McCarthy Scores!

True it was only for the reserves - and even Freddie Sears makes the net bulge for the stiffs from time to time - but it is still good for a forward to find the net, at any level. McCarthy is clearly fourth in line at the moment, and may drop down to fifth when Hines is available, but I have a hunch that his goals will prove important at some point during the season.

Stanislas also found the net but, long term, the most significant thing may be the appearance as a sub of Hall. This boy has been playing with older kids for England and is meant to be a real prospect.

A 2-0 victory apparently does not reflect our level of superiority over Wigan reserves. I remember a time under Zola when we lost every time we took to the pitch - be it first team, reserves or in a "confidence building" friendly fixture. Well that seems to have been turned on its head. There is a new optimism pulsing through the club and, hopefully, winning is becoming a habit!

  1. Christ, that's a particularly upbeat post HF - you been at the meths?
A contrast with the parody you ran on fat boy McCarthy last night n'est pas?

  2. If you dont believe in Jesus Christ than how or what do you base your ethical and moral philosophy on?

  3. 0236, why do I need a guy to be nailed to a cross to understand right from wrong? If you are a Christian, are you a communist too? What did Jesus say about a rich man, heaven, camels and eyes of needles? Would you have turned the other cheek in 1939 and allowed Hitler to do as he please in Europe? Would you pay unfair taxes to an invading army led by a tyrant just for a quiet life?

Jesus was a man OF his time, not of all time. If he was the son of God, he would surely have had a more sophisticated understanding of economic modelling and, instead of just raising Lazarus, he would have taught medical skills to enable life saving. What a wasted opportunity Jesus represents. If the Son of God had really come to the Earth 2000 years ago, he could have brought some of the knowledge that we now have and spared generations from hidious want and suffering.

  4. Headmaster, I've been walking around with a smile wider that McCarthy's trouser belt!

  5. By the way Headmaster, why not give the Org a go?

  6. HF, Please keep your comments on football. I think you are totally out of your waters when you talk about religion or pretending to understand what Christ was about.

I am glad McCarthy is fit enough to play and indeed score. Who knows he may rediscover his form and help West Ham along.

  7. HF - Just over a week ago you posted an article stating that 'Green needs to be put out to grass'.

His performance at the weekend clearly justified his continued selection. He's been great for us in the past and has more than earned the right for us to give him the opportunity to rebuild his confidence in the first team.

Thankfully AG isn't as quick to turn on his players as you are.

  8. Sav, if you disagree, I am more than happy to have the debate. But this site does not censor opinion, be it on West Ham or Jesus.

I am most certainly not "out of my waters" given my recent study of representational art in Christianity and why Christianity spread in the 300 years immediately after the death of Jesus. In fact, I have a very detailed understanding of the topic, based on historical evidence and extensive research. I would gladly put that in the scales against blind faith in any debate.

Talking of "out of my waters", I have walked on water in Palestine. There is a lake just outside Nazareth where a ridge of rocks down the middle of the water gives the impression that you can stand and walk on water. I have a photograph of me, "walking on water" with bathers up to their chest in water either side of me. Miracles are easily explained mate, if you are open to explanantion. Manna can be found to this day in the desert that the Jews crossed. It is a desert plant that produces a dough like substance at dawn - nomads use it for nutrition and water. Nomads also strike limestone rocks, just as Moses did, and release water.

If you would like me to share some very well reserched analysis of the spread of Christianity - explaining why Mark invented the myth that the Jews called for the crucifixion of Christ, so ensuring the survival of the Christian sect 60 years after Christ's death, I'm happy to supply it.

  9. And isn't Parker playing well!!

  10. 1004, Green has had one good game. If he cocks up against Fulham, that gesture to the Press Box will come back to haunt him - with knobs on! It was a very, very unwise thing to do. As I will explain on tonight's thread!

  11. Yes Parker is, as I keep saying. Like I say, I'm happy to be proved wrong! It may still be presumptious to conclude the decision not to sell him was right. Let's watch and judge at the end of the season.

  12. HF - Green has had far more good games for WH than bad ones.

Why knock a man when he's clearly been down? He has saved us many points during his time with us and deserves our support during a dip in both form and confidence.

    That's why we're called 'supporters'.

  13. Erm, if he didn't have more good games than bad, he wouldn't play would he? The most important thing about a keeper is that he doesn't make mistakes and that his presence gives confidence to his defence. I don't think that's been true of Green for more than 12 months now. One good game is not enough.

  14. Loving your synopsis of the life & times of Jesus, got any more, fascinating stuff, ever thought about starting another blog based around anything & everything interesting.
I took the camel/rich man text in the bible to mean you couldn't take your money with you, not that it was a sin to have money whilst your here

  15. Is that how you took it 1824? Then why didn't he say that? Tell you what, justify your interpretation in the light of the following:

The saying was a response to a young rich man who had asked Jesus what he needed to do in order to inherit eternal life. Jesus replied that he should keep the commandments, to which the man stated he had done. Jesus responded, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." The young man became sad and was unwilling to do this. Jesus then spoke this response, leaving his disciples astonished.

According to George Lamsa[3], a proponent of Aramaic primacy, this phrase relies on an early mistranslation of the Scriptures from Aramaic into Greek. In Aramaic the words for "camel" and "rope" are spelled the same (גמלא, Syriac ܓܡܠܐ, gamlâ) and thus it appears in the Peshitta. The phrase should then read "it is easier for a rope to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God".

Tell me, why did Jesus tell a young man to sell his possessions and give his money to the poor if he wasn't expousing a form of Socialism / Communism. If he said this to an old man on his death bed, your interpretation may be valid. But he didn't! Learn your Bible mate!

  16. O.k, fair point, but. . .
A rope can pass through the eye of a needle, no???
O.k, it may take a while, but it is possible for a rope to do this, so with this in mind he isn't telling him it would be impossible to gain admittance to heaven, merely, it would be harder to. . .
Am I clutching at straws here, or is it a case of, 'give a man enough rope' & all that, lol

  17. I believe the sin is in hoarding money/possesions rather than sharing it to help those in need.

    In a word, Communism.

  18. Hello Pete! Ok, for you, I give in mate! Your faith is too strong to shake. After all, you're the man who said LBM would have a stand named after him!

  19. LOL,
We shall be having a beer in the Boa Morte upper one day, you mark my words!!!
Who'd have thought he'd have been granted another contract (nothing to do with him playing like a man possessed & scoring on the last day or the season) it was foretold. . . ;)

  20. LOL True! Never mind waiting for the Boa stand to open, I'd enjoy a beer with you before that! Drop me an email mate, I've lost your phone number! scott.tracey38@yahoo.co.uk

  21. I am not a religious person myself HF but I believe in God and the message of Christ. I have no doubt, although I did not expect it, that you have actually studied the subject in depth but peripherally. And I am sure you have done a decent job of that, logically, arguing your case.

Incidentally, I never asked you to censor anything. My comment was that in my humble opinion this is not how you should try to understand God. It doesn't really matter whether Christ has walked on water or whether he was resurrected or not. His message is what really matters. God exists within his message.

I don't think that it is really possible to explain God by analysing what the Church has done (most of it negative if you ask me) or through the physics of time and space. God is beyond anything that we can understand and yes, I believe he is inside every single one of us (irrespective of what we believe him to be).

My reference, about you being "out of your waters" was with regard to the way you go about to understand and explain God rather whether you have studied the history of religion which you obviously have done. Anyway, Christ said that you have to feel not think your way to God.

But I apologise if my comment about you being out of your waters was harsh. I fully respect every man's right to have an opinion.

Back to football however, what are your views about our next game against Fulham. Will we continue to improve and get three points? What about the fact that Fulham is still unbeaten? If we play with the same passion as last week I am sure we can beat them.

  22. Sav,
I invite you to Islam. Not only do you get to keep Jesus, Abraham, Moses and the rest, but you get Muhammad free! You won't get a better deal than that!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thanks for the offer Stani but I really could do with less rather than more religion. I believe that one does not need a passport from any Church to access God. And there is only one God despite how many religions humans made up to worship him. I wouldn't be a good Muslim as I don't consider myself to be a good Christian either. But unlike, HF, I do believe in God; I just don't believe in religion.
