition to his critics. One good save featuring one great save did not merit that gesture. The rehabilitation is far from complete!
It was Pontitus Pilate who once said :"What has been said has been said,it is over,it is finished !".It may well have been for Jesus, but alas not for Robert Green. He is going to pay for his arrogance, the British Press NEVER forget and they certainly won't let Robert Green forget EITHER.Yes he made ONE brilliant save, one good save and two smart saves,in other words two comfortable saves, for any decent goalkeeper .In boxing terms Robert Green would be termed to having a glass jaw ,one punch away from disaster ,in goalkeeping terms one cross away from disaster !.For West Ham's sake i'd LOVE to be proved wrong but i somehow doubt it! .I have said over and over again that Robert Green hasn't lost form or 'confidence' ,he simply isn't a good goalkeeper!,petrified of crosses, the best he can offer is a flapped and misdirected punch ,often landing on his opponents head then in the back of the West Ham net,NO command of his penalty area, stands either too far to his left or right at free kicks. For TWO seasons he has been that poor that opposition players became that confident of scoring they'd often be prepared to have a shot from thirty yards ,knowing they had a good chance of scoring. In a nutshell does one seriously believe on the basis of ONE good performance ,that this gaffe ridden goalkeeper ,who has cost West Ham to drop point's continously for TWO season's has received goalkeeping 'deliverance' , been rehabilitated and a good goalkeeper?.Think again Rob Green for the rest of his career will always be ONE cross way from disaster. The rest of the team is exciting and has depth, but goalkeeping is our achilles heal.Bring on big Ruud !,We're more than a football club,we're a way of life !COYI!!
ReplyDeleteLOL mate. No wonder that ticker feels the strain! And I thought I was a Rob Green doubter!
ReplyDeleteJesus, Fareham's been sharing your meths, HF!
ReplyDeleteThat said, I totally agree with you that Rob was a silly boy to make that gesture on Saturday. A Moment of gain but perhaps a lifetime of pain. Ill judged in a euphoric moment. Let's hope the fine gentlemen of the media see it that way the next time he commits an error - as he surely will.
Brother Fanno !,time to return to the front benches at the Org !!.There's a lot to get through at the dispatch boxes !.Ooh here's one for you !,it says :should Pablo Barrera set the PL alight, and come christmas time West Ham are 6th in the league , the club get a cash offer of £10 million plus for Barrera would the club cash in on their 'investment' ?,surely as 'fans' they wouldn't ?...or would they ?.Would it be a case of a week or so before the actual 'bid' leaks would suddenly appear in the press about Pablo's head being turned, offering our 'Messaihs' a way out without losing face ?.Im not saying they WOULD but im watching things carefully...very carefully .We're more than a football club we're a way of life !COYI!!
ReplyDeleteLOL Because those nice guys in the press are renowned for their decency and forgiving spirit! You started with the word Jesus; and Rob will be crucified if he drops a clanger against Fulham - or if he drops a soup dragon for that matter!
ReplyDeleteFareham, engage with me on here mate. I'll post a thread if you contribute one. The Org has too many issues with Fanno.
ReplyDeleteI will indeed brother Fanno ,i will indeed !
ReplyDeleteFanno, I feel the need to inform you that for the last seven months of my time as unemployed, I was not in receipt of any benefit as what I was claiming (which AS A TAX PAYER was payed in for by my previous contributions) had expired last June. I think I did the right thing for me and my family in holding out for something half decent rather than taking any old shit just to appease people like you. You see, your beef should be with people who simply don't want to work or people who are out of work because they are just too lazy to hold a job down, not with people who fall out of work through no fault of their own as people like myself were merely just victims of the mis-actions of the greedy rich. Also during my time as unemployed, I did apply for some pretty low paid jobs, but got turned down on the grounds of being over qualified. You see because it's too much of an employer's market at the moment, it's actually the employers that are keeping people out of work due to their ridiculous criterios. This is the last time that I talk of this as that terrible period in my life is now far behind me. I thought I'd put straight your misconceptions. Btw, the I'm doing very well in my new job, thanks for enquiring.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it Flappers. Good luck into the future. Our difference is marginal on this issue. I would not allow ANYBODY to receive benefits whilst idle. It is unhealthy for society and for the individual. I would require all claimants to work a 40 hour week contributing to the Big Society. The disabled could be trained to take calls for the Samaritans, and the able bodied to give back to society in all sorts of ways: Cleaning out rivers and canals, litter picking, maintenance work in schools, collecting for charity organisations, etcetera. My objection to your situation was when you said that you would not accept a low paid job, preferring to claim benefits instead. I would not allow that and would require you to take the job regardless of what you wanted. That's not you personally, that's everybody.
ReplyDeleteI have explained before where I take issue with the idea that you were only claiming what you had paid in. You have no idea what you may claim from the state over your lifetime. If you require the NHS to save your life, or the lives of your family, there won't be an accountant (thankfully) saying, "Sorry, have to switch off your life support now because you haven't paid enough in tax to cover the continuing running costs." The services are there for you regardless. So, to say "I'm claiming back what I've paid in" is wrong. You were claiming when you didn't NEED to claim because you were CHOOSING to remain out of work. And you were not paying taxes that you could have been paying whilst claiming benefits that you didn't NEED to claim.
That was your CHOICE and, under current rules, you are allowed that choice. My issue is not that you made that choice - most would - but that this choice exists in the first place. There is a basic principle of "No taxing without representation"; the mirror of that is "No benefits without a contribution to society." People should be forced to work for their benefits - then people wouldn't be able to make the choice you made without giving back to society. If you choose not to work for the minimum wage in a crap job, then you choose to work for benefits by giving back to society. You're not allowed to sit in front of the TV all day whilst other people pay to feed, house and clothe you! And this "you" is not a personal "you", it is everybody. If I need benefits I should have to work 40 hours a week to qualify for them!
Enough! I genuinely mean, good luck for the future!
Bit odd that Big Mac has become the poster boy for the Olympic stadium bid. "Quit Upton Park, insists striker" I don't think he's earned the right to chime in. Wind ya neck in tubs!
ReplyDeletewell well well HF what did i tell you just before the tottenham game when you said on here that if west ham cant sell out against tottenham then how are we gonna fill a 60,000 stadium. well for your information the fulham game is now a sell out. just like i said if west ham start to pick up then the fans will start to come back. nothing to do with not having a big enough fan base are anything like that. the fact is if west ham start play well then will come to watch them and if they dont play well then people aint stupid enough to pay good money to watch a load of crap. i know its kids for a quid on saturday but that doesn't matter because if we move to the new olympic stadium then gold and sulivan have already said they will put the prices down anyway. ps if we can sell out 35,000 against fulham considering we have had one decent result so far against tottenham and we are currently 2nd from from bottom what salt of crowds called we get if we had a decent team and were in the top 6 of the premiership. i think getting 35,000 against fulham considering where we are in the league and how poor we have been proves we have got the fan base for a 60,000 thousand stadium. how many other clubs in the premiership could get 35,000 against fulham if they were second from bottom.
ReplyDeleteIt is a local derby!
